Be surprise......... I have never seen A ninja's review of anything. In fact just about every film critic hates Pirates and Orblando Bloom. So it is also highly likely that the ninja copied them

So...it's out, and I went to see it earlier. I actually enjoyed it. Not as good as the first, but a lot better than the other two. Sure, it's not exactly deep or meaningful film-making, but it's good fun, amusing, and it rattles along briskly enough. There were a few things that could have been trimmed to give more time for other things, but it's worth a watch imo.

Saw it last night. I was expecting more... There were only 2 fight scenes in the movie and they spent only 5 minutes in the entire movie on boats.

Also, Jack Sparrow in this one was a little bitch. He fought a guy with tentacles on his face in the middle of a fucking maelstrom, yet every time Black Beard tells Jack to jump, he jumps.
Except at the end when he tricks him to drink the wrong glass

This movie was funny, in rest I was very disappointed with it.

I read that the guy they had directing has a lot of experience with drama and comedy, and little to none with action scenes. That's sad, because the fight choreography was my favorite part of the first one, and nearly the only excellent elements in the other two. Saad face. Oh well. There are a lot of really cool dudes in this movie, so there's that.

I saw Keith Richards on Fallon the other night, and I kind of love him now.

And I always loved Ian McShane. Man's a boss.

@Rusty: I'd say the fight choreography is just as good here - Ron Howard hasn't done a lot of action, as far as I know, but he's got a background in dance choreography (Chicago, Nine), and there's a sword fight at least as good as the forge one in CotBP.

Well in comparison to the previous directer this guy is Coppola. Gore Verbinski couldn't direct traffic.

The only good thing about this movie was the mermaids.

And not just 'cause they're hot. The mermaid battle was fucking epic.

But... mostly just 'cause they're hot.

There's another Pirates movie now? This thread is the first I've heard of it -- is this like the 5th one? I haven't seen any of them in theaters but I do recall enjoying the first one on TV later, and from reading this thread it seems to be the most popular one. I think I've seen parts of some of the sequels but they didn't keep my interest, and one of them got a bit too carried away with some villain who looked like he had an octopus merged with his face.

I'll probably catch this one on TV in a few months as well, unless everyone says that it's just fantastic. At least I know it exists now!

    It wasn't bad.

    It was bland.

The movie was full of half- or not-at-all-explained plot points, most of which came from so far in left field that they had me reeling at the sheer lack of coherence. The characterization was shoddy in the extreme, and for characters like Blackbeard, this ties into the first point. And Jack wasn't crazy/random enough in comparison to the previous films.

The plot itself was rather forced. The entire thing was set up just to get Jack on some epic adventure full of danger and riches. Literally, set up from the start.

Maybe seeing it a second time would clear up some things or be more enjoyable. Or not. This would have been so much better if it was an hour longer and fleshed out everything just a little bit more.

Went to see it, these are my feelings:

Disney somehow managed to make a pirate movie boring. How? Pirates are the antithesis of boring. Plundering, raping, a little gay sex, it's not boring. It might not be good, but it's not boring.

Jack Sparrow is a shit protagonist and anyone stupid enough to believe otherwise should be shot.

Whoever had the idea to put this passive, immortal comedy relief character as the main protagonist is a fucking idiot. He's immortal. How the hell am I supposed to feel scared for him? HE'S FUCKING IMMORTAL. He can't die, because he fucking made the franchise. He's not a compelling character in the slightest.

Oh, and the chase scenes have gotten old. So has the fucking chase music they've been using since movie 1.

It's a boring pirate movie, which is much worse than a bad pirate movie.
