Most of the shields we have seen so far (Protego) seem to be for attacks of magical properties. Not metal slugs moving at the speed of sound. The shields we've seen so far are probably designed to combat spells that are moving drastically slower than the speed of sound.

    We've only seen TWO SPELLS!!!

One was Dumbledore and Voldemort, which seemed very specific. (and can be done silently)

THE OTHER IS A 4th YEAR SPELL!!

    Guns

Hello, i know dont post but i've been reading the stories and the discussion here for a while now and finally felt the urge to actually say something. My theory on why guns arent used in the magical world is that using guns is one of the few international laws in the magical community, it would be worded to the effect that using, possesing, or attempting to use guns against magicals would be a mandatory death penalty.

This would have been a pro-pureblood law meant to protect the magical traditions. Also the magical community is too small to sustain losses from modern warfare. If the community in britain is small enought to only have 1 pure-magic town and only one other magical district it cant be very populous. Imagine if someone detonated a bomb in diagon alley how much of the magical economy would it destroy? I think it would be something on par with destorying New York City.

I know thats a bit tangent but my point is that modern weapons would be too devestating to such a small community, and as much as the pureblood ruling class may scorn muggles they understand that if they ever fight their with or against muggle weapons it would destroy the magical community. The Muggleborns and half-bloods that have assimilated into the culture know this too and would side with purebloods and reduce themselves to servitude rather than let magic itself be destroyed.

    Re: Guns

One purely magical town.....that doesn't mean that there aren't magical communities in other cities.....and how do we know how big diagon alley and its offshoots are...and don't forget that muggle technology can't work in magical areas.

I hate it when people say that muggle's would defeat wizards in a war...you ever heard of imperio???? Just Imperio some world leaders and have them anihalate one another!

A handgun seems just as dangerous as an AK if not less so. You get shot in the stomach by an Avada KEdavra, you die. Bullet, you get fucked up, but a person can make a FULL recovery. So, I don't buy it. ITs trying to impose logic where there is none.

P.S. I doubt deatheaters would care anyway.

true about communities in other cities but it is never mentioned so...i dunno, it is a good point though.

However it seems the electronics not working in a purely Hogwarts thing as when it is mentioned it is purely in context with Hogwarts not Magic in general.

That's the theory first seen in the fic "Final Straw" and I find it ridiculous.

No mother would rather let her children get killed than break some silly taboo or law. If she had a gun, she'd use it no matter how "forbidden" or socially unacceptable" that might be.

I guess aurors don't use guns coz they find wands more powerful. And they don't use bombs and other weapons of mass destruction coz they don't need them, don't know about them, can't find them or they don't work around magic.

As for death eaters... heh, I somehow don't see them using weapons made by people and culture they despise. They are like samurai who in the 19th century charged at the muskets and cannons and got themselves killed - tradition and personal beleifs are sometimes stronger than what's covinient.

That sucks. Your story kicks ass. Espescially Dick the snake. He's cool. And the battle scene that you put in was funny at the end.

Don't worry, I'll get it done.
It's just that during February I won't be having much brain power available to dedicate to any unprofitable intelectual work, including the writting...
