I'd say no, mainly because Crucio is the actually word spoken for the curse, and like I said before, it almost comes across as a command. Cruciatus is only the name, so I doubt it'd have the same subliminal connection. Much like the way, at least in my everyday language, I've said allowed "Thief" to become a verb. "He thiefed it!" But I'd never say, "He thieveried it."

Of course, when talking about the way language develops, pretty much anything is possible given a long enough time and the proper pressures.

I prefer to believe that never happened.

On another topic, I'm so over Harry "visiting the other side" in any situation. Most commonly he gets hit with a Killing Curse then gets to spend time with his parents and/or Sirius. They then explain how "the curse only killed the Horcrux!" bla bla bla. Of course, there are other times he "visits the other side" unrelated to the Horcrux and/or Killing Curse.

    Stop it. It sucks.

I'm ok with people saying 'AK' or 'crucioed' in dialogue because humans are lazy and people will refer to the curses like that. But the writer describing and naming things should not, they should call things by their proper names.

While it was one of the funniest scenes in the series it really annoyed me that it was through 'mothers love' or shear willpower or something that Molly beat Bellatrix.
Regardless, most of us know the last few books sucked and don't make sense in some areas.

A while ago I mentioned how I hate the movie versions of wizard clothing, this is still true.

I mean, goddammit why did the filmmakers have to turn everyone into muggles with wands?

I'm starting to think that the movies did not introduce anything good and in fact ruined the fandom and brought only negatives...

    Agree.

I said a few pages back that I thought the movies were only good from a comedic view point and not so much for portraying the HP story.

I suspect it contributed greatly to any pairing that involves Malfoy or Snape

Well yeah, since women love Alan Rickman, not Snape. Snape's character is also misrepresented a bit in the films.

The first two films were alright, decent atmosphere, even if they didn't deliver on everything possible, but then again in adaptations not everything gets in. That said, I still hate them for cutting out Peeves.

I keep wondering to this day what they might have been like if Del Toro was in charge of all of them. I know he got offered Prisoner of Azkaban and Half-Blood Prince but was busy at the time working on his own projects.

I remember reading how they tried to put Lucius Malfoy in a muggle business suit, but the actor that played the part rejected the idea, saying it goes completely against the character who is a huge bigot.

Also, we might have avoided this:

I actually thought the first two were pretty good. They stuck to the story line pretty damn closely and the outfits were more in theme. I understand that sticking to the story would have been harder as the movies went on since the books got much longer, but still, feel like four and onwards just skips through scenes in 5 minute intervals. The pacing is just...way too fast. Three was ok, I didn't hate that film.

I prefer to think it was one of the best scenes of the last two books. Though I always had to laugh at Twilight getting ripped for anti-women's liberation themes, but JKR writes a scene where she has no problem with any of her sons fighting, but comes to the defense of her daughter and two female friends, and then proceeds to kill one of the strongest fighters out there through what should be (or could be, at the least) mother's instinct.

Nonetheless, it IS canon, which leads to another pet peeve of mine that I'm sure has been mentioned here numerous times: Evil!Molly, or "Let's slip Harry a love potion, Ginny, here's how to do it!" Molly.

I can definitely buy her pushing Ginny at Harry, nothing severe or too manipulative just "Harry's around all the time he's such a keeper maybe you should go out with him hehe" (I hate that I wrote that). But actually evil? That's very out of character.

...Then again it is usually paired with hating on Ginny which I can get down with.

I like Ginny but think JKR handled it really poorly. It was as if she had planned for Harry to be with her from the start but completely forgot about it until book 5, realised that Harry can't find 'true love' the first time so she paired him with Cho for that book and then by the time they got around to it in Book 6 it was far too late and very rushed.

People seem to forget that Ginny grew up and long passed her fangirlism by the fifth book.

On the other hand I don't like Ron and Molly that much (odd, isn't it?).

I remember reading about it in a long dead thread on here where several people discussed Ron on being a bit of a fair weather friend really hit hard on me (as it did one a couple other people). I have a person I considered to be a very good friend lie and manipulate me somewhat. She thought what she was doing was for the best but it pretty much destroyed any trust between us and a very good friendship ended up collapsing. Basically seeing Ron abandon Harry over pettiness (as opposed to thinking they were helping me) to me feels pretty unforgivable.

