Nope, don't see that need to. Though all fem!Blaises, Traceys and Daphnes in fandom are written out like clones. They all have more or less the same characteristics and are interchangeable.

 

I thought this was a discussion of desirable rare pairings, not morbidly disgusting pairings that just happen to be rare. >_<

Do Crossover pairings count in this post?

There are a few fics that I remember, I read them some time ago, featuring pairings such as Harry/Dawn Summers, Harry/Kitty Pryde, Harry/River Tam (this one from nonjon's 'Browncoat, Green Eyes').

I'm searching for the fics with those ships but aside from nonjon's, I can't find them, and I can't recall if they were as good as I thought they were when I first read them...

 

There is one character that is fairly developed in canon comparing to the rest, would seem like an ideal pairing for Harry but is rarely ever shipped in good quality, novel-length fics.

I am, of course, talking about Fleur Delacour.

There is The Secret Diary of Fleur Delacour aged 16 3/4, which I used to enjoy just for the Harry/Fleur. Sadly, the sequel I did not like, and even looking back at the original fic it could have been much improved. Still it was a story that got my attention.

Has anyone here read a good, novel-length Harry/Fleur?

 

Well, if you can stand the kind of stories he writes, Jeconais has a few decent reads (two, I think) with that pairing, although both are one-shots. While not as rare as others, it's true that there isn't much readable material with that ship.

Then you have mrriddler's 'Secret of the Male Veela' which is Novel-Length, but unfinished (on hiatus), featuring Harry/Fleur as the main pairing, but again, it's more Harry/Multi than anything else.

 

There is no such thing as a good Harry/Fleur fic. Not yet anyway.

Bioplague's one has potential I think, but it's too early to tell.

 

Good point. I've never read a Harry/Fleur that was really really good.

Her character seems to be far too goddess/sex kitten so that any real attempt to delve into her character falls flat on its face. It's why so many folks didn't think Fleur was hot enough in the films - attractive enough to play other characters sure - but not a veela sex bomb.

That being said - there are also a number of awful cliches harry/fleur writers use - not least of which are the overuse of the accent and the angsty 'no man really loves me' (see also: Honks). These tend to put me off even if the concepts behind it are decent.

Jeconais has a pretty decent short Harry/Fleur friendship story - bonus points for Weasley bashing.

 

What about a decent length Harry/Pansy.

 

I still want to see a Harry/Fat Lady story. Come on Winky is nothing, gogo painting!

There's phoenixking's Harry Potter and the Litany of Blood, for Harry/Fleur, which is in the Dark Arts section. The writing itself is very good, it has length to it, but Fleur's kind of a bitch... The background the author gives makes the story though, not the pairing.

I had the idea for the rarest pairing ever, het, slash, and everything in between included: Harry/Completely Headless Nick's freaking trachea.

 

LoB is very well-written, but I consider it to be a Harry/Multi. I know the author has stated Harry will choose between Fleur and Blaise (female, mind you) ultimately, but it's still Harry/Multi for now. Plus, I dislike how Fleur is written too, and am actually rooting for this fic to end as Harry/Blaise.

And the fic is written by jon3776, not ThePhoenixKing, whom I think is the author of "HP and the Fury of the Elements", a Harry/Cho fic.

That said, I agree that Jeconais' "Best Man", which is a Harry/Fleur friendship fic was quite the refreshing read, and provided me some lulz.

Still, my point stands: There are no really good Harry/Fleur fics.

You are forgetting Jbern's The Lie I Have Lived. I'm pretty sure Jbern can write an excellent Harry/Fleur. As soon as he decides to update it

 

Out of curiosity can anyone name more than two or three really good Harry/Luna fics? I can think of several that use the pairing, but like Honks I'm Having a hard time coming up with more than one or two that I would qualify as re-readable.

 

Have you had a look at Tehan's "Contemplating Clouds"? Its probably the only H/L that I've really enjoyed reading.

I knew I forgot something! "The Lie I've Lived" is probably the one fic that I'm most eagerly anticipating an update for (Heard that, jbern? ). I'm also pretty sure he will be able to pull off the H/F pairing. Now, if only he would give us our updates...

 

How about Harry/Minerva pairing where harry goes back in time or even stranger Harry/Marge. I haven't seen a Harry/Madam Hooch either.
