The Fidelius and Occlumency are definitely huge offenders. I find the Fidenlius much worse than Occlumency though, from what I can piece together from canon, almost no one knows how to perform that spell. Only Dumbledore (and someone did it on Shell Cottage?). But in fanon everyone is casting Fidelius charms on everything and the knowledge for how to do so is always in a book.

A pet peeve of mine is when everyone turns to Dumbledore (in a fic) and expects him to fix things, regardless of whether he can or not (and 99% of the time he can because it is Dumbledore after all). It just kills it for me, Dumbledore tackling everything on his own. I mean, if the fic isn't about his own youth and tackling on Grindelwald as a growing threat, after the incident with Arianna, I'm interested in it.

I also dislike turning Remus' lycanthropy, and that of others, into some kind wolf-human hybrid. And no, I'm not referring to the transformation itself or an extra sense or two that the werewolf might have, but rather that suddenly Remus thinks like a wolf, where words like cub, pack and the like get thrown around.

If werewolves aren't like the ones in Dog Soldiers, they're not werewolves. Fuck movie Lupin werewolf. Weird ass spider dog.

Have you watched Bad Moon yet? That's a fairly decent looking werewolf too, even if the transformation is a tad silly.

Also, I wonder if Greyback looked as starved/sickly as Remus did in his werewolf form.

Yeah, this whole feudalistic crap is not really there in canon, anyway.

Not Potter related but still a pretty big Pet Peeve:

Authors who will only update their story after reaching a certain amount of reviews.

That shit is stupid. It's just about the author's self-fulfillment and unless you have a popular fic with many sort of constructive reviews, then this maneuver either kills the fic or there's a flood of one-liners.

I'd rather get one long, constructive, well thought-out review than a thousand unsigned demands for moar plz which mean nothing to me.

Closely related to "tell me what to do next chapter". And yes, I agree. Though I understand to a point that if they feel no one is interested in reading their story they can't really be bothered writing it, it still sucks for the people that ARE reading it. I also get the feeling those authors don't really have a long term plan for their story.

On a similar note, when authors put pairings up for vote. Kills fics for me 99% of the time, because 99% of the time harems win.

Still beats authors holding their stories hostage until enough people donate enough money to their not-for-profit employer.

Wasn't that the case with that Rationality fic? Is that who you're referring to golan?

My third and last Harry/Fleur fic has this as a central plot line in the fic. He is then hired on as the DADA instructor for Harry's fourth year, but before the year starts, Harry and Ron spent the entire summer with him on a Central American beach.

The Harry and Ron that return to Hogwarts for their fourth year are a lot more confident, capable, and complete smartasses after hanging out with Sirius during the summer.

(Plus, you know, actual plot stuff . . .)

    Don't even ask.

EY. MoR. (Trying to avoid a Google alerts hit and having us all to suffer another round of stupidtroll.) Though he deleted his author's notes and he and his disciples might pretend otherwise, it happened.

Authors confusing their characters 'voices' with their own.

Ron inexplicably gaining a moment of clarity, totally ooc, and admitting that, actually, he and Hermione wouldn't make a good pair.

    For example

    Sigh

Or worse: Authors who let readers vote on who should be killed next.

or letting the readers decide in which house Harry ends up in (probably the worst one)
