Since we are on the topic of crossovers, what do you guys think ruins a crossover?

I think its the author trying to make the main charecter of both sides of the crossover be the main guy of the story. Like for examle, in a Halo-Harry Potter crossover, they make sure that both the Master chief and Harry get mentioned in the chapter at least a dozen times.

 

Obviously forcing two characters to get together.

 

The author's favorite 'verse being overwelmingly uber. That's one of my pet peeves.
A less fierce irritation is to have no reason for the cross. Even falling through a magic portal is better than having the entire Cascade Major Crimes department walking through the Stargate, off to make first contact. (That actually happened once!)

 

There are good writers of crossovers. Have you forgotten Shezza, or Nuhuh? Hm...?

 

I think only one person said that. at least in this thread, if I said that then I must have been having one of those 'retard' moments.

 

Sure. I LOVE crossovers, when done well. For that matter, I'll read crossovers that are only good in a few aspects. But we're talking about peeves and failures at the moment.

Quite possibly what would make a cross over is Harry Potter Kiddy Grade, with a Dark Harry as the Leader of the Earth Born, but what I really want to see is a pure Warhammer Harry Potter cross damnit.
Um any way Death in Glory looks good, of course it needs to of course to progress further judgement.
And though it is Naruto, Till Eternity's End is excellent.

 

I think the Doctor Who/Harry Potter crossover ideas still have some merit. I think it just got stuck to much on Harry traveling around with the Doctor. I wouldn't mind seeing the Doctor as the "bad guy" in a story. Say Torchwood (pre-Jack) detects one of Harry's many accidental magics. They bring him in, study him, and decide to train him up as one of their members. Insert some plot device that Torchwood cooks up, throw in the Doctor trying to stop it all, and you might have a decent story.

I just think that we were thinking to along the lines of making Harry one of the Doctors companions, when there are many other plot devices that are usable. Especially with the Chameleon Arch. Hell, Harry himself could be the Master, though the author would have to come up with a good reason why.

I don't think I've ever seen a HP/Heralds of Valdemar crossover fic.

 

No, although that'd be cool.

One of the Companions (could even be Rolan) kidnapping Harry after he attempts to take the 'horse' to Hagrid's hut, then crossing between worlds because Harry is needed.

Harry would be pissed and refuse to do anything, maybe make friends with Alberan who tells him how he reasons it, Harry realises what a berk he's been and helps with the Gifted.

I think Hagrid would like Companions - he likes all dangerous creatures - but I don't think he'd be enamored of them. Companions don't have venomous bites or breathe flame, after all.
