Just thought you all may appreciate this little tidbit sharing the origin of the whole 'witches ride broomsticks' idea. I apologize if any of you already knew, but this blew my poor little mind and I needed to share it with someone.

So basically, these women stuck huge dildos filled with herbs into themselves and earned the description 'riding a broomstick'. Again, I'll never be able to look at Quidditch the same way.

 

I'm pretty sure Quidditch was tainted for me when I read about harry getting gangraped in the Gryffindor changing rooms.

I don't mind though, Quidditch is boring as fuck to read anyway.

What does the book cite as a source, because while I know it's all made up at one point or another, I get skeptical of lore about witches/pirates/etc and if it dates from when they actually prosecuted people for witchcraft in America/Europe or if it came from much later for commercial reasons (selling a book) or just a bullshitter's typical flourish added on to an already heaping pile.

For instance, the Iron Maiden, supposedly a medieval torture device, not invented until the 19th century for show.

I have looked at Wikipedia on brooms/besoms/flying ointment and the sources for this being a drug dildo either come without citation or point back to this book.
