While you are correct in that Crossovers are Alternatives, it is still far more convenient to keep them as seprate classificationsl. As was preverously stated, often you're looking for either an ALternative or a Crossover, not both. They need to be seprate simply to make brousing less stressful. Purhaps createing a subgenre within Alternatives would work, but would it not be easier to simply have to classifictions?

 

For starters, English, mate. There's a nice handy spell-check option down below.

For seconders, they would be separate 'classificationsl.' Subgenres under any proposed reorganization of forums, would, as I've understood it from this thread, receive a sub-forum. Perhaps I'm just a grumpy old grinch who doesn't happen to like crossovers, but they're really not a large enough genre to warrant their own section.

 

The only problem with this that I can see is that, with fewer catagories, the number of each fic in each catagory would be much higher, and each section within the library would get pretty crowded.

It's already pretty hard to trawl through the library to find fics you like, so great is the diversity of stories there. If anything I would say we need more sub-catagories to act as filters, not less.

For example, perhaps within romance create a subforum for each ship.

Or within the corssover section a subforum to split them up by fandoms.

Etc.

Just some ideas.

 

I think they intend to cut the crap out of the library. All the fics that are in there with our 4 or 5 star ratings will be moved to the trash bin or asked for people to vote on them. That will reduce the size of the sections a lot.

 

Not to worry. I missed that one too.

 

About stories without rating...

Maybe Raven could make a simple script that puts a new unrated story for voting each day - like that annoying message when you're not logged in. Give it a month or two and all stories in the Library will be rated.

 

On that note, why not make the theoretical "Darkfic" category a main category and have Noir as a sub-category within it?

 

Yeah, Darkfic is an old term, but fits well in what "Noir" is supposed to contain.

Uh there are stories with 3/4 stars in the bin, and in the recent unpleasentness of Dlp fanfic Awards we learned that voting solves nothng just creates more problems

I say Noir. But have a section for Azkaban fics that arent about Harry being imprisoned there such as Shezza's fic.

Romance would probably benefit from having sub-sections for each ship. Make a Harry/Ginny section just for Potter Tradition of Red by Sree.


But these Ideas are just for if its changed. Personally except for all crap fics that were put in before the ratings, I like the way it is now.

 

IMO, the only subsections the library needs are for NC17 stories of each genre.

 

Yeah, keeps with the categorization. Single NC17 section would quickly turn into one big mess (as it had).

The only problem - few sections will most likely be empty or only have only a story or two... *shrugs*

 

You know I used to be against nc17 fics in the library, but now I'd say anyone here is obviously old enough to see them normally in circulation. I still hold the opinion that ones that are just pure smut don't belong here. But let the ones with sex scenes be included in normal rotation
