I remember him from when he delivered ron his yule ball robes...

    Ron promised him harry's autograph.

I didn't hear alot of what was said as I had a couple of dipshits around me.

You knwo the type... the obnoxious laughing ones who make snide unfunny remarks thinking their cool and witty.

OK, heres how I see it:

Luna was a godsend. My favourite character in the whole movie, and in my opinion was one of the things that kept it going.

Same with Bellatrix. The actress managed to make a psychotic, been-in-prison-for-15-years, complete murdering nutter, into a rather sexy all -of-the-above.

I'll agree with a lot of you when I say Radcliff can't act. Never could.

I liked most of the DOM battle. I thought the whole turn into a wraith thing was pretty cool, if a bit wierd. You must admit, the Malfoy looked awesomely cool when he (apparates?) in front of Harry and everone in DOM, forming from smokey stuff. That was sweet.

As for Ginny....I didn't see that much of a problem. In fact I liked the way she was done. So shes got a strong reducto... "oh god they made the girl uber powerful!!!" Who cares? As far as I'm concerned, the whole DIE!CHO!DIE! thing she was doing was hilarious.

The Harry Cho kiss was the prudest snog I've ever seen.

All in all, I actually really liked this movie. But, I think a bullet to Radcliffs head is in order. Luna, Tonks and Bella are all great in this, even if Tonks and Bella are only in it for a couple of minutes.

However, I was wondering if anyone caught the "Nice one James!" that Sirius says to Harry during DOM? I guess he said it because of the whole Harry is a James reincarnate, but I thought it was pretty damn pointless.

I did catch that "Nice one James" moment--quite odd, actually.

I think it's safe to say this was the worst Harry Potter movie, as a whole. There were some good things, namely, the introduction of Luna Lovegood into the series (although, I think the train ride scene from the book would have been a better way to do it--Neville's plant spews in Harry's face as Cho walks in), Helena Bonham Carter's characterization of Bellatrix Lestrange (Azkaban looked pretty sick, imo), and the woman who played Umbridge should be cast in the highest paying roles from now on--she fucking made the movie. I don't believe anyone could have done better. Voldemort and Dumbledore's fight scene, while lacking the statues, was pretty decent. Deviations from canon are okay as long as it's not a major plot point...

    That said:

Cho was the snitch? - That was the worst deviation possible, unforgivible even. Under Veritaserum she gives up the secret? It would have been 100 times better to include Marietta and Shacklebolt's memory charm. Plus, as said above, it makes Harry look like an asshole for not forgiving her.

Weasley is NOT our King and goes with them to see Grawp? - I can somewhat see why they did this, and therefore, it's not that bad. Saves a lot of time just jerking around with Quidditch, and Ron is always put in the humorous situations. Still...

No Firenze? - Won't go in depth there, but...

No injuries to anyone in the DoM? - Oh come on! Dolohov never hits Hermione, Ron never gets the brains, Neville never breaks his nose... How can you miss these things?! It would have made the "Final Battle" so much more interesting to see them run through different rooms of the DoM, dodging ACTUAL CURSES, and NOT SPARKS AND GHOSTLY FIGURES.

I don't have more time to keep rambling, but I'll just say this...

Please God shoot the director. Bring in someone worth a fuck for the next movie.

I actually thought this was the best movie, I actually enjoyed it and came out with a feeling of non hatred.

I'm officially a Luna fanboy now, she was amazing.

Bella is hot as, she was brilliant. Her acting after the Crucio and after offing Sirius was awesome.

Hated how the Dementor strangled Harry against the wall, that pissed me off.

Hated the ordinary boys playing in the common room, no muggle stuff works so how would a CD player bloody work, and what a stupid song for them to be playing too.

Hated the Sirius death too, stupid stupid stupid.

I had mixed feelings about the DOM fight, its my favourite bit in the HP book so far. They deviated so far from cannon, yet i still liked it. The smoke flying was really cool, i actually wished that had been in the book.

