On the topic of the drinking thing...eh. Let the pre-teens write about their urges to get drunk. And the confession thing is sometimes true, I passed out on my friends lawn the night I lost my proper drunk virginity and told him all about my feelings for every person I know, particular one female >_>. I've heard some pretty lulzy confessions while drinking with friends; sexual insecurities, claims of virginity, criminal records and mental problems. Also of course, that one terrifying phone call of STD confusion.

The original Potter's Law is and always will be the best. I felt no need to add any extras to Bio's original work of art.

On topic: Potter Law = old hat. It was sweet when it was fresh and mostly amendment-free, but now it's almost up there with the magical trunk plot device. Besides, almost every Law is cancelled out by a story that qualifies as either (1) The Guilty Pleasure fic, (2) The So-Bad-It's-Hilariously-Good Fic, or the (3) Cliché-Ridden-Fic-That's-Actually-Pretty-Sweet...Fic.

 

Amendment: Harry and co. can use alcohol to trick low level DE's into revealing information that in turn can move the plot forward.

 

There was a Potter Law protesting the addition of personal pet peeves on Post 55 - and it was completely ignored.

 

It hasn't been updated with anything in this thread (or since December 22 of last year). Quit whining.

 

All right, then, so why can't we redraft Potter Law a bit? It's been a year, and things have come up/changed, haven't they? It would make sense, really, as there are some valid points in this thread that have been presented. Asking BioPlague specifically, as he was the original author, would you be adverse to rewritting or amending Potter Law?

Anyway, there are really two types of Potter Law

1) Bio's list, which while tongue-in-cheek, is a very real list of major cliches and irritating traps that many, many fics into.

2) The thread itself, which is for fun. Yes, something a little more general than "this one fic did X which was stupid, don't do that" but Christ, Tehan, is it really a big deal to you if we all share a laugh at some of the problems that run rampant in shitty fics, even if they aren't so all encompassing as to be 'Potter Law'?

 

Big deal? No. But I thought it was worth the twenty seconds it took to type it out to point out that the original point of the thread had been lost. What, upset because I said it in a mean way?

 

I agree with this to a point, which is why I'm suggesting someone takes another serious look at Potter Law. Some of the suggestions made on this thread make a degree of sense, so why not incorporate them? Of course there are some suggestions that are just personal pet peeves, but not all of them.

I am the Potter Law Scribe and I usually get to edit it (and I might sometime soon). But the purpose of this thread is to allow people to recommend them - and the ratio of unsuitable to suitable, worthy suggestions has not changed from the first thread. That doesn't mean they suck. Just that they may be so specific as to be funny to only 1 or 2 people.

Now, there are some IRC ones in there - and a few DLP related ones but those still appeal to a larger audience than say... the story where James fucks the shit out of Harry who enjoys it that traumatized a member who now has to suggest a Potter Law forbidding such things. Which brings up another point - that most suggestions are covered. The law forbidding James on Harry love is the Ahmadinejad Law and the one that totally allows it for the amusement of IRC.

I will also agree that Tehan is trying too hard and that he's becoming more of a dumbshit with each passing post. He's changed his positions and how he posts on everything to become more in-tune with Xiph0, Vash myself and other trolls. But I didn't think it warranted anything more than a one-liner because living your life in a dead-end job as a concession stand worker is punishment enough.

 

And now I warrant an entire paragraph. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
