Had an idea a while back for a kind of HP/Final Destination crossover with a noir/1920s detective film feel to it. Now I've found other ideas to pursue and have basically lost the muse that brought this up in the first place, so I'm putting it up for adoption. It's in spoilers for those who don't want details.

This is very much a character piece, since the way I see it is as Harry's gradual descent into madness and obsession, which isn't easy to write and focuses less on the outside world and more on what's making Harry tick.

The basic idea was that after Harry becomes an Auror he is persuaded into taking up the Elder Wand and Resurrection Stone (because damn if they wouldn't be useful for any Auror). With the Hallows united and Harry being the talented dueller that he is, he quickly becomes one of the top detectives the Aurors have. After all, being able to ask murder victims who killed them would be bloody handy.

After say twenty years or so of doing the job (and being near enough ready to take over the department, once the Head retires) his life has melted away beneath him. Ginny either died or left him (my first thought was left him after their first and only child was murdered by random psycho #5873) and Harry sunk himself into his work because of it. After this he starts hating dark wizards in general, rather than just the Death Eaters that were the bane of his teenage years.

A while later he started using alcohol as a crutch, eventually becoming an alcoholic. Shit got bad for a while but eventually his friend/co-worker (and eventual love interest - I chose Susan Bones because of her aunt and her being a redhead) drags him out of it, her falling in love with him but not vice versa.

Come the start of the story Harry detests dark wizards (murderers especially) with a passion, to the point where he's wishing death on them, though he hasn't crossed the line and killed anyone, the Elder Wand and his skill with non-lethal spells being enough to subdue any and all opponents. Then Lucius Malfoy dies in a bizarre, fatal accident. None of the Aurors can find any trace of a killer, and even Malfoy himself has no idea what happened, so they put it down to an accident.

A while, and a bunch of crap with his ex-wife, later Harry's back to hating the world again. Then another former Death Eater dies in an accident. Again, nobody finds evidence of a killer, but there is some suspicion now. Then another dies and Harry is put on the case of finding this killer.

Harry gradually becomes obsessed with this killer, to the point where he's letting everything else fall to the wayside. This killer is mocking him, defying Harry to find him, and he's doing it without leaving any evidence behind. Harry is sure that these accidents have been orchestrated by someone and it's driving him insane not being able to find out who it is. Another Death Eater dies. Harry begins drinking again.

Susan, who has been pretty obsessed with Harry over the course of the story, though only in the background, tries to drag him out of it again but fails and Harry falls further into obsession. When the frustration becomes too much Harry gets drunk and vents some of it through sex with Susan, using her and discarding her in a cycle of depression and anger. During his bouts of sobriety he begins to hate himself for it, a remnant of his old self asserting itself.

Eventually this causes him to be 'suspended', for his own good, but he refuses to give up the case and works on it through Susan in his spare time.

Finally, something begins to make sense to Harry's rapidly unravelling mind. Whenever Harry himself had felt particularly hateful towards a person/group, someone would die. End of the story approaches and Harry realises that the killer was himself, he being the Master of Death and Death listening to his call.

Cue the final scene where Harry has a drink in hand and his wand in the other, and I have no idea what he would choose.

I had a suggestion for the Minister Molly idea. She takes extremely drastic measures against Death Eaters, which while effective, creates a government nearly as oppressive as the Voldemort run Ministry.

She tries to weed out corruption within the Ministry but finds this an almost impossible task. The only major change she is able to make is the formation of a volunteer militia. Voldemort considers this a joke, until she uses her new private army to seize complete control of the Ministry of Magic and abolishes the Wizengamot. Ministry workers who refuse to sign a loyalty contract are fired and then interrogated with Veritaserum to discover if the have any loyalty to Voldemort. Anyone who fails the interrogation is either imprisoned or killed and their property confiscated. All known Death Eater fugitives also have their wealth seized. The militia is authorized to use lethal force against anyone suspected of supporting Riddle.

After her new Ministry succeeds in killing Tommy-boy or at least destroying his current body and forcing him back to a spectre, her popularity is at an all time high. Her oppressive methods are used to prevent behavior which she disapproves of.

Dumbledore tries to restrain her, but she refused to listen to him. He even begins to suspect that the Dark Lord Harry is supposed to deal with wasn't Riddle at all, but Molly. Dumbledore's death could be the spark that causes her to go into tyrant mode in which case Dumbledore's portrait could still express disapproval of her actions but be helpless to stop them.

I should probably forget about this and go to sleep but....

To cope with Sirius's death Harry gets addicted to playing Minecraft, when he returns back in sixth year, he brings the Minecraft virus with him.

    Ron -> Giant chessboard
    Hermione -> Giant Library
Voldemort? -> A world without mudbloods??? Asking for a mod???

I am sure one can think of a lot more.

In case you did not figure it out yet,

    CRACK FIC

Can be made into awesomeness if done by the right guy.

A somewhat hackneyed way to get a Dark Lord Molly:

Ginny forgot her diary on the way to the train station at the end of the summer before she started at Hogwarts. Unfortunately, as late as they were, Arthur hadn't the time to turn around and get it. Distraught, Ginny attends Hogwarts without it. Molly, however, discovers the diary in the girl's room and finds herself distracted every time she thinks to send it off to the girl. In time, threads of magic worm their way into her head and she falls under its subtle charms, thus setting into motion an entirely different set of events.

