Problem is that Hermione would require far more than "she were vulnerable" and "lied to" to end in relationship with dumb, rich, offensive racist that she hated (with a good reasons) since their first meeting.

It would require either replacing Hermione by OC or attempting to describe something that cannot be qualified as romance by a sane person.

Yeah, I hand waved Hermione's part of it. Soo.. perhaps a mild love/lust potion to get the initial date, reducing it gradually while doing the I'm-a-tortured-soul-wouldn't-you-like-to-redeem-me and I-can-actually-do-gallantry, and then the crazy seeps in. Or a full on the Dark Lord won, now watch Hermione develop the Stockholm syndrome. So yeah, looks like "cannot be qualified as romance by a sane person", but can still be done.

Same as Hermione/Draco except that Snape already has an affinity for brainy mudbloods and Hermione 'respects' authority figures. Add a pinch of Lolita and the writer's version of beer goggles ("I don't describe things well, so he can't be all that unattractive...") and you've got a ship that's seaworthy.

Also, the voice of Alan Rickman makes sweet dirty love to women's earholes.

Multicrossovers, For fucks sake there is a limit to trouble one person can get into in 10 minutes and that limit isn't over 20 mortal danger.

AT some point things just becomes meaningless.

The free power ups that is used to avoid said dangers is another metter entirely.

Pure Powerups suck. Give me a reason for them to be in the story. Tell me why it's not able to be tapped into until now (and please, no "Dumbles' magical menagerie of magical cores to be unbound" crap). In other words . . . FORESHADOW.

So this is a really weird one, but any time I see the word "training" in an HP fic I pretty much have conniption. Usually because it signals that I'm reading a pretty poor quality indy!Harry fic.

When an author relates everything about magic to combat situations. I see it mostly in Familiar of Zero fics but there is a fair share of it in Harry Potter fics.

No seriously, if they called it anything other than "training" I'd be fine. Call it studying for crap's sake; they're in a bloody school!

When a protagonist tells (explains to) every other damn character how awesome (pwnwtf) he is.
Have recently read Naruto fic where many dialogs are like this: "Naruto, you have rinnegan!". "No, that's uber rinnegan so, among other things, I can do X, Y....ect"

The summary sounded not bad for this kind of fics.
So don't know what I expected but damn.

There is a time and place to gloat about your skill set but it should be once you trapped the opponent with it and he is one second away from dying. And it should be something you worked for, so at least you have a reason to want others to know or something so utterly unfair (and false, because you should always lie when bragging like this) that the fame and fear outweighs the tactical disadvantage. To do so every time in a fic with a battle setting is idiotic and likely to have people confuse you with a villain. I expect that that Naruto was later attacked by a party of allies of justice if that is how he behaved.

Sad part about it is that the author probably wanted to write a "smart" Naruto. He would have probably put that in the description to boot. God knows that how this kind of thing usually goes.

Is he talking about mid-battle banter? It sounded like a general thing.

Yes, it's a general thing. The point is that the tone of conversations is like when you speak about the weather and have no impact whatsoever( other than few lines of shock exclamation). The whole thing feels like it's totally out of place.

Yeah, I can see how that would be annoying. Unless everyone did it and the author made all but one character exaggerate about their abilities for a comic effect but by how you are saying it I gather that is not the case.

Reading a book earlier and I was reminded of how much I despise the sheer overuse of names in fiction. Characters refering to other characters by name every other sentence, even (or especially) when there's no one else around they could be talking to. It's almost like the authors are scared of using narration to let the reader know who's talking.

"Oh Harry, I'm so dreadfully sorry!"

    "Don't worry about it, Hermione."

"Harry, do you blah blah blah?"

    "I don't think so, Hermione".

"And also blah blah Harry Harry Harry".

"Of course not, Hermione Hermione Hermione".

    And so on.

It really annoys me, especially because I only ever use someone's name to get their attention, and never actually during a conversation with them. I think that basically describes how everyone interacts with others.

And using nicknames are even worse, especially if they're really dumb ('Mione looks and sounds so lame).

    Not the only place.

I always get a chuckle out of the protagonist whose tied up about to be killed, and then explains why he's about to win (as long as it's handled properly). Not to be used in serious stories usually, though it can be, but done well in action/comedy type stories: such as this one, though that's not exactly the same. But close enough to make my point.

Then there's this one, which approaches the cliche from a completely different angle.

    I agree.

People in real life who know each other don't constantly use names.
