    This. Exactly this.

    Also:

    Y u so mad?

Seriously. You're getting very personally butthurt at the thought that people might not like this fic and express that fact in the very place that is designed for discussion and critique of the fic. Interesting.

Meh, it's still one of my favorite WIP HP fanfics despite what you cuntnuggets are harping on about. Harry's characterization is decent enough - I've read some utter shit over the years - and I don't too much care about that 'magical core' deal - I'd forgotten about it, actually, and the main draw, for me anyway, is the otherworldly magic that Harry and Voldemort use. I want to see more of it. The writing is decent and the interpretation of the HP world is great. B+

OK FUCK ALL OF YOU FUCKING FAGGOTS I HATE ALL OF YOU.

Lindsey: It's not realistic. If a person acts gay in real life all the fucking time, and stares at little boys, he most probably wants to suck cock. Every other guy in the real world isn't gay. Far. Fucking. From it.

    Edit:

OK FUCK ALL YOU FUCKING FAGGOTS. In a school of Hogwarts size there shouldn't be more than a handful of homos, especially considering that you should really only count the ones near Harry's age group.

Draco Malfoy did comment on it, saying that he was sure Tom was a pedo and all.

Why is the concept so repulsive to you though? I'm honestly curious here: I can understand the hate if it's used as a shitty plot device by authors with a fetish for Heroic Last Stands, but in most fics that use it (including this one) it's fanon that's just... there. Part of the background, so to speak. It's a lot of vitrol for something pretty minor.

Yes, Sree, you are correct: it does seem that more than the standard 10% of individuals are gay. And? Harry isn't going around having giant orgies, and he doesn't even really notice other guys in that context. He has several het relationships throughout the course of the story. Could the story do without all the gay people? Yeah, probably. Could real life do without the gay people? I'm sure I'll let you answer that.

Except it's not minor. In most fics that use it, magical cores are the way the author introduces conflict into action scenes, either through the trade off between power and endurance (some fics even have people getting exhausted after just a few spells, like in Dresden) or though the differences in the size of cores between characters.

It's lazy writing. It uses a plot device to create artificial conflict by placing an arbitrary bound on magic use. True conflict should come from the conflict between characters: their personalities, their plans, their skills and abilities and friends and enemies and pasts.

The notion of magical cores is about as absurd as "cleverness cores" would be. Imagine if characters were permitted some limited amount of time of being clever, after which they suffered cleverness exhaustion, and further that some characters had more cleverness points than others which allowed them to execute better plans.

It would be a ridiculous way of inserting conflict into a story. I feel exactly the same way about magical cores.

I'm really not seeing why the concept is so difficult to understand. You may not like it or agree with it on a canon basis, but that's no reason to say it can't possibly be an effective or legitimate plot device.

That said, we shouldn't argue over the magical core thing in this thread, and I really couldn't care less if you read the story or not. This isn't Clockwork Orange where I'm going to force your eyes open to read it.

For the record, I would be pretty unsatisfied by any fic in which conflict was resolved due to physical stamina too.

Imagine if, in Gladiator, Maximus didn't get caught because he was betrayed/Commodus was clever, but because he got tired out before he reached his horse.

Using cleverness cores as an analogy is disingenuous. An easier, more direct comparison would simply be physical ability. All the base concepts apply: growth because of age/repeated use, some simply have more innate talent at it than others, exhaustion, etc etc. It's pretty much just authors trying to use real world logic to define magic, again because magic is so loosely defined in canon that a lot is left to interpretation.

It's really about a good author utilizing bad material (the idea of magical cores), and in the end I just don't see why having this concept in a fic should be grounds for immediate dismissal if the story itself is interesting. On the flip side, I would probably find a fic where a sufficiently intelligent wizard could drop Armageddon spells willy-nilly with no restriction rather boring.

Anyways, getting horribly off-topic here, and you've explained your end to me. Cheers, thanks for the explanation.

EDIT: derp, two new posts while I'm eating/writing this post make me sound redundant.