Molly... well I feel she's very overbearing. My parents showed me love and affection but they pretty much left me and my little brother to our own devices. Having someone so controlling just irks me. It doesn't help she so foolishly believed the Prophet either about Hermione.

I wouldn't say I hate them per-say but when I write I do have people call out Ron and to some degree call out Molly.

Agree with what you said about Ginny. She didn't HAVE to be a bad character, but it was handled so awfully that it left a horrible taste in my mouth I'll never get out. That and I was rooting for H/HR in canon.

Ron is...lovable but frustrating. There's good reasons to dislike him, but there's good reasons not to as well. In canon I don't mind him MOST of the time (I think JKR did intend for us to be annoyed with Ron at least at times). In fanon it really can go either way with how he can be written.

I agree Molly is overbearing, WAY too overbearing. I personally hate that and if I was her kid I'd probably leave and never look back. Absolutely agree with what you say about someone being controlling. I really hate it when that controlling attitude she has towards her children bleeds onto others though. Perhaps fanon has influenced me but when she tries to tell Harry what he can and can't do (unless he's living under her roof that's fair game, as long as it's related to stuff happening under that roof) I get unbelievably angry. Pretty much the same when she tries to do it to her adult children.

Wow I'd forgotten that she bought the Daily Prophet stories, kind of suggests she's weak minded to me (she has no excuse since she KNOWS Harry and Hermione). Which isn't surprising.

Anyway, some people can be forgiving and tolerate Ron running off twice. I however can't.
Nearly always in writing the reader and the author puts themselves in the head of the main character and when I read Harry being so forgiving it's just jarring to me as someone who's not that forgiving.

I just don't see it really. Ron being such a fair weather friend. Sure, if he was someone from the sides, like Finnigan or Thomas, then yeah I could see it as plausible him not believing Harry about the Tri Wizard Tournament. The latter incident, with the Horcrux's influence, is believable though.

It really just seemed to me that JKR wanted to infuse the trio's relationship with some drama every now and again and whenever she needed that, she'd turn to Ron and have him doing something stupid.

Oh I know Hermione was only shown to be average or a bit better in combat. When I say she could be terrifying I am referring to her intellect, ability to manipulate people, and her vicious streak. It irks me as well to see her written as some sort of master duelist or DE type evil precisely because that just doesn't fit with her character. She's the type who, if she did do some twisted evil shit, she would be convinced that it is for everyone's own good or just a means to an end. And if it could be traced back to her, or her closest friends knew about it, she'd either get them on board with her reasoning or just wipe their memory for simplicity's sake.

Straight Voldemort or Umbridge type evil can be interesting to read about sometimes, but not if they're trying to write an evil Hermione. I think it's the same reason why it is so rare to find a good bastard!Dumbledore fic (I know most of you hate that on principle, but I love a good evil Dumbledore AU).

Movie pollution in general bothers me in fics. I agree that the first two were fairly accurate to the books and how I pictured most of the characters, sets and costumes, but it just went totally off the rails around PoA.

The problem for me isn't the fact that Harry forgives Ron. That's fine and pretty square with his characterization.

What annoys me is that Harry still seems to regard Ron as reliable and trustworthy. And that's just stupid. Because Ron is NOT reliable. I've no doubt that on a normal day Ron is probably great company for Harry. The problem is that when the shit hits the fan and you need your friends to back you up against whatever may come your way Ron is not always there.

Forgiveness is fine. Just straight up forgetting about it and pretending that he isn't tetchy and undependable is not.

When the shit hits the fan?

Ron has been there for Harry, big-fucking-time. Anyone who gets between Sirius "The-right-hand-of-Voldemort" and his target has earned some forgiveness.

Sometimes I hate how Ron's character is so normal. At times, he's the only one I found believable.

Ron is normal, yes. And believable. Unfortunately he's also not the kind of person I'd normally be interested in having as a friend. He's one of those people who seems to be able to generate drama and angst just by existing. Harry doesn't need any help generating drama and angst, he's pretty much got that sewed up.

Also, Ron is brave and loyal, I'll give him that. I'm never going to be one of the 'I hate Ron Weasley, he's stupid, a coward and EEEVIL' camp. That said he is also fickle. And that is a trait I hate in people.

Of course EVERYONE in the HP-verse seems to be unbelievably fickle, so perhaps I should cut Ron some slack. It only seems worse in him because he's so visible.
