According to google translate "Flight from Death" translates to "vol de la mort"
personally I think instead of calling him Voldemort JK should have just gone with the original translation and called him Lord Voldelamort.

Tom Riddle was the best name he ever had. I know it's Muggle, but 'Riddle' is one of the best surnames in the books, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree. And as Tom Riddle we see him as extremely competent, charismatic, charming, intelligent antagonist. He should have followed the Palpatine/Sidious path and publicly lived as Tom Riddle, while keeping Lord Voldemort persona shrouded in secret. Then he could have become genuinely frightening villain.

George Lucas must have told Rowling she couldn't do it.

She's actually quite fluent in French from all the interviews I've seen of her (and just going by her history) So i'd probably agree that it's sort of a meta thing with Voldemort not being that proficient in French when he made the name, or it's just supposed to be a loose translation with him tinkering with it until he liked the sound of the word.

This is a random as fuck stoned musing that very likely has no possible way to be answered.

What if a weeping angel meets a basilisk's gaze? Once the basilisk turned away, would the angel still be stone?

I mean the quantum lock shit is fundamental, so they should become stone the moment they become observed, but if the basilisk got lucky and the angel was looking at its eyes right when the basilisk looked at the angel, would the angel be fucked? Does the quantum shit happen before the magic of the basilisk petrifies it?

Whatever the writer needs for the story?

If we consider "an image of an angel becomes an angel" as fact, and definine a statue of an angel as being an image, the statue would just become an angel again anyway. So in essence, it doesn't matter if the basilisk petrifies it, because it'd just turn back again.

EDIT: my mistake, Taure. It's been a while. Point still stands, though.

Not sure where you're getting all this stone stuff from. In HP, petrified people are simply frozen.

Nothing to do with the basilisk or petrification. Angels turn to stone when observed.

Fine, let me change it and remove turn to stone to just frozen:

What if a weeping angel meets a basilisk's gaze? Once the basilisk turned away, would the angel still be petrified and unable to move?

Depends on the writer. Just like every other scenario where unstopable force from universe x meets immovable object from universe y.

Basilisk's stare is killer straight on. It only petrifies when it's through a reflection, lens or other reflective/buffering surface (as far as we know) so the angel wouldn't be petrified, but die..non?

Wasn't it stated in "Blink" that you specifically can't kill stone?

The basilisk either gazes at a stone object which it can't kill or it does not gaze at it at all. I don't think there is any response time between the angel being observed and the angel becoming stone.

I guess that a blind basilisk might be able to kill angels, though... (Assuming the gaze still works)

Pretty sure that a blind basilisk can't kill with its gaze, per the second book. The question is (after I was reminded that the basilisk kills with its eyes rather than petrifies, unless there are extenuating circumstances) whether or not the fact that an angel is, immediately, stone while its being observed is a faster reaction than a thing becoming, immediately, dead when it directly meets a basilisk's stare.

Classically? Kills itself. Or at least petrification; that's how most heroes defeat them.

So I'm thinking of trying to write a Pokemon fanfic covering Hoenn, and I just have two questions.

1.) Where did the player come from when he moved into Littleroot Town?
2.) Is his father a new gym leader, or has he been one for several years?

Have these ever been answered through Manga, Anime or anything?
