I think you're cherry picking there, I've read many a fic where she's not bad, but not amazing, at magic.

 

I myself prefer when Harry has a simple, regular girl as a partner, like for example Parvati Patil or Lavender Brown.

Yea, both Ginny and Daphne suffer from simply never - in Daphne's case - or rarely - in Ginny's case - being present in the story to develop the character.
Honestly, Ginny could have been developed very nicely if we saw a progression from the fangirl she was in second year to someone hardened and determined to never be a victim again because of the Chamber incident. Instead we have her basically disappear for a few years and then suddenly appear as a love interest.
Lame, it was like the Chamber of Secrets didn't hurt her at all.

 

Yeah you're probably right about that. Simple/regular/uninteresting is just boring, it's a fact in real life, but why put it in fiction. Not at all of course, you have to have regular people to make others irregular. I mean your major ones.

 

I think that it just seems so unlikely that he'd ever be with either one of them when it comes to long-term. Especially Lavender Brown. That would necessitate a complete rewrite of the character.

That said, I'm partial to odd pairings myself, even when they make no fucking sense. Like, Romilda Vane. "Whatever Happened to Bromance" really made it possible for me.

To be honest everything about that is pretty meh to me. Isn't she like 14 too? Ewwww.

 

Are you saying to me, are you >implying that if you were Harry and a hot ~16yo came up to you and clearly wanted the D you'd say "Nah, freckles, I'll pass".

 

Well, if we're talking in real life, I don't go for ANY 16yos. But yeah, even as a teenager I was pretty picky, so if I were Harry I probably would turn it down yeah. Also that's the thing, you say 'hot', but hot is relative.

EDIT: I can't really put in to words what I mean, it's pretty much impossible to tell someone else WHY you find something attractive or not. You just do.

 

While I have a wide variety of guilty pleasures, that at one point reach into self-flagellation tiers, Harry/Romilda ain't one of them.

Read "Whatever Happened to Bromance" if you haven't already. I'd also suggest "Skipping Stones" and "Hallowed Spirits" as well, but keep in mind these are abandoned fics.

 

I shall give "Whatever Happened to Bromance" a shot next time I read. Maybe it will open a new world for me. The horror.

EDIT: Oh, only 10k words. I might scan it then, but tbh I don't ever read anything under 100k, prefer over 150, really prefer over 200. Restricts my reading a LOT since you also have to filter out the garbage...

EDIT: This is probably one of the reasons I like the idea of Harry/Fleur, she's not in her 20s, but she's older than the rest (except Tonks, who can be good too).

EDIT: Ohhhh, it's a smut fic, that makes more sense. Well, they can be good, but not usually for their story LOL.

Here's something: Hermione being the source of all knowledge in a fic, where Harry does next to nothing and is content with being dependent on her. I detest it.

Yep, hate this one. She's smart, she's really smart, but she's no Tom Riddle, she's no Dumbledore. It also tends to try and make a know it all Hermione likeable by way of completely ignoring the fact she is so. And yeah, it means Harry is effectively a useless figure head (that's good at fighting!).

Honestly that's more what I'd class a Hermione/Harry fic, rather than a Harry/Hermione fic. Because his only purpose is to be her side kick. Which I hate, because I read HP FF to read about an interesting/awesome Harry.

 

On topic of Hermione - making her extremely beautiful just because because somebody writes Hermione/somebody pairing. Because obviously only beauty pageants deserve any kind of happiness and love.
