Did no one clock on to Demons In The Night double posting, with 2 minutes between each post?

Looks like you got a long way to go before you stop being a n00b.

To try and get back to the topic, isn't Necroposting fucking annoying?

Not if it adds to the discussion, otherwise, yes.

Huh ... and here I was, thinking misspelling something was a spelling error, as opposed to a grammatical error... silly me.

If by alternative, you mean gay, then yes.

    Darius is showing his age.

On the topic: There are acceptable ways of necroposting. And there are other.

I remember when I necro posted. And when I never gave an Introduction. And when I entered IRC and pissed Vash off first thing.

And look how awesomely full of win I turned out! :D

But seriously, people aren't necessarily retarded because they necro-posted. Just inform them in such a way that gets the point across (be that reaming them out, or be that politely advising them against necro-posting) and if they keep fucking up...

I was thinking how cool it would be if someday someone necro'd this thread. I must be weird cause I think that would be kinda funny.

Problem is that people probably don't read the sticky threads for the rules or people don't know what necro posting is. When I joined I didn't know what necro posting was so I just looked around the board until I realized what it was XD I's so smarts. (Though, looking back at it I feel dumb. I should have known...Necro...dead...posting....revive dead thread)

(To Lincos) Damn you for beating me to the double-post. Anyway, I hate necro-poting, and like Syaoran said they should read the rules or ban them. Manatheron also makes a valid point, maybe it has become "too nice", but that's not just my opinion. :)

Can't believe I missed this the first time around.

Please, tell me, when did mention his post count? When did I mention mine?

Oh wait, I didn't. So here you are going off on a righteous little rant about something that didn't even happen. You must feel terribly foolish :(.

@World: Care to explain how? That's fucking lame by the way~

Things like these ebb and flow on DLP, like anywhere else I suppose. The vets post a lot sometimes, or watch from the lofty tower of IRC, because really sometimes you just can't be fucked. Totally understandable.

One thing that has come out of it is a slew of new members who are posting more. But a vet comes along every now and then to curb newbie practices. I'd say not to worry about it, this 'nicer approach' period has followed an "apeshit newbie rape (mostly deserved) period" which itself followed a "Posting apathy period."

Now what is really weird for me is to see some new members who have close to 300 posts and I have no idea who they are.

And yeah necro is annoying, rarely though there is a useful necro.

DLP is cyclical. Expansion, contraction, a period of peace. Repeat.

We are currently in the middle of expansion. Later on, during the period of contraction, I fully expect this night demon fellow to be repeatedly contracted right in the face.

I think the best way to prevent necro-posting is to have one of those "I Agree" messages that states that "I agree not to necro-post (bumping months-old posts) unless my post is something that can evoke meaningful discussion" in huge letters.

That would probably be the most efficient way of letting a n00b know that necro-posting is not welcomed here. And if they STILL don't heed the message, then they really deserved to be banned/taken to an eye-doctor.

Cuz, personally, I'm sick of looking at threads that have been bumped, getting excited thinking that maybe, just maybe, that story was updated, and being completely disappointed.

I like your idea, Violent Seas, but I think if we were to do that, we'd want to make sure that the "I agree" message isn't more than a line or two long - On some sites, the things take up a whole page, and then nobody will bother to read them, and our problem would continue.

But, before doing something that drastic, do we have necroposting defined in an announcement or stickied post? I know that Raven explicitly forbade it in the forum rules, but I'm all for making it easy for people to be less annoying, and possibly defining it in that same announcement would help.

If they're adding something worthwhile, it's always been okay. Bumping just to bump, 1st time = warning, repeated offenses = bye bye.

My problem is that I can't *ever* make the search function work well. I actually have a thread topic that I've been working on for days - "Thoughts on OOC-ness" - with the point that the closer Harry is to canon, the less DLP'ers would like him. I haven't found the same topic already posted, but I'm *really* hesitant to try this one. It seems to be *asking* to get flamed, or even warned, if I'm unintentionally repeating a closed topic.
