They need to reach a certain altitude before they can fire up the insane speeds. Something to do with obstacles, or keeping the muggles in the dark, or atmospheric pressure, or something.

It's as good a theory as any.

Do I know you? (<-- rhetorical question)

So don't go round telling me what to do. I mean what the fuck, you come on an HP-Board that revolves around discussing HP, Canon, Magic and whatever else comes to mind, and then you post in a thread saying nothing other than that you have nothing to say, and that everyone else shouldn't either?

Half your post is confused, and the other half is lacking substance. And even you expressing your opinion can't save it, because you're missing a tiny detail: Unlike in your other example, Forgotten Realms, this world is based on our world -- 20th century, Europe, the UK. That's what makes it interesting. It's the parallelism of magical world and muggle world.

But in turn, that means that Surrey is to the south and west of London, and not anywhere else. It means that there is a certain distance between London and Hogwarts, since the latter is in Scotland and not placed on a map like five minutes away from wherever you want it to be.

And that makes using a map of the UK a legit source, because magic can do many things, but it does not change the layout of the world on a large scale -- OUR world. That's the basis of it all.

So, yeah, since I'm unwilling to rant further at your post that has neither any useful contributions to the topic nor a reasonable opinion: the next time something appears "wierd" to you, go express that feeling elsewhere.

Magic isn't real, so all your theories fail somehow.