I'll see your Maximus Commodus betrayal, and raise you the following:
Snape. Lucius. Voldemort. Bellatrix. Draco. Ron. (oh Ron). Dumbledore. about half a dozen other characters. And Harry himself of course.
All of them have conflicting plans, conflicting goals. And they are just the faction leaders. Especially in the latest chapters, but really since book 5 got into the swing of things, those have been driving the conflict of this story.

To complain about magical cores is fair. It is lazy writing. But the author is now providing exactly what you want, real conflict with plots and betrayals and things going horribly wrong for just about everybody. So I say treat that as a really bad spelling error. you wince, and you move on.

Honestly, Voldemort being sexually active is just creepy, regardless if he is fucking a guy or a girl.

I have no idea what Tom is thinking, he's one of those characters that I really don't know if I like or not. He fucking like stalks Harry, which is something I never seen before therefore I have to give her credit on her originality.

I didn't even remember that she used magical cores were even in the story till you guys posted it, that is how little impact they have. I am in it for the world she has created and the motherfucking plots that all seem to connect. I have absolutely no idea how she is going to end this year, let alone the series.

Ron, Snape, Voldemort, Malfoy, Bellatrix and Lucius, and Fleur are all far better than canon with almost every character being just as good as canon.

The beginning of the story is quite boring, and though it hooks you in within the first chapter, it declines until the Quidditch match and when Harry meets the werewolves for the first time. Trust me... She makes the best werewolves ever. I don't see how anyone can not like this fic just because of Luna.

    Luna FTW.

I love that pairing in this story, even when I knew it couldn't work out.

This saddens me too, especially since Voldemort told Luna that Harry's not for her, and she pretty much confirmed it (Book 4, Ch4).

I've been reading this fic for a while now, and to be honest I think the whole gay thing is more of a DLP anti-gay reactionary thing rather than a massive amount in story. There are gay couples - In a society where men and women are basically equal and children can be adopted very easily. Even then, there are only one or two gay couples in the whole 6 year fic. And Sree, that character was explicitly meant to be a creepy weirdo who freaks Harry and the reader out hardcore, and blushing here is not arousal or romantic feelings but to show discomfort. Harry's character has never shown any inclination to bang dudes, nor has most any other male character.

And I did not even realize that magical cores were in the story. They really play such a minor role, its kind of idiotic that its been picked up as such a major issue. The magic laws of the fic are really quite strange, as the 'old magic' often uses classical gods and goddesses as literal sources of power, and all the weird eccentricities that go along with that.

This fic may not be for everyone. Yes, there is drama and certain minor points you may dislike. But, there is some amazing world-building, great charcterization, a creative new take, and most of all, a solid progression.

The first two or three books are pretty boring. As in the series, they are lighter, more childlike fare that introduces the world and characters while the later books include the more adult content. In this fic, that happens to include some of the more badass actions and political machinations that I personally enjoy the most. The early books were a slog to get through, but when in Book 5 or 6,(I can't remember) a full scale war begins, with violent massacre, genocide and rebellion on all fronts, with Harry right at the centre. Some of the more enjoyable reading I've done. And now, the many many changes and plots are coming to a head in this book.

My personal problems with the fic include a tendency to drag out chapters, some spelling mistakes and my dislike of two or three characters. But, there is still a lot to enjoy here, and it does deserve (for me) a proper 4/5.

At the Lennox mall - or whatever the fuck it's called - every other guy is gay..

It was sickening, walking through that mall, but the bad ass mixed chicks made up for it. I've never seen such an assortment of bad ass bitches.

I found this to be a pretty wicked read lots of good stuff but there seems to be a certain celtic influence to this author's writing i have found in my personal opinion of its reading. Certainly it is interesting but also longwided, with no evidence of a beginning middle and end, and that there is a major problem. 3/5

Are you retarded? There is a clear beginning. (Harry gets introduced to magic and his whole first year.) The story then develops and has it's meat, the middle. And it's a WIP so yes there's no end yet.

    :facepalm
