    I had this idea:

The Unspeakables are oddball researchers who do not concern themselves with the outside world. However they also act as spies within other nations and organisation who research magics and whatnot. But they are horrible at it so basically nothing gets done. Enter stage left Hermione, who sel professed bookworm wants to prove to everybody that she is best of the best so she apllies to the unspeakables and gets accepted being smart and bookworm. There she is confronted with the usual wizard idiocracy of having awesome things and using them in an idiotic way.(this is a few years after the battle of hogwarts, assume cannon-ish) Here she meets up Luna who is also became an unspeakable to be able to search for her creatures. So Luna spends her days cheerfully annoying Hermione while Hermione suffers the idiocy. One day however she has a brilliant idea: why not use someone for spying who is not bookworm and has actual real word skills? So she naturally ask Harry for help. Harry being bored with his 'normal' life agress after Luna points out how much fun they could have annoying Hermione. As for Harry he spent his days after the battle getting his life in order, negotiating with the goblins and whatnot. He wasn't rich , he really only had the small trust fund, and the investment he made with the twins, however with his luck he made some really good inveestments, so he was comfortably set in his life to fool around a bit before settling down. He may have also got al ittle better at magic.

So Hermione assumes the role of M and Q with the usual oddball in the departmen butting in with useless suggestions, Luna annoying her with Harry feeding her information about Hermiones buttons to push.

After that and episodic adventure of Harry spying on things and people.
    For first adventure:

After some unnamed event Britain and New Zealand became exstranged so any brittish magical offical in any capacity is not alllowed to step foot on New Zealand, however they heard that they were experimentind on sheeps, trying to mix them with dragons, to produce a wool with the strenght of dragonhide. This wouldn't be a big problem, however some of the backers are somewhat questonable so Hermione tasks Harry to find out what is happening over there. As he doesn't work at the Ministry, he assumes the identity as an upcoming investor who is interested in the project. After that thanks to HArrys usual luck hijinks ensue.

    :awesome

I had a plot bunny with a theme sort of like this in it. Basically the Potters were loving parents to both their children but the danger around Twin #2 being the BWL meant that they were more overtly loving towards - if both twins were hurt they ran to him first, they were more likely to say yes to him etc.

I think I was trying to, I don't know, subvert the idea, maybe? Basically I was trying to build a realistic reason why Harry would resent his parents and twin. I think I based the premise on a novel I read about a child who comes to resent their parents and younger sibling because the sibling was sick and the parents focused all of there attention on him/her.

And this all sounds really bad written out like that and makes me glad I didn't post it.

I think I should go to bed before I make any more posts like this. I really shouldn't have access to phones or the internet after 30+hrs without sleep.

So they're the wizarding version of the SCP Foundation?

That would actually be kinda awesome.

It's not an improbable situation, that parents might come to love one child over the other, but with twins it's almost an impossibility, and I feel the need to point it out that when parents choose one child over the other it tends to happen when the children are older. Granted, it's not like that in all cases, but still...

Actually, I now remember one somewhat plausible fic that does something like this... "Henry Black and the Memory of Death". At first, it seems like one of those cliched stories, but the more it went on, the more interesting it became. It hasn't been updated since September though.

"Flawless." When the word flawless is used and overused, it will pull me out of a story as quickly as an author's note mid-paragraph. If you are going to say that something is flawless, have it be Dumbledore's transfiguration, not 11-year-old time traveling Harry's Gobbledygook.

In life as well as fanfiction, the following cliché:

    "I'm sorry! I didn't think that --"

    "That's right! You didn't think!"

It's just so retarded. Obviously the word "think" has two different meanings, 1. believe, 2. put thought into. Saying "I didn't think that X" means "I didn't believe that X", not "I didn't put thought into X".

I just cannot stand any instance of a person thinking themselves clever for making this equivocation.

I think I encountered maybe two at the most fanfics where the Goblin language is simply impossible for a human to learn due to lacking some significant anatomy parts. Trying to do so apparently might land you in a hospital due to internal bleeding.

My personal favourite is that Gobbledygook is not a language. The Goblins don't have a language. They just like to fuck with humans and thus make up a fake language whenever they want to have a laugh.

Then they added a clausule in the Gringotts charter giving them the right to take a 5 Galleon fine from everyone who used their 'language' incorrectly.

I'm now reminded of "Alabaster & Vermillion":

But anyway, it's not like there's that many AU fics where Riddle is a woman.

Strange. I always kinda thought that even fem!Riddle would keep her appearance. Do you know any female that doesn't want to be beautiful? I don't. I am not saying that there isn't a female somewhere in the world that doesn't think like that, but I find a possibility that she would alter her appearance like Voldemort extremely unlikely.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I don't mean to offend any female. I also didn't mean it in terms of sexism. I just wanted to point out that females generally care about they appearance more than males, so fem!Riddle is less likely to consciously alter her appearance than Voldemort.

I don't think the appearance alteration was ever intentional on Voldemort's part, but merely a side effect of the, rather dark, resurrection ritual.

I know several girls that couldn't care less about their looks. It's not all that rare.

But how can they shack up with the main character if they don't have a perfect hourglass figure and all that?

Quite easily. Different strokes for different folks. lol It's a lie perpetuated by the media. Or how my friend put it "People like to see what their culture considers 'beautiful' on screen, even if it's a lie."

    Fan art peeve.

We learn that Ginny has brown eyes, before we're even fifty pages through Chamber of Secrets. But, for some reason, there's been a steady stream of green and blue-eyed Ginny fan art ever since.

    Are they just that dense?

Other characters suffer similar problems (brown-eyed Ron, blue-eyed Hermione), but it seems more prevalent with Ginny. Ugh.
