You could say the same thing about magical girls, but say that after you've watched Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Think a superior version could me created without loosing the spark that made it so enjoyable in the first place.

You're right, it would be completely impossible to change things to make it more serious. They've never done that before.

^ And yeah, agree with the Madoka Magica comparison.

No Power Rangers story will ever be as good as the events surrounding the Green Ranger in MMPR. It got shitty after that, although I'll agree Zedd was a cool villain.

I was a huge fan of MMPR back when I was a kid. I will watch this even if it's directed by M. Night Shyamalan, just because of the nostalgia.

I hope it doesn't try to be a Nolan Batman film. Power Rangers has no business trying to be dark and gritty. I think Marvel's hitting the right tone with their films, so if they went for something like that it could be pretty good. It'll all depend on the tone I think.

I think the grit will be on the level of Hunger Games. That's the audience they'll be trying for most.

I could go for a slightly more serious Power Rangers movie. While I don't think it's possible to completely remove the camp, nor should you try, I wouldn't say no if the movie took itself more seriously than the TV show tended to.

I'll definitely be seeing this, especially since Saban will be involved.

Also hope to see Tommy make a cameo, at least. I feel like part of the fun of this movie will be trying to spot all the shout outs.

I'd probably watch it, but that's because I'd probably watch any actual major movie they tried to make out of sheer curiosity.

It would be terrible if it was dark and gritty. I'd watch it just to see how bad it is.

We don't actually know if it will be "dark and gritty", all we know is that it is a reboot, nothing else.

Then again, if they really wanted to make it dark and gritty, there is always the Godwin option.

The irony of there being a black guy in there is not lost on me.

Would be interesting if they took the rangers from all around the world and they all actually had martial arts skills.

Seeing as the Hunger Games novels' core fanbase is women [esp. young women], and the movie is more popular with women, I don't think that the decidedly aimed-at-boys MMPR franchise is going after the same target audience. At all.

I think what he meant was the teenage demographic; while divergent is definitely aimed at teenage girls, Hunger Games appeals to teenagers in general. At least from personal experience, as I don't know a single guy or girl my age who hasn't seen it.

Though I think MMPR would work best if it tried to maintain a balance of camp and seriousness without going off the deepend on either side.
