That was a pretty good fic. He did a good job of keeping her in character in that fic as well.

Jeconais got me into romance/fluff in the first place through his Harry/Gabrielle story. His stories haven't aged well in general, but they were good for their time.

Do we even know anything about her character? Unless there's a scene I forgot about, she's basically a blank slate in canon and her entire persona is 100% fanon.

We don't even know what colour hair she has and we only know she has a sister because JKR said so.

We also know she's Malfoy's sister-in-law, if memory serves correctly.

Would that be the one where she uses some form of Veela magic to bind him to her, so that he can't even feel pleasure/satisfaction/anything with any other girl, the one where she'll go insane and/or die if he doesn't accept her at some ordained time?

The worst corner of fanfiction imo. And that's saying a lot.

I think Ice Queen Daphne predates that. If I remember correctly, fem!Blaise -- the original Harry/Slytherin girl pairing -- also used to be routinely described as the Ice Queen of Slytherin. When Daphne took fem!Blaise's crown, she also inherited the throne to the Ice Kingdom.

I like that Fem!Blaise went away.

I like it whenever the books, or Pottermore destroy/invalidate a part of fanon.

    It makes my day.

The Ice Queen archetype has existed for a long time in literature and film but I think the 2005 Jeconais story either began the trend with respect to Daphne in that role or at least popularized it to the point of excessive imitation.

Not my point. The character he paints in the beginning of the story stays in character throughout it, and the numerous short stories thereafter. It is possible to take a blank slate and create personality, and then stay true to that character.

In fact, I'd argue that it's an important (though optional) step in being able to create your own worthwhile OCs and eventually, writing your own stories.

Daphne Greengrass is mentioned only in the 1st book during the sorting and later as part of Pansy Parkinson's posse.

Yes and no on Harry's part. He hints later on through an ex-girlfriend that the bond wasn't strong enough to hold him to Gabrielle. Its said with such authority that it's hard not to take that line as anything more than the author's information showing that Gabrielle didn't understand the bond as much as she thought she did.

The biggest problem in that story, IMO, is the uneven character development. Gabrielle develops quite a bit, but Harry, Ron, and many others are pretty much two dimensional. Hermione has a bit of development that's nice to see—she's not perfect, which isn't written nearly enough.

But then, the story also suffers with the normal all-powerful Harry taking on eviL!Dumbles and his hapless band of idiots in Snape and others.

    The word "bemused."

I have no idea why this is - probably some kind of echo chamber effect - but Harry Potter fanfic writers use this word, as a group, way more often than the general public.

And 80% of them don't know what it means. It usually shows up in dialogue attributions and someone's using it in the context of a character reacting to something. And they use it as a synonym for "amused." Makes me want to tear my hair out every time.

I too have noticed that and must confess to being quite bemused by it.

I have a vague recollection that Dumbledore uses it in canon a few times, which would probably explain it.

An astute explanation, though I believe that most authors prone to doing such have not paid as much attention to canon as you have.
