    Hang on - nothing about the Dark Lady requires that her agenda be Pureblood rule. If it's still James and Lily's child who is touched by Prophecy yet they're on the side of the Dark yet we are meant to identify said child as the hero of the story, it pretty much requires a different definition of belief systems.

    This could be an inventive inversion scenario; 'How would the Harry Potter have gone if the pureblood agenda was actually in the right?'- where inter-marrying with muggles was actually stripping each generation of power, and the best chance for humanity and magical society was to reduce/reuse/recycle. The death-eaters consume the magical dead hoping to collect their influence into themselves.

    Or to put it another way, what if the Mistress of Death was prophesied to kill a whole bunch of magical people, so that the children of those who survived would have a greater portion of the available magic?

    I'm pretty sure that the pureblood propaganda/agenda was that anyone who was not a pureblood, i.e. halfbloods and muggleborns, didn't deserve to have magic. It wasn't just about intermarriage with muggles, which rarely happened. Seamus Finnigan is one student who comes to mind with one magical and one muggle parent. And Voldemort too.

    Actually you're wrong, Half-Bloods were never persecuted, unless they were blood traitors. See Snape for examples.

    Hah, and the qualification for being a 'blood traitor' is, or can be, both subjective and flimsy!

    It is not that complicated, honestly. You're a blood traitor if you support muggleborn rights and if you're against blood purism.

    Half-bloods are never looked upon as equals by purebloods. They're, from the perspective of the bigots, the ones best suited for servitude, while the muggleborns are best suited for being exterminated. Maybe they don't get persecute to the extent of muggleborns, but once those vanish, for the most part, guess who's next on the hunting list?

    Fem!Draco/Harry. Fem!Voldemort.

    We'll call Fem!Voldemort a mundane first name too. Instead of Tom -- she's Elizabeth Riddle. (I can already see the reader's great distaste). No bullshit name for her; she either goes by the Dark Lady, My Lady, She Who Must Not be Named or, perhaps by Dumbledore or someone who knew her, Elizabeth Riddle.

    Fem!Draco -- let's call her Celeste, a name given by her astronomically-minded mother -- whose father and mother were killed by Voldemort, grows up unaware that Lucius/Narcissa were bad guys; she only knows that a dark witch slayed them when she was young. She's been raised by the Tonks family, and while she's fond of and well-loved by Andromeda, Ted and Dora, she doesn't get the answers about her parents she so craves. Come time for Hogwarts, she's been taught a fair bit (especially by Dora, who wants her to protect herself) but nothing more dangerous than a Tripping jinx. (Truthfully, they fear that she'll end up like her parents and don't want her to know much advanced magic.)

    Lucius did not want anyone within the Death Eaters to know that his wife was pregnant, but he was hoping for a proper heir to announce with pride in front of them. Only a few realize that Narcissa is pregnant -- Snape, who sees the change in Narcissa, and Bellatrix, who has been told by her sister -- and when Snape comes to an inner circle meeting to relay the prophecy to the Dark Lady, all three realize that, if the Malfoys were to have a girl, it could be their daughter that the prophecy speaks of. When she's born, Lucius has half a mind to kill her off to save them from the Dark Lady's wrath, but Narcissa steadfastly refuses and he gives in; they both go into hiding, knowing that Bellatrix will relay the information to the Dark Lady and Snape will always defend himself first and foremost.

    The Dark Lady chooses to attack the girl because the wording of the prophecy (and Snape's retelling of only half of it) left it so that she was unaware that neither shall die if the other lives. She only knew that the girl had a power she would desire, and her attempt to steal that power left her own powers destroyed for the time being. No one is sure what happened to her, but Dumbledore thinks she will rise again, though most of the public is either unsure or disbelieving.

    Celeste is sorted into Slytherin (to the Tonks family's great dread), following in her father's footsteps, and she begins to really struggle with disappointing the Tonks' and not really knowing why. She knows they are Pureblood, so why shoul they be upset she's placed with other Purebloods? Sure, Ted was Muggleborn, but that didn't mean she hated Muggles. Andromeda was in Slytherin, and she turned out fine, so why the distress? It perplexes her that everyone is afraid of something, and she knows it has to do with her parents.

    The Death Eater children in her house know the whole story of her parents death, and once they rib her a bit about it, Tracey Davis finally takes her aside and tells her the truth. Once she does realize what happened, she's not sure how to feel, except remorseful; she now understands why the Tonks' did not want her going to Slytherin. She begins to hate the fact that her parents were helping evil people, but most of all, she wants to understand why they did it. She also knows that her Head of House knew her father and mother personally, and she thinks he knows the answers to her questions, though she's too afraid to ask.

