Respectfully disagree. You have a point, there is too much telling, not enough show. Which makes this fic average, but not necessarily badfic. Let's be fair here. At least, the cringe factor, as I like to call it, that would mark it as badfic is missing.

Normally, I'd be right there with you, since female Kyuubi raising Naruto is a blaring signal of badfic, but here the author at least made a good attempt at justifying it, and I thought it also made a decent attempt at making it clear that their relationship is creepy as hell instead of trying for the romance angle the way that sort of badfic usually does.

It reminds me of the majority of Lucillia's fics actually: great idea that is spoiled for lack of "show, don't tell" and can thus never really be called quality fic.

 

Why is the Kyuubi female? Why is it even male? We've seen full body shots of it and I can't remember seeing any genitillia (Unless it was so traumatising that I've repressed the memory).

But, Kyuubi is constantly referred to as a "He" in both the manga and the anime so I'll just take their word for it. What I don't get is the need to genderbend if you aren't going to pair them up together. It's like those people that make Haku female because they don't like the fact that they found a male attractive when they read/watched it for the first time. Most of the time, Naruto won't even be paired up with Haku.

 

I think one of the main reasons the Kyuubi gets written as a female so often (aside from the usual shipping nonsense of course) is because people like the old kitsune fairytales and think it fits in the Narutoverse when it really doesn't. In the beginning, when we had little info about the bijuu, people tended to apply Inuyasha or select bits of Japanese mythology to the Narutoverse to explain them.

Kurama's gender:He's a chakra construct. If you aren't gonna pair him up with anyone, then why does gender even matter? And I think that's your point, right? (Seriously? Proof in the form of a genitalia drawing? Now that would be hilarious. And traumatizing.)

That he gets referred to as he in the manga... well, that may well be a lost in translation thing. Japanese supposedly doesn't have the he/she pronouns as we know it.

 

It doesn't. In fact, there pretty much aren't any pronouns at all in the Japanese alphabet. If memory serves, it has "you" and "<infer from context who is being referred to>" and nothing else.

It's been almost a decade since my high school Japanese classes though, so I could easily be forgetting something.

 

The Kyuubi speaks in a masculine manner (in the raw Japanese) in the canon.

 

If it makes you feel better I prefer The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi. I was really glad when you started updating recently.

Ah well, I guess it just goes to show that I have poor taste in crossovers haha. No harm, no foul.

 

Nah I'm with ya lone raven. The first few chapters aren't even cringeworthy; they're outright bad. Thankfully however I read them years ago when I was just getting into fanfic kinda in line with my Evil!Harry days and I thought they were god's gift to fan fiction.

The middle third isn't really bad but it's not exactly good either, flashes of what it could be but smothered completely with angst and awkward OOC Naruto.

The final third is interesting though, in so many angsty stories the MC just whines and acts like a spineless little bitch with little input into how the story unfolds. In this one he fucks up, and he fucks up bad. The author actually challenges the his inherent sense of superiority that characters who believe they can change the world have, the fact they believe themselves accountable for everything, the fact they want to be beholden to no one. He cheats, he gets his friends killed, but more than anything there's believable character growth and focused self improvement and it's reflected in his actions. He also feels like a far more real character towards the end.

If you genuinely can't see yourself ever reading the fic, I'd recommend just reading the last half of the newest chapter, it shows how far the fic has come.

It's just a shame the good stuff is preceded by 200,000 words of angsty drivel.

The lact of detail in all the fights of Ouroboros irritates me.

 

This was actually in the Worst Summaries thread so I'm just going to tentatively place this here and quietly scurry off.

The story is actually quite good. The name change however is quite annoying. Even then, just download the fic, use the Find and Replace function to change it back to "Peter Parker". I especially love the fact that it's a Naruto Crossover that doesn't star either Naruto or Harry Potter.

I should warn you though, it took around 80K words to get to the end of Wave but hopefully it picks up at the Chunin Exams. And, just to dig myself a bigger hole, the author has started to introduce other Spider-Man villains such Doctor Octopus. This is especially irritating since this is one of the few crossovers I like in which the character is born (Not reincarnated or reborn) into the universe as a normal resident of that universe.

But overall, I would give this a 3.5/5. 4/5 if he sped things up and got rid of the Spider-Man villains.

 

When you say Doc Oc, do you mean Docteru Octerpussu? Or did the author just decide English names are okay for villains?

Would actually think it's kinda cool if Oc was a genius Puppeteer from Suna.

 

Well, he's called Ottō Okuta but he's not a pupeteer. He's basically Doc Oc, metal arms and all.

Question, are there any decent ANBU!Naruto fics besides Hurricane Suite, Synchronicity, and Life in Konoha's ANBU? I'm itching for some good shinobi action.

Oh and are there any fics that come to mind that have a good characterization of Jiraiya and his student/teacher relationship with Naruto or Minato?