Voldie Dumbledore fight was really really good. Special effects 5/5

    Overall 4/5 , surprisingly

I thought that was supposed to be a wizarding wireless... it looked old timey enought to be plausible... unless there was an actual cd player that I missed?

If I remember ootp, dumbledores fight wasnt that off... I kind of remember him trapping voldemort in water and then freezing it... I think were all just focusing on the statues and apparition a bit much.

Really if you think about it... the statues thing could seem a bit hokey, compared to the rest of the stuff they had going on.

And someone mentioned a priori incantantum... I think they just copied the spell effect because it was so cool. I personally love that effect. Visual eye candy...

I'm divided on the strange apparition thing.

Mainly because of the color scheme... I originallly thought the death eaters looked that way because of the color of what they wore... but then none of the order were wearing all white so that throws that theory out the door.

Although personally I like the whole apparition duel fight ghost thing... even if it wasn't cannon. But the color scheme crys out that god damn light vs dark cliche...

I still reccomend people go see it, if only for Luna.

I didn't see a CD player, but The Ordinary Boys on the Wizarding Wireless, seems a bit strange.

I agree, would be cool if it was the colour of what clothes you wore, so 'appiration' was like moving very very fast.

Yeah he's the same Nigel kid from the fourth movie, i think the director including him as a way to keep the continuity of the films.
As for the not forgiving Cho part i completely agree and the only answer I had to that was they needed a way to get rid of her for the future movie. Since they didn't make her out to be a bawling girl who is only with Harry to hear about Cedric, they had to come up with a way to get rid of her. Not the best idea but w/e
As for Luna Stalicon, it's not that the character is amazing it's just that the actress that played her did such a phenomenal job. Normally you're used to seeing crappy portrayals of characters cough Lupin cough, but that girl did a great job, and the lines she had were almost directly from the book. I found it funny how a fan with no acting experience out acted a lot of the other more "professional" actors.

I've always loved Luna, but this movie made me want a shirt or something. I thought she, Bella, and Umbridge were done to perfection! Absolutely brilliantly. Tonks on the other hand... Well, less said the better on the subject of her eyebrows.

I also liked the fact that Ginny didn't say one line in this movie. Not one! I was kind of shocked by Cho though. I mean, she looked perfect, just like I always imagined her, then she opened her mouth. I was expecting either an Asian accent, or one like the others have. Instead she sounds Irish, and I just went, "What the...?"

Apparently that's why she got the part originally, the director liked her scottish accent.

Didn't really bother me (being scottish) but i can see how it would annoy some people.

Wow.. whole lotta negativity here and I can't really see why. It was a very good movie. Extremely well paced, with very solid performances all around.

    Heavy spoilers below.

    Pros:

-Gary Oldman is the stinky, nasty, shit. He IS Sirius Black. The only problem I saw with him calling Harry "James" was that it happened just before his death, so they never had a chance to resolve it.

-Luna stole the movie. Perfect look (is probably the cutest of the student actresses at this point, or at least tied with Emma) and voice. I've been moving over to the H/L bandwagon for a while now and this might have sealed it for me.

-Umbridge was perfect. The moment where she slapped Harry was classic, as was her confrontation with McGonagal.

-For the first time since Richard Harris died, Dumbledore actually seemed like Dumbledore. It probably helped that they didn't give him many lines, but I never cringed the way I did in PoA and GoF. He'll probably suck again once he has to show any emotional range in HBP (I'm dreading the "I'm not worried, you're with me" line), but he was very solid in this.

-I loved the scene when Harry is looking into the Mirror of Erised and Snape appears behind his parents. Pure gold.

-Ginny was not a Mary-Sue superwitch. If she had been, she would have gotten at least one line. As it was, all she did was tag along and blow shit up, which I'm fine with. That being said, the actress who plays her might be the ugliest chick in the entire movie. Is it just me, or does she always look constipated?