    She rises in some students' estimations because she is Pureblooded and, in addition to a rather sizeable trust fund at the present time, she will receive all of her parents' funds upon her seventeenth birthday. Other students like her because she saved them from the Dark Lady. Even more people envy her for all of it, though all she can remember is a green light and the screams of her mother.

    Thus, instead of being lauded by the public as the Chosen One who saved them from the Dark Lady, people are rather afraid she's the second coming of that same Dark Lady. Knowing that her parents were murdered by the Dark Lady does nothing to dissuade those that believe she's a dark witch too. After all, what kind of dark magic was cast to protect her? Of course, being placed in Slytherin just makes it worse.

    Harry, whose father and mother are still alive and have spoiled him rotten in the way rich, happy parents do, is sorted into Gryffindor along with the usual suspects. He grew up knowing plenty about the wizarding world (parallel with Draco, though he's nowhere near as pregidous as Draco was). He is as arrogant as his father, as he's amazingly gifted at Quidditch and not a bad wizard to boot. However, kids don't know his name when its mentioned (though a couple recognize his father for being higher up in the Ministry). His mother has become Potions' professor, and Snape teaches defense.

    Potentially a lot of room to have Harry and Lily's relationship develop, and he wouldn't be so poor in Potions. Of course, he'd hate being taught by Snape, though Snape actually increases his aptitude by forcing him to be better than the rest of the class. The rivalry between James and Snape is even worse than before, with the added hatred coming from James not really believing Snape is reformed and totally working with Dumbledore. He also knows that Snape cares for Lily, and the fact that his wife now works with Snape doesn't help.

    Sirius was Narcissa's secret keeper and was tortured to insanity for information. Bellatrix went to Azkaban because she, Rodolphus and Rabastan did it. Regulus turned on the Dark Lady per canon, but not until he blames himself for Bellatrix torturing Sirius.

    The Longbottoms are good friends of the Potters, though Harry doesn't really get on with Neville that well. He knows of the Weasleys, and he considers them good, if awfully odd, people. The Lovegoods, doubly so.

    Harry knows about Fem!Draco being the Girl Who Lived, but his attempt to meet her on the train to Hogwarts ends in him meeting Hermione, Ron and Neville, but Fem!Draco, being recognized by some of Slytherins, is already surrounded by people whereas no one really cares either way if he's there -- he's just a scrawny kid without a scar. How interesting could he possibly be?

    Harry develops a grudge over the length of first year -- everytime he does something of recognition, the Slytherin girl is lauded as the best instead. Lady Elizabeth (God, I love saying that now) who has taken over inside Professor Sinistra's skull, is caught talking to Snape by Celeste and she thinks Sinistra is trying to stop her Head of House from doing something bad.

    Harry is also convinced that Snape is up to no good, and repeated attempts to tell his mother only end up in her frustration, and once, when he brings it up in class with Slytherin, a detention. Celeste waits that night, until he's leaving detention, and corners him to ask him what he knows about the room on the third floor. To begin with, he doesn't want to tell her anything and moves to walk back to Gryffindor, but she stops him, explaining that she agrees with him about Snape...

    I somehow doubt Lily would allow any child of hers to grow up as arrogant as James initially was. Other than that, interesting stuff. Now go and write it.

    Yeah, but he would definitely be more arrogant than canon!Harry. I could imagine him having a lot more friends, being more relaxed around others (he's not famous) and spending more time being a kid. He would still be a lot more serious than James, but he'd have to do some growing up over the length of the fic.

    I thought it was a pretty decent outline for a long fic, but it would some hellishly difficult undertaking putting that much on paper convincingly.

    Not like being more arrogant than canon!Harry is an accomplishment. Just having the tiniest bit of arrogance would suffice. I'm probably simply not remembering Harry being arrogant. Cheeky, yes, that I remember ("There's no need to call me 'sir'"), but I can't honestly recall arrogant behavior.

    I've been reading the Wheel of Time series recently while reading some Harry Potter fanfiction and came up with a weird fusion. It would have Harry Potter characters in a fusion world and magical system.

    Ready for the mass text dump.

    ----

    It has always been known that there were two sides of magic. Saidar, the female half and Saidin, the male half. Women, using Saidar, tended to be good at charms, earth and water based magics and healing, while men, using Saidin, were better at fire, wind, offensive magics. This did not mean women or men could not their other half; talented wizards and witches could tap into the other half.

