TheIllusiveOne: What the hell are you on about?

JK OBVIOUSLY gave permission for HP FanFiction to exist, or otherwise FFNet wouldn't allow you to post it, would it? Think things through.

When you start posting a story on FFNet, something that i gather you haven't done, they show you a list of authors that said that they did NOT want fanfiction about their stories to be posted. Of course, idiots everywhere do it regardless.

Now...i'm gonna be honest. Tridentwatch was a cretin. He was full of himself, and frankly, i thought he was an idiot. He regularly made comments about his own writing prowess, and made the most ridiculous statements that apparently stemmed from his bloated self-esteem.

If you read his post on the thread about the fic Prodigy which features Genius!Harry, you'll know exactly what i'm talking about. He blasted a perfectly good fic to pieces, ripping on things that most readers thought were excellent. He blasted the writing, the grammar...the PLOT!!! He called it unoriginial, and after his bullshit tirade, he went and said:

(roughly quoted from memory) "I give it an 8/10...purely on effort."

Draw your own conclusions...mine is that, as LT2000 put it, he is a shitstain.

Now, i wasn't putting you down by saying that you haven't posted on FFNet. What i mean is this:

Imagine writing a story, a fanfic. Now, you've put in hours of work on this, and you update with chapters that are very well recieved. You have an original plot in a field full of cliches. You've come up with ideas and you've written thousands of words in your story.

Then, something happens to draw your attention away from regularly posting. When you come back, some idiot has taken it upon himself to rewrite your story, and has commented on the fact that yours is not up to scratch. Sure, it isn't blatantly copied since he moved it to post-HBP rather than pos-GOF...but he took the cornerstone of your plot, and made a pointed comment about how his rewrite is better than yours by far.

How would you feel? I'd be pissed as hell, and being authors, most of the people here are. Hell...most of the people here are pissed because it's bad form, regardless of whether they write or not.

If some jackass, full of himself, decided to rewrite Chimera or Incubus, i'd be pissed. Fuck his reasoning...if he thinks i write badly, or that he's far better than i am...good for him. But don't rip me off. It's been a while since i updated, although i'm working on it now...if some jackass rewrote it because he didn't want to wait for updates or whatever, i'd be pissed.

I dunno how old you are, but when i was in high-school, the largest essays i ever wrote were a maximum of 5000 words long. I had over a month to write those, and they involved very little creativity. I post chapters that are, at the very least, 7500 words in length. Think about how long it takes to write a chapter that long, and make it interesting, original and exciting.

I dunno about you, but i'm pretty damn sure that the admin/mod who banned him had the right idea.

 

Feh he was one cocky son of a Bitch. Kinda glad hes no longer here, whatever the reason was.

Eh btw, this might seem dumb, but were can I even find Contempt's works? I tried ff.net search but no luck.

I am a bit interested in reading it, as well as compare it to tridents one.

Wow, I feel honored that someone thought my idea was good enough to spark a debate about plagarism spanning 5 pages. I really don't have a problem with that guy using my ideas, although I'm a bit miffed at his assumption that his rewrite will be better than my original work.

Well, we'll see which rewrite is better after I start writing my own rewrite of my work after I take my AP Latin exam this friday. See all this debate over my work made me feel quite special, and has re-invigored my interest in the story. Of course, I'll be scrapping the past-live thing, cause thinking about it, it was a poorly used plot device for Harry to get the experience of battle without actually having to go through battle. I'll try and be much more realistic when I rewrite it...

Heh, I was just stopping by to get a link to a story I wanted to re-read, and check the main dicussion thread to find this. Thanks for your support for the original, but I think it would be a better story without the whole past lives thing, cause it makes it to easy to give Harry experience in the ways of war. Experience cannot be given, it must be earned.

 

IIRC, Vash banned Trident for making a post with like 40 something smileys in it after being explicitly told to cut down on the ridiculous amounts of them he was using in his posts. Willfully defying an admin isn't a smart idea.

 

This may sound mean, but good riddance. This guy seemed like a superioristic asshole. If this offends anyone I'm sorry.

 

Mean. Nah I don't think so. He was seriously full of himself and as annoying as hell.(Bit Like Dark Lord Shabraningo before he changed his ways) and had no right to assume the story was free game because the author hit a slow patch.

 

Welcome back Contempt! Take your time before writing the rewrite ok? We don't want you to be ignoring more important stuff before writing.

 

Oh geez good, hes back, aftering reading those 4 chapters I found on the author thread... was hoping hed come lurking back.

 

He replied to all the flames you guys sent him in his FFN profile:

I checked up the story, and he really put up a disclaimer claiming that original idea is Contempt's.

Unfortunately, I happen to have the original version saved on my HD, and it lacks any sort of disclaimer at all. It all points out that he put this warning up only after receiving shit-storm of plagarism accusations, so to either correct his innocent ommision OR make himself look like an innocent victim (whichever version you choose to beleive).

PS, he'll definitely get banned from FFN, plagiarism or not. FFN admins will check out his story after all the reports and see his author page... which will then get deleted for excessive usage of curse words (that's how StainedFuture got wiped out)... So, you win either way!

 

Did he ever think that there was a reason for his low english grade. Maybe cause he's not that great of a writer. If he is doing this to improve his writing good for him, but I don't think writing fanfiction helps that much. So he shouldn't be claiming that his story is better than Contempt's. On another subject Contempt, are you planning on continuing your story? Because it is really good.

 

Actually, I rewrote my prologe just this afternoon, although its still not very long. I'm going to try and lengthen the chapter lengths to my story because the original was woefully short.
