When I joined DLP, I said how I never found a story where I thought Harry/Fleur should be together...

    I have been mistaken.

Harry/Fleur pairing here is amazing. It is almost as good as Harry/Luna. I don't know what she does, but the author is brilliant at characterizations and pairings.

As much as I want Harry/Fleur now... I am still secretly hoping for Harry/Princess of France. I want Harry to be king of a country with a princess whom he could control and be in conflict with Voldemort. I think that would be epic.

He could still secretly see Fleur on the side as well... I mean he would be a king, they have to have mistresses.

    New Chapter.

Some nice Harry and Ron interaction and a possible setup (Slughorn's musings) for the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort, we'll see.

What made this chapter for me is Bobby and drunk Lucius. It was not only beyond fun but also expounded on the older Malfoy's state of mind while under Tom's curse.

I thought it was a really weak chapter. Most of the character interactions were dull and didn't really tell us anything about the character's that we didn't already know or advance the plot in any meaningful way. For the most part it was just more verbiage added onto a story that's been flirting with the overlong line for a long time.

The Bobby and drunk Lucius was good, expanding on both their mindsets and showing how close to the edge Lucius is. The part with Harry and the Weasley's was at least a little bit entertaining. Other than that it was supremely dull and left me bored and feeling that the chapter probably could have been entirely omitted with little to no effect on the overall story.

Oh, man you just complain for the sake of it. Even if the chapter was more of a filler thing, it still wasn't bad, terrible or dull. There were too many threads going on, the fic was disjointed and scrambled, the author needed to bring at least some of them together, and he did.

Don't bitch on attempts to improve the story, dude.

Just read the new chapter, got to honest, it was very nothingy. I don't recall much about it, having just read it, and it didn't really grab me in any way at all.

Not his/her (?) best chapter. Drunk!Lucius had potential, but didn't quite work. He felt off, even taking the drunkenness into account. As for the rest? Well, various plot strands have inched further, which is good, but not terribly interesting in itself. That whole lunch meeting could have been skipped and summarised and not altered the story progression one jot, however well written it was. Something brilliant will doubtless happen soon though.

Yeah, this felt mostly like a bridge chapter and could have been covered in less than half the length if he had any inclination to do so.

Just been updated. Quite a good chapter this time. Some interesting interactions between Snape and Harry, as well as some general plot advancement.

Also possibly the best quip in quite a while.

"Harry are you involved in organised crime?"

"...Organised is not the word I'd use for it..."

    But overall a good chapter.

Oh, come on, that is not the best quip. This gem...

"There's no way I can sit through one of Toure's lecture on an empty stomach."

Totally intentional. Will edit back with more once Im done with the chapter.

Okay, so, I haven't read this fic since around chapter 10, when I gave it up in disgust at Harry's characterisation. I am now considering putting in the time to read the whole thing, given many positive reviews. However...

From what I can see in this thread, would it be accurate to say that the fic is great, but that Harry's characterisation is the weakest point? That he's a boring, passive, reactionary and even more annoying than canon!Harry non-hero who exists solely to act as an eyepiece for the reader to see the world and other characters the author has created?

That was the case back when I first read it.

If so, not sure if I want to read.

Pretty much this, plus magical cores. I made about 80 chapters in, but when a bodyguard explained that they could not do magic for everyday activities because they had to save it for emergencies I couldn't take it anymore.

I'll never understand why perfectly good writers feel the need to spoil their stories with dumb shit like that.

To be fair, it didn't sound nearly so stupid in context.

Harry's characterization is... not bad, but it may seem inconsistent due to a plot device that the author uses. His character isn't very deep, but it's hardly the worst I've seen in fanfiction.

Harry's pretty good, and is decently proactive. He's much better when he's a teenager, around book V and later. That's when I think this story shines, though the update rate has suffered a bit.
