Think it's generally minus 3 - 5lp per lobby left with increasing time bans from queueing and yes, counts for a loss during promo series. On the one hand, far fewer people leave the lobby and make an effort even when someone tries to troll. On the other, more people seem to troll after a bad game/not getting mid & feeding to get someone else to leave.

I don't think that's accurate. I got a loss, yes, but I'm definitely still in the promo series.

Thanks for the answer BsuperB. I was wondering why it stuck me with a 30 minute wait time.

    UPDATE:

Won my other two promo matches and got promoted to silver III! In the end, that mess-up didn't matter :D

Hey guys, which support champions would be the three or four strongest (Thresh not included, because he'll get banned or picked by the opponents a lot) for blue and purple side respectively? Dinged 30 yesterday, want to "main" support, don't know which champs I should buy/learn for future ranked play. I've been playing Lulu almost exclusively for the last couple of games, also have Sona and Alistar :)

At the moment I think the three best all round supports are Thresh, Sona and Janna. But it really just depends on your playstyle. If you want top be aggressive and make plays then go for Leona, Ali, Blitz, Thresh or maybe Taric or Zyra. If you just want to keep your carry alive then Lulu, Sona, Janna or Nami are your best bets.

Then there are the less conventional picks like Fiddles, Kayle, Morg, etc... In my opinion you should just try as many as you can and find the ones that match your style of play. Then try to get at least one support who you can pick against each different lane match ups.

Or, play Lux and kill shit.

Lulu, Thresh, and Taric are your best choices of go-to supports. Their lanes are just faceroll as long as your carry isn't too stupid. Ridiculous utility/peeling or just very good decoys in general.

    Totally a play style thing.

If you're aggressive? Leona, Blitzcrank, Taric, Zyra.
    Defensive? Janna, Soraka
    Hybrids/Situational - Sona, Lulu, Zyra.

Loads of supports fit into different 'roles', it's all down to how you play and usually how your adc plays. I tend to tell people I play fairly aggressive early if we get the advantage and make sure to ping if I plan on making a move. Of course, this can also be my downfall due to my choice of supports (mostly Leona/Sona/Lulu) as the latter 2 are fairly squishy and easily caught whilst Leona can do diddily squat when behind in lane with no harrass short of going balls deep and capitalising on a mistake.

As Evan said, there's a few who're pretty simple provided you can avoid getting caught (expect a Blitz if you pick a squishy first & it's open) and your carry isn't semi-braindead (good luck).

    +1

Make sure your adc is ok with aggressive play, of course.

Actually, if you're a fan of the kill everyone approach to support you could try Le Blanc or Elise as well.

So if you don't play ranked for a month, you get marked as inactive. And then you start to lose LP. If you're inactive with 0 LP, you get demoted to the previous division. If you're inactive with 0 LP in Division V, you get demoted to the previous tier.

I completely forgot that this happened. But hey, one quick game and I regained the points I lost through inactivity. Played top as Shen vs a Tryndamere with a full crit runepage. It was cute watching the minion aggro melt his healthbar while he tried to break through Feint's shield with his mighty crits.

Elise support is the way forward! ... Well, like Morgana and Lux I like them on paper but would probably suck giant ass at it. On the to try list though.

Played 2 games in the past 5 days, squeezing a game or 2 in tomorrow. Got flattened as Lulu, you know you're gonna have a bad time when your support has the least deaths on your team & then had to drag a bunch of flaming nutjobs to victory as Sona. One too many TF's thinking he's xPeke 2.0 and well, not being close. Thank god for late-game Nasus being a one-man wrecking crew when they can't kite.

Well my six game winning streak ended with my last promo match. I've now lost six games in a row. Two of them were my fault, three of them were clear wins until my teammates and in the last one we were all completely outplayed. I'm making a promise to myself not to play tomorrow. I need one day to cool off.

I think I've tried so many different supports at this point. With the group I play with, nobody is particularly confident in the role or just plain doesn't want the role.

Therefore, I have indeed tried support Lux, Morg, and Elise. Out of them, Morg is the better support simply because of her utility (Black Shield, Binding, and her ult). Elise can be a lot of fun, but you have to be spot on with her stun. Very aggressive playstyle and you can "secure" kills in lane.

In addition, I've tried quite a few, shall we say, odd supports.

Darius being the first one. He is definitely a troll pick, but with a pull and slow, he does bring some utility to the lane and some good harass (Unless the enemy support is fucking Soraka, fuck Soraka). His ult can be used depending on the situation. If you want to be a good support, ult slightly early leaving a little health and your ADC finishes the champ off. If you or your ADC got caught out, ult to kill and give no fucks what anybody says.