-Not sure where all the Radcliffe hate is coming from. I thought he did fine. The only spots where I might have been tempted to cringe were places where the writers had saddled him with really shitty lines that no one could have pulled off realistically.

-Loved the flirty looks between Harry and Tonks.

-I'd much rather see Harry and the Order skimming the Thames and playing dodgeboat than flying up in the clouds. So that's not the way it happened in the book... so what? Different medium, different interpretation. Which was basically the way I looked at most of the things they either changed or left out. When you only have two hours and twenty minutes to tell an 870-page story, then some things are going to be changed or left out, that's just the way it is. As it stands, I think they did a very good job, particularly with the pacing, and I'm actually looking to seeing how this director handles HBP.

    Cons:

-I saw Petunia's knees!!!! Barf! Gag! Someone gouge my eyes out!

-Number Four and Little Whinging definitely got hit with a retcon bomb, which I felt was unnecessary.

-The opening scene did kinda suck, but you could tell that they were at least trying something different, so I give them just a little credit for that.

-Where the hell was Dobby? It would have made much more sense to have him tell Harry about the RoR than have Neville just stumble across it randomly.

-Emma Watson tries too hard. Second poor performance for her in a row.

-On the whole, I enjoyed the DoM fight, but it's just lazy to have Dumbledore and Voldemort use the same brother wand effect from GoF. Yes, it looks plenty cool, but surely they could have thought of something different to use there.

-What the hell was that black/white smoke stuff? It wasn't apperation, we saw that when Fred and George did it at Grimmauld Place. Again, it looked cool, but it was completely non-canon. Interpretation is one thing, making shit up is totally different.

-The Death Eaters sucked. Malfoy was great, but the whole look with the Flash Gordan masks was awful.

-We never got the moment where Harry wanted to die while being possessed by Voldemort.

-Alan Rickman is sixty years old and it shows. Don't get me wrong, he's great in the role, but he's supposed to be playing a character that's at least twenty years his junior, and the deep lines in his face kinda kill it for me.

    Big D

  14. My sister pointed this out to me, and now I can't watch any of the movies without thinking about it:

Emma Watson's eyebrows are really annoying.

Whenever she's saying something, they move all over the place on her forehead, and both of us can't help but watch with a sense of morbid curiosity.

In this movie, though, it's very noticeable because she doesn't have any lines that need the emphasis.

Im not gonna go into a whole big Pro/Con thing, cause I really dont have the patience to do it. What I will say, however, is that I LOVED this movie. After the first four terrible adaptations NONE of you should have gone into this movie looking for an accurate portrayal of the books. I went to see it for what it was, a MOVIE. That being said, it was awesome. The Battle at the Ministry was the star of this movie, I said it to all my friends, all I came to see was things go ZAP ZAP and BOOM. I was quite pleased with the number of ZAPs BOOMs and SHIELDs we saw. The smoke thing was a little unneccesary, but still served to distinguish between the school-children and the adults.

Dumbledore/Voldemort was incredible. Absolutely awesome effects. I wish it had been longer, but we can't get everything we wanted.

Luna was cast PERFECTLY. Just perfect. 'Nuff said.

Not sure about Dudley's loss of brain power and that retarded face he made the whole time we saw him, but still, I enjoyed the opening scene until Mrs Figg showed up all calm and collected, when she should have been flipping out.

On another note, we know JKR has input on what NEEDS to stay in the movies for plot reasons. That being said, I think we can safely confirm that Regulus Black did NOT hide Voldemort's Horcrux at Grimmauld Place.

    I just saw the movie.

"meh". Luna was hot. Voldemort in a suit was creepy.

And Ginny, wow. She fucking destroyed the Hall of Prophecies. It was not just one shelf, she made every single fucking shelf collapse. <_<

I saw it at the Drive-In with 1408. 1408 was better.

