@Reptile3607: I wanted to quote but it's coming up blank, I blame the ô.
Please tell me you made that part about Griphook bursting into tears up. Surely no one actually wrote that.

Yeah ok that's a fair point, I guess you could go either way depending on how you want to write the character.

Because Ron in canon does tonnes of things that some people feel are irredeemable or would require Ron to do a shitload of things to make up for? I personally don't like canon Ron at all and I don't like how Harry just ignores his massive flaws and never calls him out.

I will say the horribly transparent bashing is tedious, but I have no problem with having Ron act in character and get put down for it. It shouldn't be the centre of the fucking plot though.

I think I said this several 10s of pages back. But there are good reasons to dislike him, but his 'betrayal' in the 4th and 7th book are not among them.

And we arrive at one of my pet peeves. Every Slytherin story seems to have this, and I am really tired about it.

And people hate Ron because he's a typical teenager. He does the stuff most teenagers would do in that situation. People don't like to be reminded that if the world of Harry Potter existed, they wouldn't all be Harry/Dumbledore/Snape/JamesP/Hermione.

I am not entirely sure where this originates from, though I suppose it comes from all of the few Slytherins shown in canon were all united in their evil and mudblood hating ways.

Still, it does make sense on some level. It is canon that Slytherin was the most unpopular of the Hogwarts houses, so it is only natural that the house should present a united front in public. Plus, you can just picture Snape tearing you apart if you are a member of his house and go against your houses' popular opinion in public.

We know next to nothing about James Potter. It isn't fair to the others to lump him with them.

Is that even canon? I don't think so.

Pet Peeve: An introductionary rite/speech for the house Harry was just sorted into.
For every house but Gryffindor. Am I really supposed to believe that imbalance?

I don't think Snape would stop hating Harry, but he might hide his hate. Not like Snape has no experience hiding his feelings.
    Harry=James 2.0, James=Gryffindor and Harry=Slythering => ERROR

I think Snape hates Harry more because he survived where Lily didn't. It is shown in canon that he disliked Harry even the day to agreed to turn spy for Dumbledore.

And cause he's Harry Potter, not Harry Snape, the living testament of Lily choose his nemesis over him, cause he was idiotic enough to insult her with the m-word (according the reaction to the use of he word "mudblood", it's something like the magic equivalent of the n-word).

I was of a similar age to them when reading the HP books. I don't need to be in my twenties to find betrayal, pettiness and jealousy tiring.

I ended a strong friendship at a similar age for similar reasons. I get what you're trying to say, but painting everyone with the same brush is kind of annoying.

A pet peeve, if you will.

While a reason for his dislike, I don't think it's the only one.

Already stated this before, but going to reiterate it since it is still annoying as shit. Badly handled Time-Travel/Dimension Hopping story reveals. Seriously, we don't need everyone to know your a Time-Traveler/Dimension Hopper and for it to be revealed in the lamest way possible, usually within the first chapter or two. Often occurring in the hospital wing or Dumbledore's office. 99% of the time surrounded by the Potter Family and Co. plus the Order of Phoenix. Original.

I've hit the X button quite a few times on those stories because of the reveal alone, even if the story was great up until that point, and is probably still great after it, a shit reveal can really break a story for me no matter how good it is outside of said reveal.

The only story I can remember that handled it to perfection was Timely Errors by Worfe. A true masterpiece on how to do time travel right, and even to this day 5 years after it was completed it still puts others of the same genre to shame.

Oh, agreed. So many times writers have had characters somehow sherlock their way to figuring out the character is a TIME TRAVELER.

It's also annoying when they feel the need to immediately confide their status to others. Part of the fun of TT fics for me is the unfair advantage their knowledge gives them over everyone else.

The worst thing about the reveals is always the quick acceptance of time/dimension travel, even though there is no precedence. I'd really like to see someone telling timetravel!Harry to ease up on the mushrooms (or whatever hallucinogen there is for wizards).

This here. I have a very low tolerance for pettiness and bullshit when it comes to my friends and have had friendships demolished for less. As someone like that I really can not stand how Harry puts up with it.

World of magic. Sure, we would have very high standards of evidence for time-travel, but they live in a world of magic where time-travel on a smaller scale already exists. Not to mention just magic in general doing near impossible things.

I do however have an issue with everyone jumping to that conclusion though.

Don't forget that "conventional" time travel is well documented. The problem is most stories do not use the "conventional" time travel and instead use one that breaks the laws and signs/features of the "conventional" one. You just don't believe someone who tells you a story that is impossible to your laws of science without major proof.

peeve: Harry keeping his time/dimension travel secret when there's absolutely no fucking reason to.

This is the reason I liked the beginning of Harry Potter and the Trust. Harry got with Dumbledore and shit got organized real fast. The rest of story wasn't so good.

It's a confusing situation for me. Fics where the time traveller lets someone (soon to be followed by many some ones) in on their secret are instantly boring. Same goes for when another character instantly figures it out. Stories where they actually don't (really rare) I spend a lot of time wanting someone to figure it out.

The unfair advantage they have is definitely the best part though.

I believe I've tried to read that fic twice, stopped reading pretty quickly.

It is same in Backwards with a Purpose. Things slowed down after that though since they needed to keep the timeline as similar as possible so as not to make their foreknowledge useless. The story picked up brilliantly after 4th year, so it was all well and good.

Personally, I think Harry not telling Dumbledore anything is retarded- its as if he wants to fail again. Then again, it might make things too easy if he just told Dumbledore everything- so I atleast understand where the other stories come from.
