I haven't seen it yet, but some people were saying that in the book it was a Killing Curse cast at Sirius. It wasn't, it had a reddish glow.

Yeah in he book it wasn't a killing curse, in the movie it was, and whats funny is he doesn't die right away, he does sort of this corny fall like when someone gets stabbed.

Actually he falls backwards from the trajectory of the curse. But yes, it seems to be some kind of slow motion.

To the "ginny is portrayed as strong", never mind how i hate her character (both in the books and in fanfics) she IS usually described as strong. And yes, Luna was perfect in the movie (though to me it looked rather as if they were setting up Luna and Harry not Ginny and Harry, Ginny was jealous, but Luna and Harry had some chemistry in the movie).
Its funny how some characters get "smaller" in the movie (ron and hermione didn't have that much screen time compared to the book) and others get "bigger" (Luna has an additional scene, and all scenes she has in the book)

I agree with the Harry/Luna moments. For a moment I thought, "Hey, maybe that is foreshadowing allowed by JKR for the 7th book, maybe Harry will leave Ginny behind and get with Luna."

Yeah, they said Ginny is powerful in the books, but doesn't mean I have to like it :(

If JKR went for Harry/Luna in DH, I would take back everything mean I've ever said about the series.

Is the movie worth it, or should we wait to just rent it, or find it online?

Kind of a tough question because it is going to be split. It is going to come down to who you are more likely to listen too.

I thought the movie was good, I felt I didn't waste my money. You might want to wait a couple days so the crowds die down. Or you can just bit torrent it in a couple days and dl a bootleg.

The movie's worth watching for the special effects. Special Effects look best on a big screen. Thus, I'd say going to watch it at the cinema is the best bet.

It was a fairly good looking film, and the weird ghost fighting will probably lose a lot of its effect outside of the theater. I'd recommend going to see it, at least to show that you're a fan. I mean, fanfiction already has debatable legalities, so torrenting the movie? Nah.

I thought that the movie was decent, with the exception of the ridiculous scene transitions and overall jumpiness of it. Luna was the awesome. Hands down. It's worth it just for her.

I felt as if I didn't waste my money seeing it, but If you're looking for the IT movie of the summer this isn't it. It is enjoyable if you like the canon book and don't mind the transitions but I don't think its a good movie on its own. I'd see it in theaters just for the experience.

Has anyone here seen it in 3D? Is it good? I'm going to see it this weekend with a friend, and I'm wondering if it's worth a 30 min. drive to see it in 3D.

I liked it, one thing that i did not see Luna having was that kind of curly blond hair, for some reason I expected really straight hair. Anyways, I thought the actual casting of the spells was the best part, it seemed much more fluid.

On another note, did anyone notice that in the big scene where Sirius dies, no one said anything to cast their spells? Except for Harry.

  14. Harry seemed to be the only one saying spells; except when Bellatrix shouted something remarkably close to 'Avada Kedavra'.

The whole movie seemed like a parody; the camera looking around at the beginning, and Dudley's gang suddenly being there in that corny shot; Harry having the vision of Mr. Weasley and the next thing we know, Ron and McGonagall are dragging him to Dumbledore's office.

But the thing about the movie I absolutely hated was Sirius's death. I don't know if Bellatrix's curse didn't work, because Sirius was already partially sucked into the Veil, but it.... :wall: If you saw someone being slowly sucked into a glowing mass, wouldn't you just reach out and grab him back?

It seemed horribly done and not with the dramatic suddenness that the book portrayed.

I did.. I went to the Imax one where they had the last 20 minutes in 3D.. it was actually pretty stupid the fight scene in the DOM was bad enough as it is but the 3d made it even worse

I saw it in 3D, Imax and all that crap with a screen two times the normal size. It's cool, but it hurts the eyes and it blurry even with the glasses on. It's worth it though, especially in the Dumbledore/Voldemort fight scene. The fire serpent is the shit graphically, even though it's gay. Did anyone else get Gandalf fighting the Balrog in LotR? My mind went 'You! Shall Not! Pass!!!'.

I didn't think it was that bad, Nuck. It just hurt the eyes and was hard to watch the full screen with the glasses on. Meh.

Oh, I didn't mention this before, but the possession was terrible. Radcliff tried to pull it off, but as usual his acting failed. He also said this corny as line that made me cringe terribly. Baaaad.

I just came back from watching it.

[Warning this is pretty much a thorough review of the movie... so if you don't wanna be spoiled...]

