Result of drunken fic reading at 5am.

    The 'Taureverse'

Alexandra Potter thought the summer after her second year at Hogwarts was really weird. Not only she now possessed two bodies at once but she also received Dumbledore's memories when he was killed. There are also rumors that the new Muggle Prime Minister, one Thomas Riddle, is a wizard. How will the Lords of Magic react to all this?

Apparently the whole Infinity Gate/Tython idea sucks when I actually write it down. I started over seven times and it sucked just as bad each time. I'm scraping this idea and going with something else.

AU Harry Potter series created by re-arranging the words in the titles.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Stone.

A group of Death Eaters who evaded justice after the first war, seek to find the Deathly Stone, one of the Deathly Hallows which is said to be able to bring the dead back to life. Their reasons for this search is a desire to bring their old master to full power. However, the Stone was hidden years ago by Master of Death Albus Dumbledore, deep beneath the ancient dungeons of Hogwarts. Harry Potter, mentored by Dumbledore all his life, is given a task of retrieving the Stone but forbidden from using it, as it is an artifact of very corrupting nature. Will Harry be able to keep the Stone from the Death Eaters, or will he give in into the temptation of its power?

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Secrets.

Lord Voldemort has returned and Albus Dumbledore has died by the Dark Lord's hand. Harry Potter, the new Master of Death, must find a way to destroy Voldemort once and for all before it is too late. Research into his enemy's past reveals a connection to Nicolas Flamel, the only wizard to reach the age of 600 and the current French Minister of Magic. Nobody knows how Flamel managed to stay alive for such a long time but Harry is determined to find out no matter what.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Azkaban.

On the island of Azkaban, there is a chamber that is never to be opened. Legends tell that it hides creatures foulest than the darkest of magics. Lord Voldemort seeks to harness their power for his own agenda, but the Goblins of Azkaban are not easily intimidated. Neither is Harry Potter, their new ally.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Fire.

With the terrible abominations known as Dementors under his rule, Lord Voldemort's victory seems inevitable. However, a new ally is available to the Master of Death. Harry has freed Gellert Grindelwald, Dumbledore's old partner, from the Infernal Abyss. And with Grindelwald came the mysterious Heliopaths.

Harry Potter and Order of the Goblet.

A new faction made itself known to the Master of Death and the Dark Lord. Order of the Goblet, an ancient organization supposedly founded by Lady Morgana herself. The Order appears to neither support Voldemort nor does it support Harry. What agenda they may have and what are their plans for Hogwarts? With the Statute of Secrecy barely holding together, how will this new player affect the course of the war?

Harry Potter and the Phoenix Prince.

While the the Order of the Goblet was destroyed by the combined efforts of Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter, the Statute of Secrecy has fallen and both the muggle and the wizarding world are in chaos. Many fear that the end may come soon, but a new beacon of hope has appeared. A prophecy was made heralding the arrival of the Phoenix Prince, the chosen one who shall lead the wizarding population towards greatness, prosperity and independence. Harry is suspicious of this new person and seeks to discover his identity, so does Voldemort.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Hallows.

For wizards the muggles are no more, reality has been split in two creating separate worlds for both groups. Lord Voldemort has been finally defeated by the Master of Death and the Phoenix Prince and as they lead the wizarding world into a new era, Harry wakes up one day to discover that the Hallows have been stolen from him. Who might have done it? Who was cunning and invisible enough to hide from his sight? Harry must act quickly, for if one hundred days pass, he shall cease to be the Master of Death.

I mentioned this idea before, but here it goes again, more defined.

An accident with the Mirror of Erised gives Harry the ability to see what people really want.

Some scenes, in order by which Harry sees the visions:

    ---Dumbledore

Looking from the shattered remains of the mirror, Harry turned to Dumbledore and immediately made an involuntary step backwards.

He was seeing Headmaster surrounded by other people, some of them clearly related to the older man. There was an older couple, perhaps Dumbledore's parents, there was a man looking very similar to him, maybe a brother and there was a girl about Harry's age, smiling and playing with the Headmaster's long beard.

Next to Dumbledore, was also a handsome blond man, wearing Harry's own Invisibility Cloak, holding a wand in one hand and a small stone in another.

    ---Ron

Ron's image shifted before Harry. He suddenly grew to be taller than Percy and his age also seemed to change, even his muscles became that of an older boy. He was the captain of the Quidditch team, but the badges of a Prefect and the Head Boy were also proudly displayed on his chest. And there was this strange glow around the redheaded boy, as if you couldn't look away from him.

But what made less sense to Harry was the fact that he clearly saw his own lightning-bolt scar on Ron's forehead.

    ---Snape

As Harry entered the classroom, he couldn't help but flinch when he noticed who was sitting on Professor Snape's desk. Lily Potter, Harry's own mother was sitting there, looking straight at Snape and she was smiling. The potions master, obviously oblivious to her presence, looked at Harry who was staring at him with his mouth open.

