I've not found a concrete example yet, but in PoA Lupin was absent for at least two days straight in September or October(when Snape taught Defence and Griffindor played against Hufflepuff) due to his condition and he mentions in the Shrieking Shack that something like that happened every month.
Hermoine checked the lunar calendar every time he was away which means his absence was noticeable to a relatively normal student.
By the way, in 1993 full moon appears at the morning (4 a.m.) of 1 September but Lupin was okay at Hogwarts Express.
This brings another question: how long full moon lasts in HP?
In real world, answer varies from mere seconds to 2-4 days depending on the defenition of the full moon, but, as i understand, werewolves react to the full moon as a whole lunar phase.
Also a lunar eclipse may occur on a full moon, but werewolves are still transforming(november 1993) which means that moonlight is not necessary.
I know JKR don't have to think about things like this, but i must know,so here i am.

It was my impression that the transformation only happened on the full moon, but on the days around the full moon the condition is so taxing that you can't really function.

At the 6th June 1994(mess with Peter, Buckbeak and Sirius) Lupin transformed approximately between 21.00 to 23.30 and next day at noon he was just fine while at October he missed two days at least.
Maybe some transformations go easier, but there's no visible reason for it since he forgot to drink the potion.

Yes, I noticed this too. And noticed that the full moon near Halloween was on October 30th, not the 31st. (If memory serves, the first Hogsmeade weekend during Harry's 3rd year was October 31st. Harry caught Snape giving Lupin the Wolfsbane potion, a day too late going by our moon phase schedule) I chalk this inconsistency to Harry Potter being in an alternate universe wherein the moon phases are not aligned with our own. Or maybe JKR didn't think that they needed to align?

Look, Rowling never once checked her moons.

This cannot be emphasized enough if you want to make sense of her timelines, including her non-existing moon calendar.

Since every September 1st is a Sunday six years straight, you can damn well assume that there were no full moons on September 1sts as well.

No instances of Lupin's inability to teach, nor the final transformations fall onto the actual dates of full moon, much less take into consideration the time of the moon rising.

Leave it at that, unlike I did for FFF and save yourself some trouble.

On werewolves changing, there is no evidence to support that the moon has to be visible for the change to occur. It seems like the change only happens once, on the night of the full moon (and we're probabaly talking about the peak full moon, and not the two-three days of seeing the full moon at varying times of day that actually happens) - evidenced by the Lupin's change we actually saw.

Also, if not seeing the moon helped, Lupin wouldn't have changed in the compelety locked down shrieking shack, which had all the windows barred shut. Meaning the moonrise itself was more of a circumstantial happening, rather than a trigger.

Oh, and if you want to ruin Rowling's werewolves ever more, there's a bit on Potermore, about Wolf Kinfolk that makes you go "wuh?".

This is the second time in as many days that this has happened. Good old FF moderators won't do or say shit to help you either. I wish I knew were they lived so I could harass them.

Well that seems a bit extreme. FFnet being down is irritating, but not that much. Unless you've recently found something halfway worth reading that isn't posted somewhere else?

Yes in fact. It's a HP xover with Bleach called Retsu's Folly by Nuhuh. I finally got a few hours these past few days to reread it since it was just updated.

Potions Master is just a title that's held by whoever occupies the Potions teaching post at Hogwarts, right?

Yes. It's a prep school thing, they call all the teachers master.

Yep. It comes from the old English tradition of calling teachers schoolmasters.

    Huh, didn't know that. Thanks.

My mind just got all twisted up with the numerous fics that have tried to expand on this aspect of the HP setting countless times, making it out to be some kind of master degree, as it were, in a particular field.

Yeah, Snape enrolled in Death Eater University right out of high school, dropped out after the girl he was stalking was killed, and ended up teaching the children he'd been hoping to murder and oppress.

    Great guy, though.