    When the Age of Legends came, two wizards and two witches became heroes. Not only were the two women powerful in Saidar and the two men in Saidin, they also had incredible abilities to tap into their other half. They made wonders no one had ever seen before with Hogwarts, a place of learning, being the greatest building ever designed.

    However, something happened after the creation of Hogwarts. No one knew the details, but the four wizards and witches split and tensions rose. Armies were built, cities destroyed and millions died. The age of legends was over, and the breaking of the world had begun.

    Magic unseen but felt swept across the world. Horrible monsters appeared where peace had reigned for thousands of years. In the end, all four founders were dead and a great evil had been unleashed from the pits of hell. Saidin had been tainted, and all male wizards began to go insane. By the end of the breaking, accessing the male side of the source was punishable by death and a prophecy about the end of the great evil was heard.

    The ages pass as the wheel turns. Women gaining power throughout the realms. While Hogwarts still caters to both male and female wizards (with males forbidden to access Saidin, but if able, allowed to use Saidar), it is the females that rule the magical world. It is they that watch the wizards, making sure that they are unable to access Saidin and if they do, they will still them (make them unable to use their magic forever). The Headmaster is always a woman, while the deputy is a male to handle the wizards.

    Albus Dumbledore is a powerful wizard in his own right, he had the ability to use more Saidar than most wizards but pales in comparison to most females, let alone the Headmistress McGonagall. However, he is still brilliant and sees that the prophecy is about to take hold of the world once again. Voldemort is the first line.

    Voldemort had been a powerful student as well, but at a young age, had the ability to access Saidin. He had hid it for a number of years and trained in secret and once the school found out, planned to still him. He fled and gained power. With both sides of magic, he was unbeatable. Hundreds of witches died before his power. He gained armies and crushed kingdoms... and disappeared to a couple with a young child named Harry Potter.

    Harry Potter was average, he grew up in a small town far away from any kingdom. He had been adopted by a wonderful family and did not even know it. This was his world, until he was found by the magical scouts and forced into Hogwarts. He meets Ron, a fun loving guy who has a knack for strategy, Neville: a guy good at the quarterstaff, Ginny and Hermione, two extremely powerful saidar users and Daphne, the next in line to rule a kingdom. They grow together, learn to trust each other and become friends. Then, Voldemort attacks, Harry channels... and the world is changed forever.

    Harry is the dragon reborn, the one the prophecies talk about. He will break the world and rebuild it. It will be him to defeat the great unknown evil. It will be him to get the wizards to once again tap into Saidin and build an army for himself... As the Slytherins try to still or kill him, unable to trust a male that can touch Saidin... He must be under their control.

    ----

    So, instead of Ajah's of red, green, blue, etc. When a child becomes a full witch or wizard, they can join Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.
    - Slytherin would be similar to the Red Ajah and the Gray. They specialize in keeping males from accessing Saidin, tend not to have warders as well as love politics.
    - Gryffindor is green. Battle Ajahs, lots of warders.
    - Hufflepuff would be yellow and blue. Healing, peacekeeping.
    - Ravenclaw would be brown and white. Logic, knowledge...

    In Wheel Of Time, males cannot access Saidar, but I want magic and Hogwarts, so I changed it so women have so much Saidar they can access as well as Saidin and vice versa. (Think like 80% of their magic is Saidar, with 20% being Saidin) With the taint in Saidin, women can no longer access Saidin and it is forbidden for males to do so. Wizards are much weaker, as they can only access the small bit of Saidar (so around 20% compared to the females 80%). The males trained, tend to end up as Warders for the females. This means males are trained in sword fighting and other arts.

    Voldemort would not be the big bad. Just an awful dude who went crazy accessing Saidar. We would not realize this until after Voldemort is defeated. There is something lurking behind him, something much, much worse. We could always turn Voldemort into a Forsaken as well, with Bellatrix and the others. (Bellatrix as Lanfear, haha).

    Obviously you can do what you want as both worlds contain so much awesomeness. I was thinking the cast of characters could easily work like.

    Harry = Rand/The Dragon Reborn.
    Ron = Mat
    Neville = Perrin
    Ginny = Egwene
    Daphne = Elayne
    Hermione = Nynaeve
    Fleur = Aviendha

    I could go on, but this would be an epic and long story with thousands of small details.