This seemed too disturbing for Harry to make any sense, why was Harry's mum Snape's greatest desire? Shaken, Harry quickly took his seat, determined to look at someone else.

    ---Quirell

Harry was prepared to see yet another vision of someone's dreams, but something went wrong when he looked at Professor Quirell. There was this terrible green lightning bolt in the air, going through the older man as the world before Harry split in two. It was quite the bizarre experience and Harry felt his head hurting a little from having two points of view at once.

Through one vision he saw the Defense Professor kneeling in front of a tall, hooded figure and holding out a bright red stone to it. And he was seeing something else at the same time, the hooded figure from the first vision was now alone, standing above all like a god and Harry knew right away who he was looking at.

That sounds very interesting, though it might be an ability that is far too over powering. For instance, Harry might very well see right through Barty Crouch Jr.'s facade if he sees Voldemort tailing around him. And what would happen when he saw Peter Pettigrew in rat form? Things of that nature.

It would be interesting to see how "one's greatest desire" shifts moment to moment; in a fight Harry might see others' desires to injure or kill him supersede their otherwise vain goals.

Heh, if Barty Crouch's greatest desire was to see the Death Eaters who escaped Azkaban punished, that could work.

Pettigrew's desire could be not telling Voldemort about the Potters, perhaps he regrets what he has done. So Harry would see a vision of Peter having fun with the other marauders.

Barty's deepest desire could be to see his father as supporting Voldemort.

Or we could avoid rehashing the plot of the 4th year, especially with a 1st year POD ;)

This may be crippling, it would be hard to keep track of what is real and what is imagined. And I wonder how it would work with big groups of people.

Well, that's good, isn't it? That way it won't be Mary Sue 'all sun and roses' story.

As for big groups of people, I'm guessing the same thing that would happen if you put a Boggart among lots of folks. The creature wouldn't know what to do and would constantly change.

Another possibility is that in a large group, Harry sees the average of people's desires, or perhaps what they want as humanity as a whole.

Or, going the darker route, he's overwhelmed by visions and starts to avoid people like the plague.

This is a long one. I think I started to ramble in the middle of it too :colbert:

So, a plot bunny. A Harry Potter/Dragon age/Diablo crossover. Wizards, like the mage from DA, can access the fade (dream realm) when they sleep and are susceptible to be tempted and possessed by the demons that inhabit it. Once a wizards is possessed, he becomes an abomination, a monster that preys upon mortals and around whom apparition doesn't work.

Long ago, humanity tried to use magic to reach heaven with the help of three angels. Unfortunately for them, God thought that such action was to pretentious. He punished those who attempted it by transforming them into darkspawn and he banished the three angels from heaven and into the fade. Enraged by this and unwilling to admit their responsibility in what happened, they turned their anger against humanity, blaming them for being too impure and leading the spirits of the fade in a war against mankind. They thus became the three demon princes. Diablo, lord of terror. Mephisto, lord of hatred. Baal, lord of destruction.

They almost succeeded in wiping us out, if not for the actions of an
order called the Horadrim. They lead us against the demons and in the end defeated their princes by trapping their spirits in gems called soulstones. Unfortunately, they had no safe way to dispose of them. They then turned to the greatest wizards of the age, giving each group of them one of the soulstones in hopes that they would find a way.

Mephisto's was given to the founders of Hogwarts. They determined that the gems were only a temporary measure and the devils would eventually break away. To prevent this, Salazar Slytherin stabbed himself with it and imposed his will upon it to contain it's charge. Eventually the burden proved to be too great and fearing the worst, he sealed himself under the chamber of secrets, leaving a basilisk to guard it. Ever since then, people can't apparate in Hogwarts.

Diablo's was kept by the Horadrim, to be guarded by them. It passed from member to member as they used their will to contain the evil until one member found a way to contain it without such sacrifice. Young Flamel used a spell to create a protective layer around it, containing it's influence and accidentally creating the philosopher stone. Nowadays, only him knows the secret behind it.

Baal's was given to the Peverell brothers. They studied it and from what they learned they created three artifacts to contain the demon. They enchanted the gem to bring back the souls of the dead. By turning it three times it would summon the spirit of someone with strong will and then trap it into the stone to fight Baal until someone else was needed, saving the living from doing the same. Protections were weaved into the cloak of the youngest so that even the strongest demon couldn't detect him. Cut out from outside influences, the wearer could turn the stone without being tempted or driven insane by the whispers that came from it and stopping any possession from happening. Finally, the wand of the eldest, the more skilled of the three, was turned into a conduct so that they could use the demon's power to protect the stone. Soon afterwards though, the oldest was murdered after boasting of his wand that held the power of the lord of destruction. Fearing death by those that would want the secrets of the artifacts, the youngest took the cloak that hid him from everything and fled, leaving the middle one to fend for himself. Eventually the whispers of madness proved too much and he killed himself, passing the stone to his descendants who would faithfully turn the stone to keep the demon from escaping.

