Recently, my desktop is experiencing some rather bizarre problem... My screen will blackout at random. When I reboot my system, it will run the full sequence till the log screen. After I log in, it would only show a black screen with my cursor hanging there. Anyone can help me with this? After which, my shut down becomes extremely slow and the logging into my Windows slowed down to a ridiculous speed.

    My specs are as follows:
    2 X 580 GTX 1 GB
    i7 975 Processer
    6 GB DDR3 ram
    Gigabyte 58XA-UP7

Some questions - did you check for viruses? Any new software installed before your problems started? From hardware side - check for overheating.

My HP pavillion was doing the exact same thing a few months ago. I had to buy a new laptop. Luckily, the backup of my files was fine.

For a desktop... I couldn't say for sure, but you're likely looking at a hardware problem.

Sounds a little similar to what happened shortly before my hard drive failed. But I don't know for sure.

I did a full system scan for virus. Nothing was found. I'm running on liquid cooling for my GPU so I am not sure about the overheating part...

Well, if it isn't a Windows problem, you will have to check some thing. First the HDD. So, get yourself the diagnostic tool from the manufacturer of your HDD. If that turns out ok, then get yourself MemTest to check your RAM.

You could also build your HDD into another computer and look if the same happens. If yes, then you know that it's your Windows or HDD, and if no, then you know it's your hardware.

Boot from a Linux DVD and use it for a day. If you still have problems, then you know it's hardware.

Thanks for the advice. Apparently it is the fault of the latest Nvidia driver. After I uninstalled the driver and revert back to the older version, everything works like a charm. Seems like the latest driver isn't compatible with SLI.