    How abhorrent. I despise any gender disparity in HP fanfics, always have, especially since it makes no sense that one gender could or should rule/lord over the other, since they both happen to have magic.

    Granted, the males are handicapped in this particular plot bunny setting, but still...

    Not saying it wouldn't make for an interesting read though.

    Your snippet with the Wheel of Time reminds of how well I always thought the Lews Therin dynamic would work. Harry has a fragment of Voldemort's soul. A piece of an insane dark lord that lost his humanity a long time ago. I think it would work great, Voldemort influencing harry, his insanity corrupting him and his grabs for control of Harry's power and body.

    I originally came up with this idea where I was going to use this Lews/Rand dynamic with Harry/Voldemort, only it would have been set in many years before the Kingkiller Chronicles, during the time of Lanre, when Myr Tariniel stood proud and strong. It would of been a story of Lanre's fall, with Harry being Lanre. Only instead of mastering Voldemort like Rand did Lews, Harry falls and becomes Haliax.

    Is that an intentional WoT/Kingkiller/HP tricross, or did you accidentally add one too many fandoms in there?

    No. I just would've modeled the Harry/Voldemort interaction after the Rand/Lews dynamic. Just like swim used the idea of abhorsen bells to model necromancy.

    Short Bunny of the Day.

    During Year 5, Harry, Hermione, Ron, Draco, Nott and Pansy all somehow end up being sent to the Aveyond universe shortly before the Lord of Twilight plot begins. They appear near the Kingdom of Thais.

    Would not require any knowledge of the Aveyond universe, as the reader would discover it just as the Potterverse folks do.

    What if Muggleborns were actually inferior to Pure Bloods?

    Consider an AU in which wizards and witches of pure blood are normal at magic, half-bloods are only 3/4 as good and muggleborns are only half as good.

    I'm not talking about 'power levels' or an 'amount of magic' but rather the inherent inborn ability.

    For example, in this universe if you took one of each group to cast a Stunner at a cow, the pure blood would cast a perfect spell and stun the cow, the half-blood would cast a moderate stunner and the cow would only be stunned for a few moments at best, while the muggleborn would cast a very weak stunner and the cow would only become drowsy.

    An AK cast by someone of pure blood would kill, AK cast by a half-blood would send you into a coma and AK cast by a muggleborn could be blocked with a Protego.

    The only areas in which muggleborns could be good is potions, history of magic, etc. Things that don't require actual spells.

    So what are the effects of such a change? Well, let's try to figure out.

    Not only do the Blood Purists get a massive boost to their cause, they are actually made somewhat correct: muggleborns are weaker and inferior to 'true' pure blooded wizards.

    Imagine Snape being magically inferior to James Potter no matter how hard he learns and imagine Lily Evans being incapable of controlling accidental magic like she could in canon.

    Of course, this means that Tom Marvolo Riddle is also magically inferior to true pure bloods, being only a half-blood himself. Still, his Slytherin heritage is not for nothing and he does get his parselmouth abilities as well as a small boost to his magical talent (that is, he's a prodigy among half-bloods, making him almost equal to pure bloods).

    Voldemort got more supporters than in canon and his quest was more effective, especially considering that his followers were stronger than the followers of the other side. While the Dark Lord still lost due to Harry's mother sacrificing herself and all that, the Wizarding Britain was left considerably more damaged and changed.

    Think about Hermione Granger studying as hard as possible and still being worse at magic than Crabbe or Goyle. Hell, Harry would be worse than Ron.

    Lockhart would not have his fake fame, nobody would believe that a half-blood could do all these things!

    Yeah, that's an unfair and very bleak world, but so what, not all AU's have to be pink and roses. Plus it makes Harry's quest that much harder and therefore interesting.

    The explanation sounds like power levels to me.

    I'm of the Taure school of magic in this instance. Where incantation, wand movement, and intention result in the quality of the spell. There would be mitigating circumstances that might play into the end effect, but that's it. If you screw up any of of the three big ones then the spell comes out less effective or outright fails.

    I could see purebloods working with their children before school started so there would be an uneven playing field at the beginning of their schooling, but by third year or so, everything would balance out... generally.

    I'm actually also of the Taure School of Magic.

    It is just in this particular AU, half-bloods and muggleborns are inherently talentless at magic, no matter how hard they try.

    In real life, we have people who are naturally talented singers and those who suck at singing no matter what. This is what I was talking about.

    To simplify: Purebloods are Opera Singers, Half-Bloods are Katy Perry, Muggleborns are Justin Bieber and Muggles are mute.