That was, however, long ago. To this day only a few know the truth and none of them the full of it. For the common wizard and witch, the three demon princes are not even a legend.

Until one Tom Riddle found a very special ring. One that contained an ancient evil.

At first, Baal tried to posses him but even back then Tom was a very talented, very stubborn young man. Failed that, the lord of destruction proposed a deal. He would give the kid power over his kin in the fade and in exchange he would get the boy's soul once he died. Tom accepted, gaining incredible power... and then turning the ring into an horcrux. He then proceeded to hide the enraged demon under several enchantment that would make it impossible for anyone, human or spirit to find him.

Years later the man would change his name and wage war on the wizardry world. He would summon creatures from the fade and create abominations and impose his will upon them. He would seem unstoppable until one Halloween night in 1981. The night when our story begins. For that was when two that were supposed to die didn't... and the demons realized they were cheated. They swore vengeance upon Voldemort, that they would collect all of his soul. But when they were ready to act he was already gone. Only a part of it was still there, in the forehead of a toddler but some strange magic would prevent them from collecting it.

For years after the fact, demons would haunt Harry but his mother protection would stop them from ever harming him or really come close to him. A series of disgraces would follow after the boy, causing madness, fires, crimes and general bad luck to happen to everyone but him and his family. He grew up oblivious as to the cause of it. At least he knows he doesn't have as bad as some people in the neighborhood.

Events happen as they did in canon. Hagrid collects Harry, takes him to Diagon Alley, they retrieve the stone from the gringotts vault and take Harry shopping. When Harry gets his wand though, something unusual happen. He picks Voldemort brother wand which, to all the demons that were haunting him because of his connection to him and could never reach him, it's like he had just showed them the finger. All the demons around go berserk, which wakes up Diablo there in the stone. Demons realize that the Boss is right there and Diablo gets all exited because "YES! Freedom is near!". About half a second later, gates to the fade open along Diagon Alley letting out infernal creatures, random pedestrians turn into abominations and people can no longer apparate in or out of the street. And the bloodbath begins.

Meanwhile, Quirinius Quirrell is leaving Gringotts vaults, cursing because the stone has already been removed and realizing it was probably hagrid who did it. As he is reaching the door, he notices the pandemonium and the people trying to hide inside the bank. He asks about it and they explain the situation. He realizes that with all the confusion he might get away with taking the stone from hagrid and that if he doesn't act the stone might get lost in the chaos. Decision made, he walks outside and enters the fight against the monsters, aiding the ministry officials that are fighting their way out of the Leaky Cauldron and into the street until he finally finds both Harry and Hagrid that are entrenched in one of the shops along with some others. He briefly considers taking them out but a glance outside confirms
that unless the portals are closed soon they will be overrun by the monsters. Since that can't be allowed to happen, he goes back outside and helps the ministry close the portals.

Quirrell is hailed as a hero and by this point, his charade as an incompetent wuss is a bust. With about two dozen deaths, however, the Diagon Alley incident is the greatest tragedy magical Britain has faced in recent memory.
A lot of Hogwarts students has lost family that day. Some more than others.

Having finally found one of their leaders and incensed because they still have not claimed a piece of Voldemort's soul, the demons redouble their efforts. Now not only do they haunt Harry but having felt that Quirrel had some proximity to Voldemort, they start to haunt him too. Since the teacher does not have a magical protection against them, him and his master flee to Hogwarts for some measure of protection. Since Quirrell is now high profile, Voldemort's wraith will reside in the chamber of secrets instead of the back of the teacher's head, perhaps even possessing the basilisk. The DADA instructor will now teach his class as he intended before his travels.

Quirinius was not the only one with some proximity to a shard of the dark lord's soul that was in the Alley that day. The night of the incident, Malfoy Mannor is razed to the ground by rampaging monsters, Draco being the only survivor. He is left to live with his closest blood relatives, his only consolation being the diary he saved from the fire. Yes, it is second hand and totally beneath him but it is the last thing his father ever gave him and he told him to guard it with his life, so there must be something to it.

Come the first school term, Draco is controlled by Tom, goes down to the chamber of secrets and finds Voldemort I. Tom is then recruited by his future self to steal the philosopher stone. Quirrell is no longer in charge of the operation, which means no Troll, which means no friends for Hermione.

The year goes on. Harry's classmates have a miserable year but he always watches their backs, which would be nice if he weren't the reason of their continued bad luck. Since nobody knows he is the reason for it, he seems like a good friend a la Hey, Arnold!

