Boring-ness.
Mainly when an author's story has an imaginative and interesting idea that could be put into a cool 50K fic, and tries to write 500K epic out of it.
This is only accomplished because of a ridiculous amount of pointless filler.
I would much rather read a fairly short and interesting fic than something that has 10000+ words detailing the trip to Diagon alley.

The Wizarding World being full of some goddamn feudalistic horseshit (most of the world abandoned monarchy or took most of it's power (e.g. the European monarchs are just there for the tourists) and good fucking riddance), with all it's "Lords", magical rings that allow the head of the House to control the minds of the House members, Harry owning half of the solar system due to being heir to every noble house in existence, legal slavery, unbreakable marriage contract drawn couple of centuries ago, the wizard gov't being controlled by a council with hereditary seats (which Harry has 10 of due to being the heir to hell knows how many so-called "Ancient and Most Noble Houses"), the crown having something like actual power in the wizard gov't (and being used as Mary Sue to get Harry out of the claws of the hilariously corrupt Ministry of Morons), the wizards of Britain being bound to obey the crown by some old contract or else lose their magic and stuff I don't remember because of having a bad memory.

 

The sad thing is, a lot of this sprung up from that one passage in OotP where Sirius and Harry are looking at the Black tapestry, a cursory reading of which indicates how much Sirius is mocking it and how out of touch with reality the Blacks were.

 

I hate returning library books because I've read better fanfics. Seriously, this book is painful.

 

And we have also Sirius mom, this racist thundercunt, with her damn portrait screaming at everyone (giving rise to authors giving Sirius the middle name Orion, so he and others can refer to him as an S.O.B.).

 

Order of the Phoenix? Didn't the decline start with the last two books or did I get something wrong?

 

Private Drive... eugh. For fuck's sake people, Privet is the 8th word on the 1st page in PS! It can't be that hard to check or just google it. It's the first thing that comes up even if you write Private Drive.

 

Pet peeve of the day: people complaining the last two books.

We get it. They were not as special as the previous five. We know.

Can I complain about not liking the fifth as much as I liked the first four?

Whether or not it's true, that phrase, word for word, now annoys the shit out of me.

 

And then the inevitable girl (either Ginny or Hermione in most fics which use this trope) consoling Harry in this "most vulnerable" state. Oh God. This one trope makes me throw up in my mouth a little every time I come across it.

 

The fic I just read had Daphne doing the consoling.

 

Ah but Harry, you mightn't like it but you can use that fame to your advantage!

 

A pet peeve of mine is people treating Hermione Granger's intellect as something awe-inspiring, or downright terrifying. I don't know. I always hate fics that pump her up, that tell how people should be in awe or fear of her, for some reason. To put it more simply, I hate Hermione-wanking fics.

I pretty much as a rule of thumb follow Reptillia28 challenge stories hoping for the odd good story from it but this one was pretty bad from the get go. I probably should stopping seeing as I haven't seen a good fic in ages from it.

 

I hate Hermioe in general. In some aspects, she's worse than Ginny.

Both, in my case. I hate bossy know-it-alls like her in fiction. I get that she was JKR's self-insert, but it still doesn't mean I liked Hermione to any great extent in the books. Made me hate her more after I found out. And fanfiction is a morass of such characteristics being emphasized in Hermione.
