This isn't a cliché, but I've seen it enough that there ought to be a Potter Law against it!

Lucius Malfoy is in no way luscious. :puke:The very thought is hurl-inducing. :puke:

Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the right thread. I'm afraid I haven't managed to read absolutely everything on this forum yet, as it is a rather daunting task.

You might notice that none of the Potter Laws relate to spelling.

Otherwise, "prophesy" would be up there somewhere.

Prophesy and prophecy are both correct spellings.

Potter Law ? - Adding Luna does not make the story better.

addition: however, if done right, she can be one hell of a comic relief character.

I stand corrected. If this is the only case of this happening in HP, then it must be a simple mistake by JKR. How did this slip past the editing process?

There's another case in Deathly Hallows, I'm certain. Harry says "Thank God," I believe.

Well if Harry says it then that's fine. He was brought up as a muggle, and I think it's mentioned in PS that the Dursley's attended church to keep up appearances. Harry might actually believe in God. I just have a problem when someone like Ron (who is completely ignorant of muggles) says something like that.

There's also the fact that witches and wizards celebrate Christmas and Easter, both of which are Christian holidays. And St. Mongus Hospital, with the Saint in it and everything.

True. I forgot about that. Still, I don't believe that when wizards celebrate Christmas they are celebrating the birth of Christ. Many peoples who don't have religious affiliation or beliefs celebrate Christmas. It's a great excuse to give gifts and take time off with family. The same could be said about Easter. I don't know about St. Mungo's though.

I completely fail to see the point of this. There is absolutely no reason or evidence to suggest that Christianity is a muggle-only religion. It's pretty much assumed that witches and wizards had much greater contact with the non-magical world before the modern age, especially in the medieval period, during muchy of which most of Europe was dominated by the Church. Not to mention, with a constant influx of muggle-born and muggle-raised wizards/witches, and the occasional pureblood who actually researches muggle culture, it's is not only stupid, but completely irrational to assume that magical culture, even pure-blood families, have had no contact with Christianity, to the point that they should never use epithets and exclamations that are almost universal in Western Culture.

This is, of course, ignoring the fact that witches and wizards are considered evil (or Satanists) in the bible.

Where? and while I'm at it, which version? I've heard people quote that many MANY times, but nobody has ever been able to find me the verse...

Honestly, Manatheron, I have no clue. I just know that it's in there somewhere.

Maybe you could look it up yourself here, because I sure as hell can't be arsed.

EDIT: Nevermind, curiosity got to me. Here are a couple links to passages in the bible with the word witch, be it by itself or as part of another word (bewitch, witchcraft, etc.):

    1, 2 (this one, not as good), 3, 4, 5,

EDIT 2: Just for the hell of it, here's the whole of the passage from link 3 - "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."

I deleted the numbers since the forum apparently doesn't have a superscript function.