Eventually, Quirrell decides to betray Voldemort. He still wants the power, mind you, but after seeing what demons can do he is beginning to doubt to man's sanity for dealing with them. Plus, there is the fact that he doesn't like being ordered around by a kid and that he is now somewhat respected on his own, so who the heck needs Voldemort? He should be the next dark lord! He strikes at the last moment, something goes wrong and the outer layers of the stone shatters. Voldemort is the one closer to it and he starts transforming into Diablo after touching it. Turn out, shattering your soul into pieces might make susceptible to demons if you can't control them anymore. Who would have thought?

Quirrell assesses the situation. In front of him is one of the scariest mother f****rs in history and the stone he is holding is somehow turning him into something worse. Call it a gut feeling but he knows that if he transforms into that, they are all screwed. So he gathers his courage, faces the monster and steals the stone. And the thing is still transforming. Why the **** was that thing still transforming? He needs to disrupt it somehow, give it another target, something more obvious to prey upon. So he does the sensible thing and stabs himself in the forehead with. If asked about it at a later date, he would say that it sounded like a good idea at the time.

Diablo tries to possess Quirrell instead and the teacher flees the scene. He would spend a couple of months struggling for control before failing miserably.

That would be it for first year. I was thinking that for either second or third year a sloth demon might find it's way into Hogwarts, with the whole book happening in the fade. It would involve Harry realizing he is dreaming and in an alternate version of the castle without recollection of how he ended there. There would be four other dreamers, each with his/her own alternative version of Hogwarts based on their subconscious and in order to escape Harry has to identify who the dreamers are and which members of the dreams are actually minor demons in disguise. He would have the ability to travel from dream to dream using different passages of the castle and sometimes encountering memories of thing that happened on the school term that derived in that situation and might serve as clues to discover who the dreamers are.

Squibs can be trained in the skills of the templars to nullify magic so they work as guards, a defense against abominations and hunting dark wizards. This is because their bodies are adapted to use magic but they don't have a connection to the fade so they can't access to magic. They would use lyrium to power their spells that close access to the fade. As a matter of precaution, there is a squib living each mugleborn below seventeen. Filch would be a veteran templar from the war against Voldemort that lost his whole team and is now head of the templar division stationed at Hogwarts. His job is to kill the children if shit hits the fan.

Another job for squib would be the creation of lyrium based magical items since wizards can't handle the stuff.

The darkest form of magic would be blood magic, the sacrifice of life to contact demons and draw strength and knowledge from them.

Muggles would know about darkspawn but think they are just another evolved sapient creatures.

An idea I posted in Alternate Potter Worlds creation group.

    --- --- ---
The earth have drunk blood. Oceans boiled. The sky rained lightning, acid and blood. The void of the cosmos was the Final Frontier for a long time, but it is no more. There is only war.

What begin as a conflict between two answers to a single question escalated into a total war that has lasted for over 6 000 years and decimated the world. The armies of immortal God-Kings of Wizardkind and Venerable Mortals, have waged this war since the dawn of wizardkind in Mesopotamia and the discovery of the Horcrux Procedure.

The conflict begun as two answers emerged to a single question - "Should we extend our lives with magic over and above the time we were given?" Powerful wizards, kings, self-proclaimed emperors have arisen using the Horcrux Procedure and proclaimed themselves as gods and demanded total obiedence from other wizards and Muggles.

Some obeyed, some did not and they were exterminated, and some declared the Horcrux Procedure to be abominal, its users as abominations in the eyes of Nature and declared a holy war against them, thus the Venerable Mortals were born - "Life should end when Nature demanded it, and it should not be extended with magic" they said.

The conflict lasted for over 6 000 years and each side has performed it's own share of atrocietes in this total war. God-Kings have enslaved Muggles and other magical races and turned them into a cannon fodder that use simple weapons enchanced with basic spells. The Venerable Mortals turned to bio and genetic engenering to create superior warriors enchanced with magical implants and mutated to become the ultimate soldiers.

For both sides, cripled beyond repair, but still standing and still fightning, the only possible and aceptable outcome is the complete and Total Annihilation of the other.

If you're going to write a story with such a "deep" philosophical argument as the basis for conflict, perhaps it would be better to choose one where one side is not obviously correct. (Hint: life-extension is good. killing people for life-extension is bad. arguing against life-extension in general is, possibly, even worse.)

Well, it generally depends on what you have to do to gain said life extension. Fullmetal Alchemist comes to mind as a counter-example.

Something not being worth the cost is a completely different argument from something not being desirable at all.

Based on a certain story's plot/a post in the WBA:
Instead of taking up a certain Fallen's Coin... Harry Dresden instead finds Diablo's Soulstone.

It's a race against time as Diablo slowly possesses his host, and as the other Evils' Stones begin to find their own ways into the world...

I guess it'd be kind of funny for the Denarians: after being the foxes amongst the chickens for so long, they simply forget that wolves existed in their hubris.