I've also tried support Viktor to a great degree of success. Nobody ever sees him, so his burst is unexpected (Wut, Viktor does damage?!?!) and not many people know his kit. The most synergistic laning partner is absolutely Cait. If somebody steps on a trap, throw your stun field and catch them and blow your load all over their face with Cait auto attacking the whole time with maybe a Q thrown in. He can be a lot of fun in the support role, but is certainly niche.

I've played all kinds of champs in the support role. The biggest disagreement players have, is what constitutes a support? Frankly, the kit plays a huge role, generally you want an engage of some sort, a shield of some sort, a heal/mana buff, or CC of some sort.

However, any champ can fit this role as long as you just support your laning partner. This means that you ward often and well, feed kills to the ADC, and sacrifice yourself if it means the ADC survives or you secure an objective.

Mostly, picking champs to support with comes straight down to your play style. If you suck at being aggressive, please, please, don't play my Chain Warden or Sexy Valkyrie, even though people say they're extremely powerful and/or good right now.

Just find what you like, and practice often with them, and learn to ward.

Oh, and did I mention warding properly?

Leblanc is #1 support. True story. I support by killing the shit out of the opposing bottom lane early.

I saw a LeBlanc support the other day, which is weird as I first picked Sona, blind on blue side (bored of Leona/Lulu) and, well, we went 6/0 against them as Trist/Sona vs Varus/LeBlanc.

I imagine the LeBlanc just wasn't very good, she landed her chain twice at max range but I just walked away and she only really tried to burst one of us when we engaged on them. They tried to tower dive me at 6 when Trist was away and I earned a double kill for our Monkey who tp'd in.

It hurt don't get me wrong, I didn't pay attention at one point and suddenly I had half my health when all she had was a kage's for ap, and she did nearly kill Trist in a couple of engages where I think I played it badly (exhausting a 0/3 Varus? Really me?) but we stomped them and more than made up for Monkey getting trashed by Zac.

    New Smurf for Ranked

2 ranked wins down duoing with Prom who entered his series after the first win due to getting 24lp.

Win the next one.. barely due to an Amumu who insisted on never being with the team.

Win, and Prom goes NO I'M SCARED.

Haha, no but seriously that Amu was god awful. o_o

I can't play ranked anymore. I had a great start but low I've won one game in the last fifteen. Went straight through a demotion and I'm stopping now before I get a second. Time to play normals and watch streams I guess.

    Ouch.

Ranked is a harsh mistress. Some days you'll get stomped as a team, some days you'll stomp people as a team, and the other days a mixture of people carrying/getting rolled/negative allies emerge.

Recognising the need for more practise is always a good thing, I just tend to play an aram or 2 if I lose 2 games in a row to avoid a potential rough queue and to calm down a little otherwise I know I'll play worse - though by no means am I perfect given how I vent here fairly often. Some days it just sucks to have a bad streak of play or someone who can't quit trading after falling behind.

    Best of luck!

Edit; Should also be noted I tend to focus on blaming my team (like the majority of people, really bad habit) rather than reflecting on what I coulda done better - problem of course is as a support, there's not much else I can do at a Silver level where it's still about not throwing hard and having people buy wards and watch that minimap. Little things though, like timing wards, summoners etc, always need to improve that regardless.

I'd say try & use LoLreplay but, it differs from person to person.

I wish I could use lolreplay but its not out for Mac yet...

I deleted my windows partition about a year ago, but it might be worth putting Windows back on my computer to use LoLreplay. I've heard its very helpful.

I'm also making a resolution to buy a good mouse. I know my problems can't all be blamed on playing on a trackpad, but it might help.

You... You use a trackpad? I don't even want to imagine how that works.

As a support, I couldn't land my pulls as Thresh or Blitz, or my dash as Leona. Taric is just point and click, so not too bad. Also, warding can be an issue. I tried using my trackpad for a time while waiting for my new mouse, and I can't tell you how many times I fucked up ward placement. Especially when you land one out of a bush.

With sub-par performance like that, it's kind of difficult to convince your team that you do actually know what you are doing. And in ranked, you have to maintain good synergy or you can be screwed.

Believe me, even tiny, silly mistakes can cause your team to rage for no logical reason. Enough of my rant though. If you really think LoLReplay will help you improve, then I would consider throwing your Mac away putting the Windows partition back on. The biggest thing is practice, practice, practice.
