I forgot to mention how hilarious the completely flippant mention of 'hey I think you accidentally kickstarted Ragnarok by the way' was. Like huh okay, good to know bud.

Edit: Another thing I forgot to mention; throughout the game the event called 'the Desolation' is referenced as the moment when the dead started rising, the environment was fucked and the world generally went tits up. It's made to sound as somewhat recent. As I understood, this is the Norse mythology experiencing the consequences of the destruction of the Greek pantheon as we saw them in GoW 3. Is that just me connecting nonexistent dots?

No. The game goes into that the 'corrupting' of the Valkyrie is causing helheim to overflow, thereby causing the dead to spill out back into Midgard. Theoretically, if you freed them all that should be fixed, but who's to say what affect killing the bridge guardian dude had?

We're not given any concrete evidence of any connection between the deaths of the Greek pantheon and the beginnings of the signs for impending Ragnarok seen in God of War 4.

That said, given that it's all happening about a century ahead of schedule, I would be very surprised if there wasn't a connection there.

    Finished it.

    Holy hell...

How did this Development team create such an epic adventure....and at the end it’s only the freaking prologue?

The next one better come soon! Such a great game, but what a cliffhanger!

I think it's about the right time that GoW2 could be a launch game for PS5. I'd be booking that in now if I was Shawn Layden...

    *sigh*

Took them 5 years to make this one. I...don’t want them to sacrifice quality so take another 5 years.

I should be one year from finishing my Ph.D. By that point...

The spoilercast I linked earlier with the game director, he says he's already mapped out all the games. Shouldn't take as long.

Seeing a lot of speculation that Kratos is Tyr. The theory is that he'll eventually get sent back in time for some reason.

There's deep dives that I haven't gone into yet, but I can't wait for the videos.

    That's....an odd theory.

I can't see it. Tyr was portrayed as this wise figure...I just don't see it. Far more likely for Atreus to be Tyr than Kratos.

I'm firmly of the belief game two ends with Kratos dying and Atreus becoming the new protagonist. He kills the Norse pantheon...and moves to Japan. Where we will one day get a new God of War Trilogy exploring the Japanese pantheon.

Up until the final bit in Jotunheim, I was pretty convinced that Atreus was Tyr as a child, and that he would be sent back in time after the events of Ragnarok, much like Jormungandr. It felt like it was building up to that up until the Loki reveal, and even then it might still happen (even if it's much less likely).

I can't possibly see Kratos being Tyr though, it just doesn't fit thematically at all. Even as chill-dad-Kratos, his default response to basically everything is "how do I murder the fuck out of it?", and that just... isn't compatible with literally anything we learned about Tyr.

I can absolutely buy people worshipping Kratos if he eventually makes it a job of going around to different lands, ridding them of their pantheons and bringing about the age of man. He doesn't need to be Jesus Christ, look at what the gods are doing to people in Greece and Scandinavia...

I think it's a mistake to forever categorise Kratos as a Rage Monster who can't change. That isn't even true in this game, like it was in previous entries, and he grew a lot over the course of the game.

I've been keeping an eye out for the VaatiVidya version of God of War to come out and dive deep on the clues in this game - of which there are confirmed to be there.

The problem there is that Tyr is described as something of a pacifist, or at least that he abhors violence, and as someone that literally everyone, man and god, loves because of his charisma and the fact that he obviously loves them too.

Kratos is many things, but a lover of his fellow man/god he isn't. Kratos wouldn't just have to change, he would have to do a complete 180 on nearly ecstatic aspect of his personality, and then go on to learn how to be charismatic and charming instead of gruff, direct, and grating.

That's actually one of the reasons I thought Atreus was secretly Tyr for so long; Tyr is so diametrically opposed to Kratos in nearly every way, and Kratos clearly wants exactly that for Atreus.

Lol, he addressed that too elsewhere when talking about QA. He was saying loads of people played the game and not one complained about the text size etc.

Is it not fixed yet in one of the many daily patches? I imagine a lot of people don't have that problem, namely ones who play close to the screen, like a PC monitor (how I played) or not too far from a huge screen (how I could also play, lol).

Yeah, the text size issue is unique to certain setups. Specifically, 1080p, low dpi displays. I had to deal with it myself, and while it wasn't unreadable once i got used to it, it woulda been nice if there was a scaling option for it.

It's a symptom of the tech baseline evolving. I had the same issue toward the end of the last console generation, where my tv's display shrank all the text and things because the ui was designed for a higher resolution. It's mostly just a sign to get a new tv, if you intend to play console games regularly, because it's not gonna get any better.

Just saw a clip of a mural on a huge stone that's right there during the first Baldur boss fight, presumably painted by Faye, that spoils the whole game, lol. Awesome.
