Also the Dumbledore/Luna getting possessed totally reminded me of Queens of Darkness, Ladies of Light. Which, as Rin says, breaks the whole thing unless you go super!Harry or use some equivalent plot device.

I could sort of see it work if it was done in the style of Dead Beat and Kemmler's students. Have them all working against each other, with their own interests, and have Harry stuck in the middle of the whole mess.

That being said, the idea has many other problems, the most obvious being the blatant Ginny hate.

I wonder if anyone's actually done a DarkLady!Luna, or a DarkLady/Lord!secondary character story with Harry in the middle of it?

    Hell, DarkLady!Fleur would be hilarious.

    The closest I've seen to a Dark!Luna is Twelve Dark Moons. And a vampire!Luna one-shot, I suppose.

I'd actually like to see someone play this straight as a test of their skill as a fanfic-writer, in the same vein as Jim Butcher did to make Codex Alera (IIRC, a fan challenged him to write a story using the premise of the 9th Legion and Pokemon, so he did).

Incidentally, here in Florida, we had a housewife who got sick of politics-as-usual run for a state congressional seat and win with little more than 5,000 dollars (≈ £3,124). That district had more people in it than all the wizards of the UK combined.

Even if Molly Weasley could manage to get enough donations totaling 580 galleons ( × 5 = £2900 ≈ 5,000 dollars in Sept. of 1991), then with a lot of elbow grease (and we know she's got plenty of that), she could theoretically do it.

Molly weasley as minister would make for a terrifyingly authoritarian government.

Especially if she runs on the slogan 'It's for the children!', which works far to well in real life and would probably send the wizarding world into a pro-Weasley frenzy.

^ This. When I suggested it, I had the image of Mollywobbles sitting at a desk looking over the Hogwarts curriculum and thinking 'No no no, they are FAR to young to be doing this kind of magic!'. I suppose her motivation could be a disagreement with Dumbledore over Harry's role in the war. Harry tells her that he's sorry but there isn't really anything she can do to stop him and he HAS to do this. Molly gets the idea of 'We'll see about that!' into her head.

I'm not going to write it, so it's up for grabs to anyone that wants to. Put it up as a TGYH challenge with the line 'Molly Weasley - Minister of Magic' if you'd like, it might get a response there and I doubt this could be more then a oneshot. I'd post it, but I don't have the time to write a challenge at the moment.

    Hi,

I'm currently writing a fic where Harry is adopted the after that Halloween night, I'm trying to keep it legimate as possible and canon wise, and on the "What if" chance Petunia/Dudley wasn't there for the blood wards/protection, so Dumbledore enlists a light-family to raise him, and tries to get the best possible outcome for him, so I figure he'd want a good-sided family who wouldn't use Harry's fame, and perhaps one with a child already for a chance of Harry having an older brother/sister to look up to.

So I'm wondering if I could get an opinion on who sounds better out of the Bones, the Diggorys or the Tonks', they all have advantages/disadvantages for a story but I was hoping for an opinion or two. :)

Longbottom. That way you can have a twisted perversion of the WBWL cliche, and potential for a half-decent story.

Well, you could always have Hepziah Smith and Zacharias Smith (Hufflepuff dude) be a descendant of Helga Hufflepuff. A Light/Neutral family that adopts Harry.

I'm not sure if Hepziah had any heirs when Tom Riddle offed her.

Zacharias Smith might be unrelated (as Smith is a common name).

True. I supposing he could just make/force the connection. Haven't seen that done anyway nor any canon evidence to dispute the claim. /shrug

Thanks to this I got the idea of writting Harry as Dumbledore's mini-me, complete with white beard and purple robes.

You know why this question is stupid? It is exactly like
except for asking for pairing suggestions, you're asking for adoptive families. You know what? At this point, we couldn't really care less. It is your story, and if you at this point can't even be fucked to figure something out that will define the rest of your story, why should we do your work for you?

Presumably, you choose Diggory, that would mean will grow up educated and raised by purebloods. He will know exactly why he is famous, and as the Diggorys are apparently somewhat sociable, he will also be exposed to it early on in his life.
Next to that, he will grow up with a brother 3 years his senior. If we can make any assumptions about him, he's quite a Quidditch fan, so Harry will know that already as well. Will he know how to fly already before he comes to Hogwarts? Will he have realized his potential skill? Also, judging by book 4, we can see that the Diggorys (especially Amos) do recognize him as a celebrity himself. Will that affect him/his early education/his mindset?

Take the Tonks'. With them, he will grow up immersed both in the Muggle and the Wizarding World. The Tonks are definitely less sociable than the Diggorys are, so maybe Harry will, while knowing of his status, not actually be confronted with those people that really want to know him and shake his hand just because he is Harry Potter?
Also, he will have a sister seven years older than he is. That means she will be going to Hogwarts, and thus not around beginning when he is like 3, and graduate the year Harry attends first year. What will that mean? Will Harry develop some sort of hero-worship for his 'big sis', because he never really got to get to know her, and can only form his image of her from everything her parents and friends tell her?

The Bones. Biggest question: why? They are hardly a functional family. From canon, we can assume that Susan's parents were killed in the First War as well. Does Amelia really have the time to look after two kids instead of one, while being an auror?

Same with Longbottom. Parents in St. Mungus. Only a grandmother left. Is she really as authoritarian as shown in the early books? Would that have the same effect on Harry as it did on Neville before he grew a pair?

All those thoughts that I just wrote down should have been yours, and you really should not be asking for them, because in the end, it is your story, and is your work to do. Not ours. Figure out what you want to achieve, where you want the story to go, and then ask for feedback. Not the other way around.

Problem with this idea is essentially 'Why?' - where's the strife? It's like a challenge or mission statement, it isn't actually a plot bunny. It's a 'What If' without any story to it. What would be the consequences of being raised by a light family and why is it interesting?

Molly-for-Minister! is something I'd really, really like to see written seriously. So many fics have Arthur as the Order's nominee... why? So he could install plugs in all of the Ministry offices? Have an unconnected fellytone on his desk for no reason? Work on flying cars from the comfort of the Minister's chair? The man is beyond useless, and Dumbledore would be well aware of the fact.

Molly's a Bellatrix-slaying lioness. Obviously the problem for her would be that her family's viewed as blood-traitors, and she'd have to battle through that sort of prejudice to get into office. I can seriously see that being a fucking awesome bit of fic, especially if done in the background to a greater plot.

    Don't fucking remind me...

I seem to have lost the plot a bit because I have no idea when this fic would be set. If can't be pre-Second War. I could either see it happening in an Of Blacks and Malfoys setting, where both sides, knowing their own candidates can't win elect the weakest official possible who they think they can twist (she is pure-blood enough yet has liberal leanings, though those may not be as apparent pre-Voldemort), or post-Battle of Hogwarts.

The problem is you're gonna either need to alter Molly and give her a job, preferably a low ranking one, or you're gonna have to kill off a lot of fucking people to even get her in the running. But in that situation her being a blood traitor is irrelevant, seeing as most of the wizarding elite was complicit in Voldie's little genocide, or did jack to stop it. The outcome of the BoH practically destroyed the political power of most if not all Pureblood house, and there would probably be a cataclysmic shift (which is why I always thought the next Minister after Thicknesse would be a Muggle-born).
