Fics where Harry gets thrown in Azkaban and then proceeds to turn or neutralize the auror contingent, defeats the dementors, subjugates the other prisoners, establishes a viable, sustainable township on a rock in the north sea explicitly chosen for its harsh, isolated, desolate conditions and with only a population of the aforementioned malnourished, half-insane inmates, arranges a long term goal for himself beyond stand on the shoreline so that some time next decade I can cackle at Ron and Hermione about how they sealed their fate regarding Voldemort the day they burned his photo album: 0

Harry could be a half (more than half) insane Pied Piper sort of figure who goes to the maintland every now and then and lures people away from the war with the promise of a secret sanctuary, only to find themselves trapped on an island where Harry rules with an iron fist over a community of maniacs.

 

I could buy Dudley working for the blood protection stuff, but I don't think Marge would take Harry in under any circumstance.

 

Has anyone ever done a story in which Petunia was born a witch as well? I'm interested in seeing how would such an AU develop, because Petunia being magical changes everything.

 

I can imagine Petunia as a ladder climber.

 

Petunia seems quite content to be a stay at home mother/wife. I don't see why magic would change that part of her character.

 

She's a gossiper who sticks her nose in her neighbours business for the latest juicy gossip and spends far too much time worrying about her social image.

 

She's a gossip, that has nothing to do with careers. She'd just be a magical housewife, looking over her magical fence, snooping on her magical neighbors.

But how much of her character as an adult is rooted in her insecurities from her smarter, prettier, more popular sister going off to a fairy tail castle to turn mice into teacups and frollick with unicorns? Would she still develop a slavish devotion to all things proper and normal if not for the driving motivation of 'well keep your magic, I never wanted to go to hogwarts anyway' which if I'm remembering right we know she did. As a muggle she has no end of people to look down her nose and tut at, being the 'right sort' as she is, it's the one thing she does have to cling to for self-worth. Or would going to Hogwarts, keeping her relationship with her sister, and the war shape her into a better person, which wouldn't exactly be hard since canon Petunia is pretty terrible.

 

I think at the end of it all Petunia would still be a jealous, insecure person. Just not one that locks a child in a cupboard. Lily would still be prettier, smarter, and more popular. And ending up with smart, popular, and, most importantly, wealthy James Potter wouldn't help things.

I agree that she'd be a social climber and she could still devote herself to all that was normal and proper, but by wizarding world standards.

So like a Slytherin Petunia. She lies about her heritage and Lily goes along with it to keep her sister safe. She spends seven years kissing up to the likes of Slughorn and Lucius. She finds the magical equivalent to Vernon and spends her life looking down on the poor and the muggle lovers. Or maybe she unknowingly marries a death eater to spite the sister who advised her against it.

 

Still going to be there. Lily is going to wipe the floor with her academically and she seems fare more likeable than Petunia.

 

Say what you will about Petunia, but she recognized from pretty much day 1 that Snape was a piece of shit. That's a pretty good quality to have and not a bad starting point to build off of.

Granted, I have 0 interest about reading a Petunia goes to Hogwarts story, but I think you're selling her short if you think she'd cozy up to purebloods (dont see how that would actually work, either) or Hogwarts would have no impact on her psyche.

Ravenclaw Petunia who isn't a particularly good fit for that house but its the best the sorting hat can come up with.

Turn her into the antithesis of Mrs. Weasley. She desires domesticity and a place in this world. But her muggleborn status, her personality, and her increasingly warped views of her sister (to think she was once so happy when she found out she would be with her sister at Hogwarts...) and her outspoken venom towards Snape and over time, towards that entire house are all working against her.

 

I smell a Vlad-story in the working.

 

So, if muggle Petunia wanted the most normal looking life and husband would a witch!Petunia want the most magically flamboyant life and husband? She reveled in being the quintessential middle class house wife. As a witch I bet her house would put the The Burrow and the Weasley’s to shame.

I wouldn’t even know where to start. My mind went in like 10 different directions on what Petunia’s life would be like. The craziest one was where Snape grows so bitter with Lily choosing James he wants to hurt her so he begins to date Petunia who has grown to like his dark personality. Lily and James don’t ship Petunia/Snape, of course, so there’s a lot of tension on the holidays.

My own plot bunny:

“This is a mistake, Armando,” Dumbledore implored the ancient headmaster. “The man can not be trusted.”

“I’ve heard your arguments, Albus, but unless you can offer proof that Mr. Riddle is unfit for the Defense position I intend to make him the offer tomorrow.”

 

I wonder, since Riddle would remain at Hogwarts, that would mean he doesn't go around the world learning various things.
