I think it is a stretch to call EiS a Frozen fanfic, and the author apparently agrees based on where it was published.

 

Not in a story, but rather, in reviews: summarizing the chapter without any critical input.

Hey, I appreciate every review, but if you're going to take the time to review something, at least put some critical thought into it as well.

 

The biggest one for me is going to gringrotts and a magical inheritance test somehow tells you that harry's a gazillionare and has controlling interest in every company ever mentioned in HP and is the head of 15 houses 3 of which are the founders houses oh and he has access to 7 different kinds of magic that hasn't been seen in centuries.

 

A small thought went into my head: immediately after the test, he goes on an uber-spending spree and goes bankrupt within a week.

If nothing else, it would be a more accurate representation of what happens when you suddenly win a veritable lottery.

But in all seriousness, that one is just dumb. Was absolutely no Potter even remotely interested in taking such a test just to see what it says.

Just call them fucking eyes! who the hell says orbs?!?

 

Magic Cores are starting to make me want to murder things.

 

Harry saying something along the line of "dark magic isn't bad. I could kill someone with a severing charm too right?"

Occlumency shields, magical cores, Harry completely mastering magic during the summer or before Hogwarts and being unstoppable.

The "I just met you on a train, but let me tell you about how I was abused and hated by my family".

Unnecessary bashing. Dumbledore's "my boy" followed by "call me Mr. Potter" from Harry. Goblins appreciating Harry treating them like equals. Bad, stiff, "adult-like" dialogs from 11-year-olds.

 

Any stories starting before fifth year, fourth year allowed if there's excellent, imaginative alternative tasks for the tournament. Although I can't remember ever seeing one of those.

I just don't want to read about pre-teen kids. Either they are way out of character for their age -- or they are in character, which is possibly even worse.

 

Really? No BWL by the Santi? No On The Way To Greatness? You're missing out man.

 

Anything slash is pretty awful. I once read a story in which Dumbledore decides it's necessary for Harry to learn the Dark Arts in order to defeat Voldemort. For about 10 chapters it sort of just bullshits around (including a very disturbing scene in which Ron and Harry suck each other off). Finally I just skipped to the end lo and behold, Snape and Harry are in bed together.

So that's how I learned what slash was and it was pretty disturbing.

I also dislike stories where Draco and Hermione end up together. Because even when Draco stops being a bigoted prick, there's still no way in hell the two would end up marrying each other.

 

While I don't read slash as a rule since I'm not really into that. There are some slash fics that are relatively decent. It's not because of the slash though it's because of the main story. I'm pretty sure a post like this also ended up in the hall of shame so I'd watch myself my friend.

 

Did not mean to step on anyone's toes. I will rephrase in saying that slash is definitely not my preferred choice but perhaps there are decent stories in that genre. The first one I came across just wasn't very good.

 

Never found a story I particularly enjoy with slash in it, though I'm sure there are some that are well-written.

The biggest pet peeve I've found is someone (pretty much always Harry) becoming too powerful too quickly. Even an eleven year old Harry can become stronger than Dumbledore with just the slightest bit of motivation, as if no wizard child has ever thought of studying hard and practicing spells before.

 

I've never found one I enjoyed because I haven't looked. Why would I intentionally look for stories in a category I really don't like? What gets me is surprise slash, no tags, no warnings, nothing. Admittedly I know the signs a bit better these days so can usually feel it coming.

 

A main reason I'm not a fan of slash isn't so much the sexuality but there's a lot of people of out of character. Canon or non canon, as long as the writing is good and the characters are more or less the same I'll read it. But on a preference level I just find slash disconcerting

 

When Harry finds Slytherins Super Secret Chamber and finds 1000 year old Books that are not handwritten... what. Also when he can read them without even a measly translation charm. Shit I can barely understand original Shakespeare, and he understands a 1000 year old language, which sometimes written in PARCELtongue.

 

I can barely understand my own handwriting most of the time. I even started writing in pseudo-print-like letters so I can read it later.

Then again, I have confirmed dysgraphia, so...

 

I twitch a little bit whenever I read 'magical core' or 'so mote it be'. Or some playground nickname like 'Moldy Shorts' or 'Bumblebore' (seriously?!).
