Meh. The only pokemon, so far as we know, that got the mega-buff that 100% didn't need it was Blaziken. And who's to say all the starters won't? We're still due another CoroCoro leak before Oct. 12.

    Lucario was already great too.

Adaptability + increased attack stat on megalucario will be crazy on Close Combat, Bullet Punch and maybe even a tanky build with Drain Punch.

Having to dedicate your hold item to it kind of sucks, but we'll see how it goes.

Does mewtwo not have a ridiculous looking megavolution? One of the most op pokemon in the game?

Now seeing the original starters' forms it seems like unneeded, unwarranted fanservice.

I'm just shocked there's no pikachu one that ignores raichu.

    I'm fucking dying, here.

On Pokemon Smash they showed a teaser saying that Mewtwo would have a Megaevolution. It shall be shown next week.

I heard that Mewtwo apparently has two different Megaforms.

wat... I mean really, I hope they're really trying to make gen one pokes more relevant in this game, in preparation for another set of remakes on the new graphics system/engine/whatever.

That would be pretty awesome, we all know that the first gen is the best gen.

I hear this a lot from die hard Pokemon fans, but even as someone who grew up with gen one (I remember battling others in Red and Blue in the back of my fifth grade classroom), in my opinion, the best Pokemon generation was hands down the second. Gold and Silver for life.

The only new feature they've announced that isn't a gimmick is the ability to move Pokemon en-mass and trade them forwards to yourself via Cloud technology, which marks the first intelligent use of the cloud in gaming to date. And it's not even all that useful, because it only works for BW and B2W2.

"We made this because we didn't want long time players, who have been with us since the beginning, to leave their beloved Pokemon with which they have memories behind."

Can you place older Pokemon on BW? I wouldn't know, I skipped out on 5th Gen.

Obviously, what is considered a gimmick is different for everyone. But honestly man? It seems like you come to the video game threads to complain. I, too, have gripes about certain games, but I don't unnecessarily bring it to everyone's attention, especially not ones that haven't been released and are targeted toward 10 year olds. Let's just discuss Pokemon bro, and try not to judge books by their cover.

It's really not. Being able to ride a single specific Pokemon in a single specific area is a gimmick. Megavolutions are a gimmick because they aren't trying to balance the game with it, it's blatant popularity pandering, and will likely be banned from tournament play anyway. Being able/not being able to climb a cliff is a gimmick.

None of these things actually add to the game in a meaningful way. They're just bells and whistles that are being added on. Thus, they are gimmicks.

The only two non-gimmicky things they've shown us are the cloud storage/movement system for Pokemon, and the vague-as-hell snapshot of the rail tracks going off into tunnels that may or may not correspond to the areas of previous generations. And that second one is a speculative interpretation that has yet to be confirmed by anything I know of, and may have been fake, because I haven't seen anyone talking about it for quite some time.

Then you must have pretty shit taste in games.

I just call it like I see it. But let's stop this derail because it's rather pointless.

Anyway, I've been wanting the main games to become more like XD and Colosseum. X and Y looks like that. I am pleased. Gimmicks or no, they've decided to make some changes so that it doesn't get repetitive and die. That's all. If you don't want to acknowledge that, it's fine. Just stating this point because I think you are getting rather pessimistic about this game. I myself am pumped. I skipped 5th gen, but am trying to be positive in outlook for this game.

Do you not think they are going the right way with all this? Giving you more diversity in terms of battles doesn't sound like a gimmick. The riding pokemon gives you some variation in puzzles. Man, just chill out, lay back, and enjoy this game upon release.

Edit: On an unrelated note, does anyone feel like playing some PokeShowdown?

Wait... Aren't Gen3-5 all trade compatible through this super long daisy chain?

I vaguely remember this super chain of pal parks, friend parks, dreams, teleporters, and other crap that get you from Ruby to Black 2.

Yea all gen 3 games forward are portable. It's a long path to go from gen III to gen IV to gen V and then to gen VI when it's released, but presumably all the people who really care already have. This includes the gen I/II remakes.

It's just pointless bitching imo. If it was really that huge a deal to include all your earlier pokemon, the path has existed for everything but gen I/II. If you want to complete the pokedex, all pokemon available in game can be transferred with the time investment. I'm at 620/649 or something and it only took a few hours to get the pokemon I needed xferred forward with a friend's ds lite and my 3ds XL
