You guys do realize that the day they actually make a legitimate Pokemon MMO for whatever the new Gameboy of the time is, is the day that our civilization ends, right?

I'll never work again. I'll never sleep again. When I run out of ramen and Oreos, I don't think I'll ever eat again.

Nintendo's saving a hand held / console-based pokemon MMO until the Wii UU or whatever. That's their trump card in the wings.

As for metagames, I literally don't play OU/Ubers anymore. Black and White pretty much annihilated any fun I had in OU. Of course, my OU team uses UU/NU from Gen IV, so naturally, it's super frustrating to fight Latios and other 600+ BST pokemon with fucking Muk, Crobat, and Drapion. There are pokemon now that are so good at what they do, they pretty much invalidate a huge number of otherwise perfectly good pokemon.

That would be why we have tiers. There's a reason UU/NU pokemon aren't seen much in the OU scene, because there are other pokemon that fill the same role and do it better.

Personally, I think there's a ton of UU pokemon which are viable in OU. But as you go further down, the use basically becomes more and more specialized.

I.E. Having real troubles with Terrakion? Consider a Tangrowth. Need a fast spiker? Consider an Accelgor or a Froslass. Need a powerful wall that doesn't die to fire moves and can wall some fighting hits? Heatproof Bronzong.

Hell, as many of you know, my Mienshao's been more of a pain in the ass (and holds the record for most pokemon killed on my team - more than Latios and Rotom combined) than even my Terrakion.

The UU metagame has been more fun than OU going back even to gen 3, IMO

I've used tons of UU/NU POkemon in OU. Just off the top of my head:

I can attest Tangrowth's awesomeness. It takes hits like a champ, then Knock Off's for great lulz. Plus, Regenerator is the best ability ever. Another great Pokemon is Mismagius, if you want an attacking ghost-type that's bulkier than Gengar. Nasty Plot and Pain Split make an awesome combo. Then there's Siglyph, my favorite psychic Pokemon, who isn't so keen on attacking but has Cosmic Power and Psycho Shift, which will fuck you up. Medicham is also pretty cool; Huge Power + Choice Scarf? Yes, please.

I've always been a fan of Sigilyph in game because I dig the design, but man, how am I just now noticing the flame orb psycho shift viability? And badass magic guard keeps the flame orb from damaging it, right?

Exactly, Monkey! The only problem with that Siglyph set is that its only attack is Stored Power, so dark-types are a bother. If there's any damage, Roost will take care of it, but Siglyph in general isn't the bulkiest of Pokemon. I still love it though. :3

IN RELATED NEWS, A NEW POKEMON TV SERIES IS STARTING IN JAPAN ON OCTOBER 2ND OF THIS YEAR.

    LINK IN THE DOOBLEEDOO.

THE PREMISE? I'LL TELL YOU THE FUCKING PREMISE.

IT'S A GEN 1 RETELLING THAT FOLLOWS RED AS HE PROGRESSES THROUGH THE FIRST GAME. HE PICKS CHARMANDER. I DON'T CARE IF THE CHARACTER DESIGN IS A BIT CUTESY.

Just as long as he doesn't force Charmander to run on a mill wheel to power up his fire so he can melt a Geodude, I'm cool with it.

That's what a Mankey or Nidorian is for.

Is it a whole anime reboot or just a one off? I've heard people saying it's only a special/movie thing.

Only thing I've found that apparently says this is a series is this:

    http://victini.tumblr.com/post/58466668327/pokemon-origins-confirmed-to-air-every-wednesday

but that's the ONLY thing I've seen that outright says it's a series, and I've not really seen anything that says it's a one off. Of course there wasn't much of a perusal other than a quick google search. I think I'm just going to assume series until I see otherwise. That, and unless it's a long ass movie, or just a one off that shows origin + Brock fight, it's the only thing that makes much sense.

I saw a screenshot earlier, it had Green ("Gary") and Red arguing over something.

The Pokemon anime is notorious for being poorly executed at every turn. I guess it's sort of "family friendly" though, which is about the only good thing going for it. It's pretty shallow.

I don't think pokemon needs super seirous battles every episode to be good, I think it needs a stronger context and motivation for them. Ash is as lame as you can get, in terms of motivation and purpose.

I found about that trailer on Reddit, where people are saying it's a one off. So I'm not exactly believing them.

It's being touted as a "TV Anime" in Japanese media, which means it's an anime and it's getting broadcasted on public television.

It's also been described as an Original Animation, which means it wasn't funded by a TV company - OVAs and OVDs come to mind, which tend to be direct-to-disc, or shown at theaters.

I'm guessing that Pokemon Co. funded the show and bought airtime. Which is neat.

Not entirely sure how to feel about it. On one hand, No Ash and a hopefully more serious story. (If not by too much) On the other, Red will most likely not be the Silent Protagonist type, that I've come to see him a in the games.

I will say the animation style does a better job of actually making him look 11. (Yes, 11, not 10) The FireRed/LeafGreen artwork made him seem more like a 14 year old, and passable as a 16 year old.

If this is anything like the old Red/Green/Blue manga - and the naming scheme suggests it will be - then this is going to be pretty great. Looking forward to it.

Will this be aimed at a slightly more mature audience?

I haven't watched Pokemon since I was 15, but this actually sounds good.

Eh the discussion about the anime/anime special for red/green might be more appropriate for a different sub/thread.
