frodrick: retcons ftw. Nobody is supposed to be able to see through the cloak. JKR is just stupid.

When was it again that Dumbledore saw through the cloak? Because I remember Rowling saying something about him knowing Harry was there thanks to a silent Homenum Revelio.

The other person to look through the cload was Moody (Crouch Jr) right? Was that ever actually proven? I vaguely remember Harry only thinking Moody could see through it, but that's it. Maybe he didn't see anything at all or simply saw something, like a shimmer of light, but not Harry under a cloak.

Moody (Crouch Jr.) pretty clearly saw Harry in book 4. We don't know if Dumbledore can actually see Harry or if he used that spell, but the cloak is supposed to be immune to all forms of magical detection (iirc). If not, how is it any better than a regular invisibility cloak?

In the end it's just a very well made magical artifact. So it's possible even stronger magic can out do it, like how Crouch was able to trick the Goblet of Fire. Moody's eye seems pretty special too. Or maybe the cloak simply really isn't all that different from a normal cloak. The Elder Wand also only has one real advance over all other wands after all.

We know that the cloak has lasted for centuries, which is unique, and probably is more resiliant than normal cloaks, as it's still in top condition. It can't be summoned and is large enough to almost completely cover to grown adults. All of that already makes it a unique and quiete powerful artifact, even if it's greatest unique power lies mostly in its resilience.

But compared to the other two artifacts...not really all that impressive, if everyone can see through it. It doesn't even get any respect in canon; it just gets left behind several times, Snape steals it, etc.

Hence, the Plot Bunny, which lets the Cloak be something cool and unique instead of a normal invisibility cloak with the extended warrenty.

Not everyone can see through it. Moody was probably the only one and he had a magical eye, which might have well been unique. Otherwise Harry probably wouldn't have been so sure it was his, when he found it in Umbridge's door.

Or let Moody's eye be something extraordinarily unique. So much so that it can circumnavigate the Cloak.

Like, it being the eye of the three Gray Sisters. (The Fate's eye in Hercules.)

The story of Moody winning the magical eye and consequently losing his old, normal eye would be amazing.

    edit: partly ninja-ed.

Alright so someone has definitely thought of this before but I would love to see something where Harry being the master of death ties in with the Black Lantern Corps. Maybe have Harry form the Black Lantern Corps or have him be the Black Lantern Corps' version of Ion.
I just thought that it would be interesting especially considering the whole DC reboot going on at the moment.

Edit: Sorry about the ninja edit. I was typing this on my iPhone and accidentally posted it

When would people realize that fake!Moody was able to see through Harry's cloak only because he's a Time Lord? *sigh*
Leaving the cloak behind multiple times is just Harry's idiocy.

    @Chriar:
Another possibility if you're well-versed in it would be the magical "starheart" Green Lantern Ring.
Premise can be something like, a normal human (muggle) Alan Scott wielded it and kicked seven kind of ass, what would happen if a true wizard gained control of it?

Another idea on my mind since that mention of an epic cross-author work; Eldergod!slave!Harry, in a setup similar to how the Summer/Winter Knights work in DF-
namely that he does the bidding of an ancient and far more powerful figure than any individual human and in return keeps his sanity and whatever boost in his own powers as required.

His mission is to go forth and round up the rogue High Old Ones like Cthulhu who have refused to answer the call to awaken, but the problem is that they dwell in dimensions bordering the realm of human knowledge, just slightly beyond it where everything else that's faded from memory or faith goes to.

In the process of shipping said HOO back to wherever the hell it comes from, more things are stirred up and spread back across the worlds of knowledge, too many for Harry to capture before they start sending things into chaos before the time for that or otherwise setting up shop for their own power.

He sets out to round up a small troop of various Harry's and maybe one or two Neville's that were also Chosen One's and lived whatever sort of life as required to have a skill set to tackle the thing released and residing on or near their world.

All this talk about a new Nike shoes got me thinking - I've never seen any HP/Back To The Future crossover.

Consider this - between his 5th and 6th year at Hogwarts, Harry meets Emmett Brown, seemingly crazy American, who recently moved into house not far from Dursley's home. After a little accident in Doc's lab and quick help from Harry, the two of them become friends.

Harry is fascinated by the possibility of making time travel without using magic. He helps Doc prepare for his first trip to the past, but unfortunately, they're interrupted by Libyan terrorists (from whom Doc was trying to escape by moving into England) and in the end it's Harry who ends in the past. Or more exactly - in 1980. Now he not only needs to find a way back, but see if he can change the past for better.

Because it's BTTF, I see this crossover as humorous story, not a serious one.

Didn't think of that, but if someone really wanted to do this then there is only one way to do it properly. ;)

First off, lemme say that has the potential for lulz aplenty. The BTTF trilogy is still one of the funniest movies, and is essentially crack on film.

My preference, though, would be for it to be Harry Dresden as the one sent back. He's more of a wiseass like Marty McFly, and the Americanisms and rock and roll aspects would be right up his alley. Dresden could run into a younger Eb, and I imagine Momma Dresden was not only hot (hello, married a White Court vamp), but I bet she was a real kinky bitch if her Winter alliances are any clue.

Of course, with HP we get Lily the redhead, but whatever. I've seen HP/Lily smut - one thing I've never seen is Dresden/his mom.

God, but that's funny. It's just as funny - maybe more so - now than when I first saw it.

    Well done!

I would fucking love to see a decent Harry Potter/Corpse Bride crossover.

Hmm...has to marry Ginny for 'political' reasons, ends up marrying an undead...uh, Tonks? Fleur? Hermione? I'unno. Or, throwing something random out there, Lavender, Rosmerta or...Rita Skeeter.

Oh, and fix the fucking ending so that (unlike Victor with Victoria), he wouldn't go off with skank!Ginny.

I don't know if anyone had already suggested this, but what I would like to see is a Harry Potter/Dexter crossover.

Of course, I wouldn't want any of the characters from Dexter to be in the story, but having a nicely done sociopath!Harry would great.

Think about, just like in Dexter, Harry watched his mother die in front of him. Even though he was only one at the time, you could make some excuse like 'magic' or something about why it affected him.

Harry could be killing people in Hogwarts or Hogsmede with Snape or Dumbledore always on his tail. No one would suspect him because he's the 'Boy Who Lived'. James would take the role as Harry, with Hermione being his Deb.

Even if it couldn't become a whole story, a one-shot would be awesome.
