...you know. I for one personally don't hate all the shit on FFN. There are a lot of people who enjoy a lot of the shit there, I know that I used to like a lot of stuff that I now consider to be absolutely crap. If people enjoy it, what harm is in it's existence?

You want a way to filter all the crap? That's what DLP is for. I haven't searched FFN for something to read in god knows how long. There are always people desperate enough to do it for me.

If this happened wouldn't the DLP C2 vanish as well?

Yeah but the authors in the DLP C2 are bros. They'd upload their stuff soon enough.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that the universal 'crap to quality ratio' of fanfiction in general is 99:1

Even if you blow up the 'mothership' of crap, that ratio will still quickly re-establish itself. The only way you're going to stop crappy authors from writing and sharing their crap is to get rid of the internet altogether.

I'd be quite pissed off about this actually. I have a couple of stories on my favourites list that I would simply not remember to search, despite it's quality. And not to mention the fact that I'd have to re-establish my alert list.

There are thousands of stories of FF.net. We here at DLP care for about 300 of them. Doing this would result in the removal of quite a few of them from FF.net without possibility of the authors reuploading the stories at all. Besides, of anyone at DLP now, who regularly tries to find something brilliant to read there? I can't imagine too many people here who try and heave there way through all the slash and Harry/Ginny at that site when they could just as easily come here or to Patronus Charm in order to find good stories.

I'm the type of person who hates losing any data, whether it's something I like, or not. I never delete anything. So on principle I'd hate this.

As people have said, there are a lot of guilty pleasure fics that are not on DLP I like. As well as many fics that were quite decent, but very cliche that most of us have grown out of (but are still good for new readers). Let's not forget that DLP ignores a large amount of non-HP fandom as well.

I'd actually argue if the site was deleted and rebirthed, we'd get just as many fics that are crappy by our standards being posted up, while many of the older classics we love may not. I'm sure any author who's written above 60,000 words will have backed up there stuff and repost it anyway. The only thing this will take out is the fics that never got past 2 chapters.