The begining kinda... well sucked donkey balls.

I'm willing to forgive Radcliffe simply because I'd rather him than them changing the actors.

Dudley, was a bit strange, though I'll admit his character was a bit more enjoyable than the snivveling boy they had for the 1- 3. If it werent for the resemblence I would have said they changed actors on us; his accent was off. Something that had me pausing though was the fact that Dudley could run as fast as Harry. In cannon that would have been impossible. It woudl be more like an indiana jones movie, with dudley replacing the giant bolder as he barreled after Harry.

The person who played Figg was horrible. It was like watching the acting of that elderly butler in the spiderman movies.

Do they just give a pass to the senior citizens...

They just say their lines now a days and then their off. There's no emotion to their voice, they don't stop to add inflections, its just one long spouting of gibberish; then their off to eat some more prunes and reminis about matlock. I like her appearance as it was suitably batty, but I envisioned Figg, a bit more firm, this one looked like a leaf could topple her.

Tonks though was actually well done in my opinion. Rather close to the books version if I do say so. The hair was a little less like it but otherwise, quite accurate. Though I call the script writer on not havign her say Wotcher once! Thats unforgiveable - Its such a staple...

I liked the neck twist for Harry though... it was much better than that strange tongue thing they had barty doo for hte forth movie. and I think Radcliffe pulled it off. It suitably unhinged him, and added to his turning evil persona.

Letting that slide though... I actually enjoyed the movie. Its bellow transformers but it still worth it to see.

And shame on whoever said that the prophecy wasn't covered fully. you made me think they just paraphrased it... if I werent so lazy, I'd go back through the thread history and neg rep you for that.

Luna, was a delight... I know it can't happen if they stick to cannon, but it made me just dream that it could be possible. Harry Luna FTW.

Evanna lynch was an excellent choice. The best since the first guy who portrayed dumbledore, and Mcgonagall, and the guy who plays hagrid.

Though I almost lost it when they made cho out to be the snitch. That was so far from necssary. And who is that kid; was he supposed to be creeveys brother? He looks like that Nigel character from GOF.

Who is he anyway? Anyone know?

My friend who watched the film with me was actually quite angry that harry didn't reconcile with Cho in the end when it was revealed that veritaserum had been used. I can't blame her... It makes harry look quite bad. He kisses her, she confides in him, and then he dumps her. It was like he was using her to make him feel better through his teenage angst. I had to explain to her that in the fifth book cho wasn't the betrayer.

Bellatrix was quite good, though I envisioned her to be a bit less disgusting, and a tad hotter, in a scraggly sort of way, I still think she pulled off the insane witch thing.

For a moment after She killed sirius... I stared at her face and I was like... no, don't tell me she's regrettign it... Then there was that twist and an insanse smile replaced it... and she truly was Bella.

I'm quite pleased though that they kept the crucio moment with Harry. I was afraid they would cut that.

I liked the fact that everyone was witness to harry's moment of weakness as voldemort possesed him... i'm a sucker for that kind of thing... the whole... my god, he's in pain and he's suffering.... that poor boy.

Shut up... You know you enjoy those hero moments too when everyone sympathizes with them.

Thought he end when Harry spouts that crap about how he felt sorry for voldemort... it was so cheesy, I could feel my stomack twist in disgust. It would have been better to leave that moment verbally silent.

I'm wondering though... did everyone here the prophecy speak or was it just harry. Cause if it was everyone... I would actually prefer it rather than having them re enact that scene from HBP. Theres no actual use in hiding it... unless theres some big twist for book 7 its pointless to keep it a secret.

Anyway... I'd give this movie... a 7 out of 10... 7. 5 because the effects kicked ass.

And I'm an emma watson fanboy, She is hotness personified!

You guys planning to gang bang Luna or something? I mean, holy shit she must have jumped right out of the book for this good a reception.

I'm seriously debating weather to go or find it somewhere....free'er. I hate the movies, and don't want to support them by giving my money to the 'cause', but at the same time the effects look the best on the big screen.

Is it worth it to against my better judgment?

Beat that better judgement down, you'll be dissapointed later if you don't. It's worth it to go see on the big screen, especially an Imax one, because all those snazzy effects would be lost to you if you don't. Acting is terrible and the movies do generally suck, but it's Harry Potter! Done deal for me there, mate.

Quazi- That was the same Nigel kid from the fourth book, they said his name like twice I think in this one. I don't remember him from the fourth, though, where was that?
