That's funny, I was thinking of an integration project.

Technically, you'd just have to rearrange some flags and revalue somethings, as well as make events for the transition between regions, etc.

But there's also the problem with the pokedex, etc, etc.

Maybe if Matt's interested, we can spend a pair of afternoons on it and integrate it or something?

Then again, the stories would be completely not connected and shit, so it'd be really unfun, etc.

I don't know. I have an idea I'll probably post at some point, but it's far more ambitious than just a merger.

Wouldn't the pokedex also just require rearranging flags? I've never tried to mod GBA/DS games before, so I'm not sure what's up with it or how hard it'd be.

For the stats/attacks/other stuff, can't it just have everything redirect to the BW files?

For story integration, I don't think it'd be that hard. Make it so that the BW or HGSS protagonist was the parent of the next region's or something.

Say HGSS is the first region. Add a new NPC sort of generic "Partner" NPC in Newbark town that becomes your wife/husband. You then get a chance to choose your kid's "inheritance", gender, and name.

The inheritance would basically be 6 pokemon passed down as lvl 5s at their base forms with their current move pools, your original trainer ID, and improved IV stats because they're "bred" pokemon you give your kid to start their journey.

Or it could just be that the kid inherits all of your current pokemon. Wasn't there an anime episode or something where it showed pokemon kept inside their balls were effectively in stasis?

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean (for the pokedex, etc)

Yeah, but you basically have to append it onto the HG/SS etc.

    Perfect IV stats, plz. D8

I thought about doing it with GBA roms but I think I read somewhere that it isn't possible because the size of a GBA ROM is fixed and what we do while ROM hacking is make use of free space left in various different places. But that free space isn't enough to integrate an entire game into another game.

I think this was almost 3-4 years ago so I might be wrong. Also even if this is true it might not be the same for NDS roms.

    Can anyone confirm?

Free Space Finder finds around double or more in terms of space, all of the time.

    Otherwise, we'd probably use RMXP.

I don't know anything about NDS hacking.

Even if you have enough space, I doubt you can simple integrate the two games together. Each ROM might be using the same address for two different things. So if you assign one of them a seperate address, you will have to update all other things that were pointing to it to its new address, right?

NDS Roms can go up to 128mb free space. Pokemon games on NDS are about 32mb.

EDIT: Never mind. It was conversion to 256 size, not 128. Not sure if there are any roms at 512.

Is there any hack out there that allows me to evolve certain pokes without trading them? I wants my Alakazam and such.

Personally, I've always Loved that bridge in Cerulean in Gen 1 games. I'd like to see a hack where, when at the end of that bridge and the guy asks you to join Team Rocket, you can actually say yes.

^^ There is a hack in which you play as a Team Rocket cadet, it is called Toxic Purple.

I never got down to playing it, but you can try if you want.

Drome (or Ash?) told me that Toxic Purple was great. Idr who played it, but they also said that it's never being updated, unfortunately, and that it's incomplete.

Would it be possible to mod a Nuzlocke function into a game? Basically have all the rules actually enforced by the ROM. Fainted Pokemon are automatically released, you can only catch the first pokemon in a route, etc. Meh, it does actually sound pretty difficult to do.

Nah, you just append the script onto the fainting bit, and change it to "has been killed" rather than "has fainted".

Would be quite as traumatizing as you hope, I think ;3

I am no expert but can we append scripts that are executed when a Pokemon faints in ROMs?

It should definately be possible in RMXP though.

Yeah. I mean, the fainting is a script on itself - it calls several variables to execute certain actions and changes conditions to fainted, etc.

You just have to call another event script - the same way some battles can trigger certain actions, all faints will be able to trigger deaths.

An easier way to do it would be to release all fainted pokes at the end of the battle and remove all the revives/max revives in the game.

Then I guess it can work.

The only catch first Pokemon can be done using flags, but a unique flag will be needed for each separate area.

When they dire from a fire attack have them go up in ash. Ground attack they get swallowed up from the earth and so on.

    That would be traumatising. ;.;

Wouldn't you also have to remove that script that occasionally has pokemon return to you? Like that Zeitgeist of yours, IIRC.
