Any Ravenclaw!Harry recommendations? Also, I'd appreciate any Hufflepuff!Harry that didn't involve Harry wanting to be in that House just to be underestimated. Thanks in advance.

Most people, when writing a Ravenclaw!Harry, usually make him a male version of Hermione; dedication to books/smarts, etc, whilst still somehow following canon events. They may also make him some sort of genius as an excuse/cause, usually in 'Wrong Boy-Who-Lived' stories with Neville/siblings.

It's like people don't even try to give him -as a character- some actual depth, relying on 'house stereotypes', much like the whole Manipulative!Dumbledore plague that's afflicted the fandom recently.

I personally could see a Ravenclaw!Harry thinking things through before hand (like him using the mirror to try and contact Sirius first in OotP instead of him going the canon 'brainless Gryffindor' route) before...well, doing something 'brave'/stupid, like his canon counterpart. I'd also expect to see him be a bit ambitious/cunning with his goal and aims - especially if Harry is driven/determined.

TL;DR; I'm also interested in knowing a decent Ravenclaw!Harry story, especially if he's well rounded as a character, and doesn't fit into the 'house stereotype' trap that most authors fall into.

I actually like that angle in principle, if you disregard that none of the authors who write the usual neglected-sibling Harry have actually any idea about how paternal affection works. The reasoning that Harry used books to escape his sad life makes some sort of sense at least.

Problem is that none of the authors who did this ever reached the barely-readable stage if I remember correctly. Harry is either casting spells as a five year old, capable of wandless magic or sworn to revenge. Screw that.

As for recommendations, I liked Rustlings in the Dark by Neisseria. Harry is still a Gryffindor and the story itself is focused on the early stages of the Harry/Padma relationship, but otherwise he's pretty involved with the Ravenclaws in his year and Padma herself is a good influence on him. Pretty nice school-fic.

Aaltwal's The Theif of Hogwarts comes immediately to mind; it was one of the first that I had read in the HP fandom. It does fall to a few cliches and is unfinished, but overall, I thought it was pretty funny.

Harry Potter and the Legacy of Strength by Dreyden which can be found here is a somewhat new fic I've been following, in which Harry was raised by Remus. The fic is still on second year(with around 60k words) and is somewhat enjoyable.
