I've recently gained a pet peeve: writers not using paragraphs or more accurately, not using them correctly. It mostly stems from fics written in forums rather than posted directly to AO3 or fanfiction.net. I'm not talking about giant walls of text, although those suck too, but every line of the story being it's own paragraph. It makes for an incredibly disjointed read with all this whitespace between every sentence and is starting to be like leaving out the comma inside the quotation marks for speech - an instant "nope, can't read that" from me.

 

The one line paragraphs are bad, but nothing can be as annoying as those 3k word paragraphs.

Really, extra long paragraphs make shitfics (that aren't even that exciting in the first place) seem like a struggle to read.

 

The 3k word paragraphs are definitely in the "I'm not even going to try and read that" basket.

On the subject of paragraphs, I've recently taken to writing using the traditional indentation approach rather than the line break approach:



It has definitely resulted in my writing paragraphs which are longer than I did when separating them with line breaks.

 

I think having a female Harry is just an excuse not to do slash.

 

The number of female Harry femslash fics would rather go against that view.

 

Or people like female protagonists that are similar to Harry. There are plenty of femslash and gen femHarry fics out there. Not that there's anything wrong with not wanting to write slash.

Keeping the hoi polloi out of the fandom* is one of my greatest wishes. Props on Taure taking a genuine step in this direction. 1066/10 for aristocratic formatting.

* they had their chance. 15 years of songfics, contact lens GOTCHAs, and changing the time period of HP solely to add band references have proven they deserve no quarter.

I found it. The most tag abusive fic i have ever seen. D :

 

They may as well have named their fic "A thousand and one tags of fire and ice"

 

At least its long. Most offensive is when the tags are longer than the fic.

 

You just know its gonna be good already when the very first tag is "Other relationship tags to be added". Which begs the question, does the author even know which ones he is missing? and what is the highest number of relationships possible in got?
