You don't need to be a scholar of Latin to be told what words to say to blow shit up.

Very likely, but I didn't actually have it in me to brave these stories. The summaries were filled with red flags. There was a non-trivial number of stories involving Hermione and werewolves, which I wager have something to do with the Beauty and the Beast movie.

On that subject, it's not that I particularly care for Hermione but the movies and fanfiction subreddit (where every other member has a raging hard-on for anything Starfox, urgh) have put me off entirely. To the point that, like Sesc, I'm giddy whenever I see a story where Hermione gets clubbed by troll in the bathroom.

Aha, I hadn't thought of that, though I did search by favourites after. As it stands, it's hard to find a decent story that hasn't already been mentioned here. The only one I can think of is Books of Change's A Study in Pink, and for all that's good about it, I suspect it's more appropriate for the Almost Recommended section.

As for Ignis Maledictus, I actually thought it sounded cool. Malediction is a cool word. It has a nice ring to it, like sacrilege. I suppose most French-ish words do, to some extent. Having said that, I am also partial to the spell being wordless by nature, requiring strong emotions to cast. Or something along the lines of that.

    "It's leviosa, not leviosa!"

Indeed, mispronouncing the incantation could have disastrous consequences. And in the case of Goyle, if memory serves me right, the results were most disastrous. Considering how hard it is to cast the spell, I imagine the outcome was merely a botched attempt, albeit an effective one. (lol)

And I judge you for it.

My personal headcanon is that losing control of a Fiendfyre is the botch since it's likely to end up killing you and everything around it.

Bella being magicked into following Voldemort.

I nearly all ways comes off to me as the author being uncomfortable writing a dangerous, evil and brutal female character. "Oh no, Bella didn't mean to torture the Longbottoms into insanity, it was all her husbands fault because he did [xxxx] to her. She was such a sweet girl before she married him"

    Makes me want to puke.

That's because the authors can't come up with a good way to have a good Harry end up with Bellatrix. How about a fic with Bellatrix using magic to turn Harry into her lover via imperius or potion.

On the Lestrange Train: I don't like how, on the other end of the stick, Rodolphus is afraid of her and everyone feels sorry for him like she's the only one who Voldemort trusted. Another pet peeve of mine is that people assume Bellatrix was in love with Voldemort; by that logic, so were the other death eaters who Voldemort broke out. When I read the books I assumed it was that Voldemort appealed to angry teenagers and homicidal maniacs alike. In the Lestranges' case, I thought it was both.

Like everyone else said, its an easy way to turn an emaciated zombie of a woman into something approaching attractive. Its the case of everyone's been shipped with Harry at some point, why not the least attractive person descriptively. They're a blank slate, and can be turned into anything.

    Bad fanon:
Her Husband and Brother in law abuse.
Her family selling her to slavery/marriage contract.
    Anti Dumbledore ideology.
Her family pushing her into Riddle hands, lets brand our family members as someone else vassals is totally aligned with the family goals. (Note: Walburga is just crazy bitch, ideology zealot )

Bellatrix always seemed to me a very talented teenager with serious emotional issues who never got treated properly.
Dumbledore, her family, and society in general only made it worse.
    Riddle just capitalized on that.

Rorschach's Blot has Severus/Bella couples, where Serverus developed for her psychiatric drugs (customized calming drought, with Lily's father guidance) in one of his odd ideas fics.

Edit: almost no one tries this line of logic, when it comes to Bella and the Longbottom
Rorschach's Blot again, scroll down to the last few lines, there is a small Omake there.

That and she suffers from the same problem as Snape. She may be described as a wasted wretch in the books but in the movies they had her played by freaking Helena Bonham Carter. So people imagine her like this:

Even that second one isn't that bad. I imagined her even more hag-like, sunken cheeks, hair a bit patchy. That one is just a somewhat tired middle-aged woman.

That was literally the closest picture I could find and the only one that showed her as remotely hagged or marred by 10 years in Azkaban. All the others were either hot young Bella or movie Bella. Which kind of proves my point.

HelenaBonham Carter. I don't think she's attractive. She's got a weird bobble head.

Yeah well I never saw Alan Rickman as Snape as particularly attractive but judging by fanfiction.net I was in the minority.

I don't have time to go find quotes but Snape is described as a thin man with sallow skin, a large, hooked nose, and yellow, uneven teeth and thin lips. He had lank shoulder-length, greasy black hair which hangs 'like curtains' around his face, and cold, black eyes.

I'm not sure what part of that is supposed to be flattering.

The only interesting thing is that he is supposed to be in his early 30s, Rickman was 20 years older than that.

With Alan Rickman, it's all about Voice, not appearance. He could probably read MLP fanfics and still captivate an audience.

Watch a bit of this interview and notice how the woman interviewing him seems to scream with her eyes "Please let me have yout babies".

It may have been a while since i last read the books , i don't remember anything about his teeth

I remember that his skin was pale , that he had a hooked nose and greasy hair , which while bad isn't nearly as ugly as Bella was described

    edit : cause i'm a dumbo

Bellatrix's outward appearance at her trial.

I would guess from the quotes that she was beautiful prior to going to Azkaban. Malnorishment and neglect are probably the cause of her appearance at the time of the break out when she was 45. To be honest you could probably equate her looks to a model who suffered from an eating disorder. I would imagine the ability to bathe and eat properly would rapidly improve her appearance, it did for Sirius. Continual depression tends to affect the apatite (presuming they were properly fed.) Logically Bella should have gained some healthy weight once she left. Her looks are not mentioned again but Harry did mistake Andromada for her at one point.

    For example :

This is Rachael Farrokh who suffered from anorexia and I am sure you agree fits the description of 'hollowed' and 'skull-like,' with 'heavy lidded eyes.' Her appearance basically fits post-Azkaban Bella to a tee. She suffered from anorexia for about 15 years, an illness that tends be incredibly rough on your body, so even the timing is comparable. The second picture is her 5 months later after getting specialist treatment and starting to conquer her condition. You pretty much could not tell that she had ever looked like that.

By comparison Snape was always an ugly bastard.

It is truly amazing how far I will go to avoid starting on my uni work. Not sure why I am arguing that it is canon complaint that Bella is probably still pretty hot.

You're doing extremely important work for the 18+ side of fanfiction.
