Hello. Ellisande: I do have a continuation for Complications. I'm planning to do a short three-chapter case, and then swing into a rather AU version of Proven Guilty. However, I am writing a rather silly number of stories at the same time (no self-control, sadly) so updates will be slow. You're partially right about the plot-bunny, in that I didn't think too far past Corpsetaker taking Harry rather than Luccio. However, I think I can make the body-switch the impetus for a larger change in Harry's character, and so not waste the story after all. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Yeah, but it all depends on what you want to do in the continuation. I mean, if you are going to do an AU version of Complications, you are gonna need to create something other than just his gender being different. It seems rather... contrived otherwise.

And frankly, reading Proven Guilty again with a female protagonist... eh, amusing in places but would probably get quite boring.

I mean, it could definitely be pulled off, just probably gonna be harder rather than easier.

I honestly think that unless you crossover with it, Dresden fanfiction should stick as Jim Butcher style short stories.

There is just far too much going on for anyone other than the original author to be able to write a good novel length story with the material given. Especially with what we don't know.

Brown, welcome to the DLP. Provided your quality stays up, write as much as you can. You won't get many complaints.

    Welcome, Brownish.

LC is right that no one will mind; we're grateful just to have some more reading material.

He actually really might read them, he actively reads and posts on his forum. I think it would be cool to see what his reaction might be to the really quality ones we have here like Shezza, Nuhuh, Jon, Littlechicago and Vash.

Er, I doubt that he would read fanfiction, or admit to it if he did.

I mean, that's a quick way to get yourself accused over plagiarism if there's even the slightest similarity by some dick on the internet.

But more importantly it probably wouldn't be good for him. I mean I try to write sometimes, not very well admittedly, and I just hate it when I see an idea I want to use, I have to stop and think about whether it is plagiarising or if I would have come up with it myself or whether my work is too similar to the other guys.

It's much easier to just write your own work away from everyone else.I mean it's not like he's starving for DF material.

Edit: I just went and read Complications, fucking awesome Brown, keep it going, although I also think you should try to move along with your own storyline instead of writing Proven guilty, except with tits.
Although, I have to say, I can't wait to see how Molly and the Carpenters react to Dresden.

I'm sick and tired of all this ``oh noes! plagiarism!'' nonsense. I'm as against plagiarism as any normal academic/proto-academic, but this has been taken too far.

All creators stand on the shoulders of giants (yes, Moore, I'm talking to you).

I wrote that last line without thinking about it, but I just noticed that it mimics a line from a thread a few days ago. See how that works?

If you end up consciously borrowing, cite it and that is that.

And no, there are not legal problems with this. It's called fair use.

Never said it wasn't, it it'll drive you nuts to be second guessing yourself or trying to make your story different enough, you may overcompensate and kill your story in an effort to make it unique or you may ignore a completely valid idea because it's been done before, making things that much harder on yourself.
