    Title: Retaliate
    Author: prone2dementia
    Rating: M
    Genre: Horror/Angst
DLP Category: Dark Arts or Independent Harry
    Pairing: None
    Status: Oneshot
Summary: The last straw had been small, but it had resulted in the gruesome murder of the Dursley family by one Harry James Potter... Dark oneshot with sequel. A pre-hogwarts fic, 4,037 words total.
    Link: FFN

I liked this story a lot. It was well written, and very "to the point"- there was no real wandering thoughts in there. The characterization was realistic, and the only real difference was giving Harry a backbone and some maliciousness. As a side note, I would not recommend the sequel. I give it one point for personal preference, one for characterization, another for the plot, and one last for the execution. 4/5.

It was a pretty fun read, I especially like the face-painting, well facecarving really. I'd give it a 4/5 for brutality and characterization, though it's a shame Dudley's moment of fun was so short.

Ehhh, I got nothing from it.

Fannon super abused Harry kills his relatives. It wasn't even done in any lulzy way like last kill-offs have been. 1/5.

The sequel is just as bad as well. Super!Evil!Harry and Retarded!Adults make bad things happen.

    ^This.

Not my cup of tea really. I suppose it was well done, but not the type of thing I'm into. I wouldn't put it in the library but...

    -shrugs-

Up to you guys. I don't recommend it unless you get your kicks off on reading about mutilation, there's really nothing else to it.

    2/5

Actually, the sequel is much better. Harry is absurdly overpowered and way too intelligent (and almost omniscient), but it's short and very pleasant to read.

2/5 for the one-shot. 3.5/5 for the sequel.

I love how this stuff comes from the 13 year old girl.

    Aaah DLP.

It's not bad, I'll give the whole thing - oneshot and sequel - a solid 3/5 and a place in the recycling bin. Maybe when the author stops using so many cliches, I'd think about upping my vote to a 4 out of 5.

Writing's decent, but not enough to stand out - especially in this over-abused genre.

    Okay...lots to review here.

Super abused Harry kills Dursleys. While fanon, -.5 points. Seriously a few chores is not abuse. I would say that the cupboard and the being called a freak are abuse--but we have no canon evidence of worse.

Being a pre-1st year fic, these are usually bad cause the authors rarely capture a 10 year old. Harry seems too mature and too sadistic to be 10 so -2.5 points.

That being said he creatively tortures the Dursleys, who I dispise so +1 point.

Over all I give it a 3/5 but mostly because Its a guilty pleasure of mine.

The sequil though is actually a 3/5 on its own merits.

I've actually been studiously avoiding abused Harry fics, so this was a nice read.

A cheerfully deranged, sick little story.

    4/5.

I actually quite liked this, sure it was cliched, but also done in a slightly original way. I haven't read stories where Harry kills everyone before he goes to Hogwarts. 4/5
I think I'll give the sequel a try.

Actually I enjoyed this... but really only because I always believed that if I wanted to destroy someone then force them to eat their own flesh... ah good times, good times.... anyways the sequel I wouldn't recommend for the library simply because of how absolutely retarded Dumbledore is.

As for the rating I'll give it a 3/5(stupid 5/5 rating system not giving me enough room...) Because the author actually did something I've wanted to see for ages, but not any higher because it honestly doesn't deserve any higher.

As others above I think the sequel is way better than this one. Torturing the Dursleys isn't unique, though the scene is somehow original. But it doesn't flow.

Luckily this fic isn't required to understand the sequel. I suggest a reader giving the author a try should skip this and start with that one.

The sequel has Dumbledore et alii retreaving Harry, so that he can enter Hogwarts. It's written in third person, switching the pov among the people surrounding Harry. Thus the author manages to create a unique atmosphere.

There are better fics, but compared with this oneshot it's great.

So I rate this one 2.5/5 and the sequel 3.5/5.

Things that made my skin crawl:

Silence would've been better, more intimidating.

This is not how Vernon would react to the situation. It would be more along the lines of "What the fuck do you think you're doing".

It just reminds you that this isn't Harry talking, it's the author. A child wouldn't use the word "abused", as it smacks of outside observation.

I wasn't reading a story about Harry, I was reading about a pissed off fanboy.

If holding true to your genre, in this case torture porn, was enough I'd give it 5/5. As a Harry Potter fic, 1/5.
