Non-hogwarts is pretty boring, but since he's living with Sirius and is aware of the magical world I think I'll give it a go.

I'm skimming the sequel. Harry might have been raised by Sirius and aware of the magical world, but it's not looking like much of advantage for him other than having a less shitty childhood.

    On the other hand

It's still first year, and Sirius just dropped the prophecy on Harry because there's already been to attempts two kill the poor kid.

Innocent is actually pretty good, it has some action (not really Harry-centric, obviously) as well. Haven't started the sequel yet though.

What house does Harry end up when he actually goes to Hogwarts in the sequel to "Innocent"?

...also its curse, jinx, hex, and transfiguration.

    Discriminant/Discriminate

    Discriminant:
(Adjective) This describes someone or something as being discriminant.

    Discriminate:
(Verb) This is the act of discriminating.

By the same token, we have something that probably pops up even more often...

    Dominant/Dominate

Dominant: (Adjective) This describes someone or something as being dominant.

    Dominate:
(Verb) This is the act of dominating.

If you awe someone into agreeing with you or backing down due to your tremendous charisma or forceful presence, you dominate them. You have a tendency to do this because you have a dominant personality.

If one gene overrides another, it is a dominant gene. If you thought it should be the grossly incorrect "dominate gene", then your genes should probably not be passed on to future generations.

How can people not know the fucking difference between a verb and an adjective? You don't even need to know that those are the terms used, you just need to know one is an action and one is a description! It's maddening!

    Runaway/Run away
Well, what do we have here? On one side we have noun or adjective, and on the other we have a phrase consisting of a verb and a preposition. A runaway is someone or something who has run away. Also, runaway can be an adjective describing something as being very successful (a runaway hit) or something that has gone out of control (a runaway train).

Muddying the waters just a bit, you could describe a runaway as being runaway. In other words, a child who has left home without permission is a runaway child (runaway=adjective, child=noun) or a child runaway (child=adjectival noun, runaway=noun) or just a runaway (runaway=noun).

If I were confronted by a dragon, I would probably run away: Run is an action and away is the direction I'm running... which should be pretty fucking obvious.

"Runaway/run away" goes in the same category as my annoyance with "everyday/every day" and "sometime/some time" and the list goes on.

And, "Runway Runaway" was a level in Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now.

You forgot one... It's also a proper noun (or at least, part of one).

You know what I hate. When someone writes out the lyrics of a song in a fic. I can't stand that, I always scroll past it. What a waste of word count.

I have the same with people who paste the whole sorting songs.
(I do admire the people who come up with their own sorting hat songs)

Yeah I have to admit that 99/100 I skip the sorting hat song. Even in great stories. Not sure what it is to be honest, perhaps the formatting.

The Lie I've Lived was the only fic where I didn't skip the Sorting Hats song to be honest. It annoys me most of the time though I don't know why.

I think that's because the sorting hat is amazing in that fic. Why WOULDN'T you read anything it says.

Agree that in every other case it's annoying and I really don't know why either though.

Or on a side note to the sorting peeve, the hat is not a seer, it does not include hints about the future and plot of the story in its song.
