You'll want a standard Nintendo DS for most of the upcoming games. If you're only going to be really playing pokemon I wouldn't bother buying any of the later ds models or even a slim.

And make sure you pick up a flashcard.

    Honestly? DS Lite.

It's not the newest DS system, but it sits well in the hands (i.e. not bulky and obtuse like the first DS), but still has the slot for GBA cartridges so you can port pokemon from R/S/E over into D/P/Pt/HG/SS (as opposed to the DSi and DSi XL).

However, B/W won't have GBA compatibility, so I guess it depends on whether you want to kickstart your pokemon gaming with HG/SS for another 8 or so months before B/W becomes available in the English-speaking community, and whether you want to keep the options for porting your pokemon from GBA over open.

If you're just going to wait on B/W, or don't particularly care about GBA compatibility, just get a DSi. However, I do recommend getting used to the gameplay before jumping right into Black/White, so even if you don't want to pick up HG/SS, at least try out an emulator to get 'back in the game', so to speak.

    In short.

Under no circumstances should you get an original NDS system (unless you really don't want to spend an extra few bucks on a newer system). Not only is it heavy and unwieldy, but the screen was pretty damn dark even in its fledgling days. I can only imagine how dark currently running NDS screens are.

EDIT: Loki beat me to it, lol

Oh look, another bandwagon nostalgiafag trying to troll the discussion. Never get tired of seeing this over and over again.

...In other news, Serebii is now claiming the starter evolutions aren't fake again. They say there's only a slim chance they're not real. Thoughts on the starters?

Personally if these are real then I'd be pleased with the grass but the fire looks so disappointingly retarded that I'm not sure the other two would make up for it. What's with pokémon and making the starters arbitrarily bipedal?

Pretty much agree. The fire guy also looks like it has a chance for being fire/fighting in its final stage. Again. Third generation in a row. Goddammit.

Also, the jump between the water starter's second and third is jarring to me, even for a series that gave us a fish evolving into a freaking octopus...

Why you hating on my beliefs, TSK? What did Straight Edge do to you? Let me save you from your problems. Let Straight Edge make you a better person. :D

Meh. As far as I'm concerned the game ended with Red as the Pokemon Master. I don't really hate on the other games, but I just never liked them. Still, Black/White is looking pretty sweet, I'll give you that.

Thanks Lutris, you convinced me to eventually get a lite.

Yeah, I preferred the original generation too, the ones after just seem to get sillier and sillier. And the games way too complicated for min/maxing.

I want a pure Ice type that doesnt blow absolute dick for once.

You. Apologize to Glaceon. Right now.

Top-notch Sp Atk + Ice Beam = loldragon

Not to mention when in Hail conditions, 100% hitrate Blizzard will utterly rape a lot of things.

So Weekly Famitsu magazine (one of the leading video game mags in Japan) hosts reviews of upcoming games every issue.

This week, they scored Pokemon Black and White with a perfect score of 40 out of 40 .

That is pretty cool. For comparison, I'll add that Diamond and Pearl got 35/40, Platinum got 36/40 and HeartGold and SoulSilver got 37/40. Note that the score seems to get higher as time goes on, and I think it's great that the guys up top are constantly polishing the games on the DS, even just a little bit. Black and White must have some decent polish as well as being something new-ish to the franchise.

    This.

What is this, only the tenth game they've ever given a perfect score to? They're basically saying it's equivalent to Ocarina of Time, ffs. These could turn out to be the best games in the series.

They've been giving out a lot more 40s recently, but it still means something.

Apparently, that is from Serebii but the guy I got it from didn't post a link. It'd be interesting though if it was true. It'll be the first pure flying type in the entire series. Some of the new type combinations are fucking epic.

That's on the main page of Serebii. There was also some information from the same guy which stated some things like several of the gym types and that there won't be any previous pokémon's pre/evolutions in this game, not even Mamanbou. The link to that I can't find, though...

    Edit:

And then the oddest pokémon of them all, Munna, was born. A chunky pokémon with a pink floral pattern. Coincidence?