    Pros:

    1. Gary Oldman was amazing as Sirius Black. He was easily the best actor in the movie. Is it me or was he the only one to show emotion in this film?

    2. Luna. She was just how I pictured her. Hot, smart, and ditzy. Although I do wonder why I saw blatant Harry/Luna chemistry; It was most welcome. I thought they'd be building up H/G.

    3. I thought Bella and Tonks were spot on. Bella was completely insane and Tonks flirting with Harry was cool.

    4. Maggie Smith was great as always.

    5. Lucius Malfoy. Acting was great. I also liked how he and the other Death Eaters easily caught Harry and Co. The smiled at the line "Did you really think you kids could beat us?"

    6. The Death Eaters weren't useless bumbling fools that fanon had etched into my mind.

    7. After the movie was over; while reflecting about when Harry said something like "Maybe if I stop caring about people they will live" and Sirius died soon after, I laughed.

    Cons:

    1. How close is Privet Drive to farmlands?

    2. We didn't see Harry's stag patronus at the beginning but we saw the DA's fully formed.

    3. Sirius' death scene. (Besides killing the best actor in the series) After being hit with an AK he somehow managed to turn his head to look at Harry. I think they could have easily done it the way the book had, as well as Harry screaming "She killed Sirius! She killed Sirius! I'LL KILL HER!" Also, I thought in the book Bella screamed for at least 3 seconds when Harry crucios her.

4.The black wraith/DE's and the white pure Order members made me roll my eyes.

    5. The whole Dumbledore/Voldemort conversation is cut.

6.The Voldemort possesses Harry scene. I was looking forward to the Voldemort/Harry saying "If death is nothing, then kill the boy."

    7. The line where Harry say's he pities Voldemort.

    8. I was looking forward to Harry yelling at his friends in #12 and destroying Dumbledore's office. It seems Harry only raises his voice to demand "Look at me!"

Yeah, I was waiting for that too...honestly, I thought that was the most cringeworthy part of the movie. Where Harry says, "You'll never know love, or friendship..." I laughed out loud, because it looked like he was talking to Dumbledore at that point.

Overall, I thought the film was decent, if rushed, but the biggest problem I have is the lack of setup for the sixth. How hard would it have been for them to stick in that line during Occlumency where Snape admits that he's been spying on the DEs? (Or not spying, whichever way you want to go). For people who haven't read the books, the entire plot of the sixth is going to come completely out of nowhere. Well, besides the romance, I guess.

    PROS:

-Luna was awesome. The thestral scene was great, and it's exactly how I imagined them. What Luna said about all her shoes was funny as well.

-Bellatrix was also awesome. The "I killed Sirius Black!" when she was, uh, 'misting' away was hilarious. She really was insane, and her laughter had a crazy childish tone to it.

-The mist thing. I wondered what it was then deducing the black mist was a great idea. Then the order were white mist and it wasn't that great.

-Voldemort was done well. The "You will loose everything" part was great.

-The duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore was also great. I don't know why some are complaining about the fire snake- that was in the book.

    CONS:

-The movie, to me, was not that dark. It skipped Harry's anger completely, except for the "LOOK AT ME!". The twins apparating down and then saying "don't bottle it up" was stupid- it wasn't an angry moment.

-I have to agree that Ginny was slightly uber. Destroying the entire statue and turning it to dust was to much. As was wiping out the entire Hall of Prophecies.

-The DoM duel was pathetic. Nothing happened except for Sirius dying.

-Chronology was completely messed up, and you never even found out why Sirius got blasted off the family tree.

-The end was atrocious. "I pity Voldemort", and all that was just terrible.

-Skipped my favourite parts, such as Harry using the Cruciatus curse and Voldemort's possesion and saying "If death is nothing, kill the boy"

One thing I loved about the movie was that it wasn't angsty. Harry acted like a pathetic, teen twat in the books and I really hated it. In the movies they seemed to hold out on most of the angst which was a big plus. Did I mention that Luna is hot?
