To be fair, I like that legendaries follow special breeding mechanics. I feel like, even though legendaries 'can' reproduce, they shouldn't necessarily be popping out eggs at the top of a hat. They should be special, because they are.

It'd be nice if they just had different breeding mechanics, and maybe different IV/shiny mechanics to compensate. It's harder to breed them, but you're more likely to get a desired result.

 

Not sure about that. I think I'd bet on a shiny starter hatching faster than you'd get one by resetting. Just use a foreign ditto so the masuda effect kicks in.

 

Different breeding mechanics are fine. Maybe they can only breed true (Moltres/Moltres), but the IVs are randomized. Maybe they can breed normally, but only under certain conditions. Maybe a given legendary can only produce a single egg, and no more after that, so you have to go down successive generations to try and get a good one, instead of putting a single one out to pasture and hoping for a godchild. Maybe they're plugged into the handheld's calendar, and you can only breed specific legendaries on days associated with them in the calendar year. Like the first week of July is the only time you can get a Zapdos egg from the daycare.

There are lots of different ways they could do it, and they could mix and match as well.

I'm not sure about the odds but it might be faster to try and get a shiny starter from the friend safari. There might be some increased odds to shiny encounters there, since I've heard a lot more about shiny encounters in friend safari than should be normal.

 

Started playing the game yesterday (Y)

My team so far:

Aurorus (Got it's pre-evolution through a Wonder Trade, rofl. Ice Types are OP now.)
Tyrunt (Cause I want Tyrantrum. It's a giant nasty T-Rex. IT WILL BE MINE.)
Charizard (I'm obsessed with this beasty, though now I wish I had X cause the X-version looks better)
Lucario (Cause I needed a fighting type. Looking to maybe replace this one.)
Golett (Cause Golurk, 'nuff said.)
Greninja (Cause I didn't like Chespin, am tired of fire-starters, and its useful in many teams)

If this team has one big issue that I can see so far, It's fighting types, but that's only if Golett has been knocked out, if he hasn't, I just laugh at them and Ghost Punch my way to victory.

But then, I'm not a major poke-fan. I play the games for fun, but I'm not really that great at theorycrafting good teams with almost no weaknesses.

I really like the team, but I'm not sure, I feel like something is missing/wrong. Advice?

Fighting will be something of a problem, but it will be mitigated somewhat by Greninja learning Extrasensory later on.

Avoid what I did and don't load up on dragons. It's easy to do because the game throws them at you in droves. It's clearly trying to balance things by making dragons more common and simultaneously introducing loads of Fairy-type retcons, but you tend to wind up with a lot of things that are weak against Ice and Fighting. If you aren't careful, half your team will end up getting sweeped by the first trainer running something fast with Ice Beam or Aura Blast.

 

Yeah, I find that Golett is pretty awesome when it comes to stopping those annoying ass fighting types. Golurk will be even better. I swept the third gym with him alone until the gym leader, and took out two out of three of her Pokemon with it as well.

I've actually worked a couple different pokemon out of my team before the makeup above, cause it was even more weak to fighting before I did. I think I'll keep Tyrunt as my only Dragon, especially once it evolves into Tyrantrum.

Still not sure what I should replace Lucario with, if anything. Blergh. I need another fighting type, tho, definitely. Something dual-typed. Maybe a Medicham or a Scrafty?

Though I suppose I could make do with something like a Pawniard/Bisharp.

There's no reason not to get the event Torchic. You should anyway, if only because it's the only way you'll ever get Blazikenite. This is your one chance to get the one thing that makes Blaziken megaevolve.

Really hate that they nerfed Extrasensory. Used to be 80 damage at 30 pp. Only move in the game. I really, really loved it. Still great, but 20 pp stings me every time I see it. Y u do this GF, y u do this.

I find that my Greninja isn't really capable of dealing with fighting types. He's fully EV trained for SPA with a positive nature for it and rarely gets outsped, but even with twenty levels on something, the bulkier fighting types can sometimes survive an extrasensory and one-shot him because he's dark-type. Particularly I remember this happening with a couple Sawks (sturdy) and Throhs.

On the other hand, it seems like fighting isn't nearly as common as it was in Gen V so there's that! I would go with the medicham if I were in your situation. It's weak to Fairy/Flying/Ghost but can learn counters to all of them and pure power is pure sex with the easy supertraining for EVs.

I loved Tyrunt a lot more than I like Tyrantrum. I nicknamed my Tyrunt Tyrion but while my Tyrantrum does straight work, I'm not really a huge fan of him or his design. I may replace him in my X playthrough.

I really wanted to like the ice fossil dinosaur but honestly Lapras just seems so much better. Throughout every game of pokemon I've ever played ever, Lapras has been consistently the strongest all around pokemon I've had. She never fails to take care of business and do fucking work. I realize her BST is just as high as it goes without being pseudo legendary, legendary, or having some shitty downside a-la-slaking, but my Laprii have always just seemed better than any of my Arcanines, Milotics, or Gyaradoses.

Just got my Gen 1 Starter. My current team is a Frogardier, a Combusken, and a Bulbasaur. Ideally I'd want to maybe get a Torterra, a Feraligator, and an Emboar just cause a full starter team would be fun. I'll probably just end up using talonflame, Aegislash, and maybe a Tyrantrum or an Aurorus because I like their designs the best. But things change so we'll see.