Yep; even though he used Ginny like a puppet, his ultimate goal was to steal her life energy and use it as a fuel to return [his 16 year old self] to life.

Molly would be no different, ultimately.

Because no one wants to read a story just about Molly trying to conquer the Wizarding World and becoming evil on her own.

    Dear Lord, the angst.

Even with all those incredible plots posted in the last two pages, I wouldn't actually want to read them unless it was written in someone else's POV.

    Needs more DarkLady!Fleur/Lavender/Katie. :awesome

But yeah, it'd take a great writer to pull some of these plots off properly.

I think this is a plot bunny, although it might class as a "what if"

Basically when Harry is at Mrs. Figgs he accidently finds a copy of the Daily Prophet.

    Going from there.

Alright I've had an AU World plot bunny assault my mind tirelessly for the past few days. I even had the prologue written out and posted called "Words" under the HP WBA section. I just felt I wanted to get a feel of people's reaction to the general story before jumping headlong into it.

Hogwarts doesn't induct its students at 11, they wait until they are 14. The reason being that muggle-borns are tracked at age 11, taken from their families whose memories are entirely modified and "re-educated" for three years before school starts for them. It is a blood-classist society, but one that regards muggle-borns as necessary for their continued survival.

The Wizarding World is a very different place. Voldemort never "fell" permanently on the Halloween of 1981. In fact Voldemort never managed to unleash a reign of terror as terrible as it was in Canon because he was curbed every step of the way.

The Headmaster is Albus Dumbledore and he is the reason everything is different. Dumbledore is insane and not senile old man insane, fucking batshit crazy insane. He's transformed Hogwarts from a 'school' into a madhouse bordering prison. "Perceptum vel intereo" is the school motto, "learn or die". Its either learn to survive, through classes, Quidditch, teachers, peers and so on or die along the way. Hogwarts has a pretty high death count.

Harry Potter was raised by his parents. He had a normal enough childhood except his mother wasn't a sweet, loving, Saint!Lily and his father wasn't a fun-loving Marauder who never grew up. He still is the Boy-Who-Lived. His family has been on the run for a long time because they don't agree with Dumbledore's rule nor with Voldemort's. He was instilled with one redeeming quality above and beyond it all: everyone deserves a chance. This is one ideal that is drilled into his head by his mother and he lives by it. Coming to Hogwarts when Dumbledore finally catches up with his parents, he is flabbergasted because its essentially Martial Law.

Dumbledore takes an unnatural interest in him. Harry is still the prophesised one, the one who will vanquish the Dark Lord. He wants to train him up in a very unique way.

    But Harry doesn't agree.

He has Dumbledore's madness to contend with on one side, Voldemort's obsession with him on the other. The state of the students at Hogwarts which is pitiable at best. Harry calls it 'torture' and Dumbledore calls it 'roughhousing'.

It is an AU of how Harry grows and learns to be the Chosen One while fighting Voldemort's repeated advances to make him join the Death Eaters, while at the same time, trying to save Hogwarts and his imprisoned family from Dumbledore.

Oh and did I mention? Both Voldemort and Dumbledore are Immortals. Dumbledore isn't evil, he doesn't want Harry dead. He just has a very misguided outlook on what is right (This isn't going to be a different version of Partially-Kissed Hero). Voldemort does want Harry dead ultimately but is willing to settle with making him a Death Eater.

Halfway through the story, Harry manages to escape Hogwarts with those students who are trying to get away.

He has three choices: Join Voldemort and try to instill changes in the New Rule that Voldemort advocates, keep with Dumbledore and try to survive in society as it is or make a third option for himself and his friends.

I know its farfetched, but believe it or not I do have a rough outline and I was wondering if anyone would like to go through it with me and solidify it? I realise that this kind of story has all the spaces for epic-fail, and this being my first fanfiction isn't exactly reassuring, but I still want to try.

    So...Thoughts?

    I'm ready to read that.

Only thing is that I'd recommend having Harry trying to unravel how Voldemort and Dumbledore obtained immortality, you get a pretty unique and potentially dark mystery plot thread from that and the actual answer could be interesting stuff (like Dumbledore doing some fucked up shit to Fawkes in order to assimilate the phoenix property of immortality).

You have the advantage that people will assume that both are using Horcruxes, but if you have something creative in mind you can surprise everyone.

Oh I have plans for their immortality and how they came by it. Big plans. Big, scary plans that aren't rooted around cutting pieces of one's soul and putting it in freaking tiaras.

I'm all for achieving Immortality through the Old Ways. The idea I came up with is rooted in Hindu mythology. I don't want to give it away, but suffice is to say that its...unconventional, at least I haven't come across anyone else ever using it.

Pretty cool idea. At first it reminded me of Prince of the Dark Kingdom, but it's actually quite different. I read your prologue and it was pretty decent, but I'm wondering if you're going to start the story there or at an earlier time (while his family is still on the run, perhaps, or maybe when he starts Hogwarts?)

I have already planned on killing Arthur in my ongoing story...and now I think I might adapt the Political!Molly into it. Maybe not going the entire way to Minister but...who knows? Thanks for the brilliant idea DLP.
