I get a reasonable amount of alerts, but have them automatically sorted to a fanfic updates folder so it doesn't clutter the main inbox.

I guess I don't really maintain my favourites list to be able to use it the way you do. But then, there's some guilty pleasure fics I read that I probably wouldn't want to really put in my favourites list anyway.

 

I have... 164 story alerts at the moment. I have 906 author alerts (mostly because back in the day, "story alerts" didn't exist and author alerts were all you could use).

I don't know, I feel like I wouldn't be able to handle just having a list of 1,000, so getting e-mails is just simpler. If I don't have time to read, I just put the alert in a folder for later and such.

 

Decent. Only 537 story alerts here. Last month, that turned into 55 alerts. A reasonable amount are from the newer stories posting more than one update. Out of those, there were only 8 that I've lost interest in and have no plan of reading.

So it really isn't annoying for me at all with a hit rate like that. I generally look forward to seeing an email notification from FF.net popping up on my phone.

However, I don't worry about cluttering up my email, because I never use emails. I consider them a thing of the past and instead use either social networks or other methods.

The only way I use emails if I'm registering on various websites and they demand it.

Crushed, that it was abandoned, but there is always hope.

It was a guilty pleasure even back then and it didn't age well, but I liked the thought of Orochimaru doing a similar ploy as he did on Kimimaro. I would love to see something like this done right without going over the top.

This story has now reached 415k words after just updating with a really awesome chapter. I'd recommend it to everyone who doesn't hate everything that isn't Naruto-centric.

As I said in that quote, it doesn't have the best start, but once it gets going, it's really awesome.
The villages are quite ruthless and Orochimaru is wonderfully despicable.

 

I finished this in about 2010, so I'm not sure how it holds up. It might be shit. As I'm sure you know, most Sensei!Naruto fics are terrible. Let me know if it's ok.

 

I finally finished Vapors some days ago. I read the first few chapters of the sequel, Clarity, but it was such a terrible twist from the main fic that I dropped it pretty quickly.

I didn't mind the one-sided infatuation there. It was an amusing part of Aiko's character.

I stopped when this was happening at the beginning of Clarity.

I didn't mind that the story wasn't focused on Naruto. He still got to go and do his stuff, albeit largely offscreen. Aiko's story and character is a dark counterpoint to Naruto's.

I couldn't stomach it for exactly the same reasons. It was a rubbish plot twist that

Aiko. I may as well have been reading about a stranger. I think I read the first four chapters, but there was no sign that this was just a bump in the road of the character development and that things were about to get back on track.

It was a decent read until the end. Unfortunate.

 

I got through Chapter 4 before I had to call it quits. The writing is technically sound, the plot is angsty but nothing wrong with that. Naruto's characterization had him being a little stereotypical, but that is the author's choice.

But at the same time there isn't really anything gripping about it. I don't really know any of the backstory except for the kids. Sakura and Tsunade are incredibly condesending, not in a way I would expect from their canon characterizations. Sakura talks about how she "can't forgive" 3 children for manslaughter or killing in self-defense, but at the same time talks about how Shinobi have to be killers for the village. Naruto creates some sort of new God Mode Shadowclone, and gets told by Tsunade and Sakura that hes too incompetent to use it correctly, and that hes ordered to not use it. Not how I'd expect a leader and her apprentice to treat "their best Jounin."

I'd completely forgotten about Sakura and Tsunade in this, and you're absolutely right about that aspect of the story. I think 2.5-3/5 is fair from what I've re-read today. Still, as far as Sensei!Naruto goes, it's not the worst I've ever read.

You're preaching to the fucking choir here. Ask Me No Questions was also amazing, but it's more offshoot than continuation. It's a shame Nugar appears to have vanished from the internet, because I would legitimately pay money to see either of those two tales finished.

 

Been awhile since I read them, going to do so now. I thought I had problems with People Lie towards the end of the fic but can't remember what they were.
